Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome back to Kowala Moon, a podcast of
00:00:14
Speaker 1: original children's bedtime stories and meditations designed to make bedtime
00:00:20
Speaker 1: a dream, good evening, and welcome to the Coco Club.
00:00:24
Speaker 1: Eva and Eliza Kyler from Lincoln, New Zealand, Maya from Sydney,
00:00:31
Speaker 1: Stelen Nolan, Ettie from London, ket Zollie and Omzu. Guys,
00:00:37
Speaker 1: you should see Coco. He's over there, sprinting around and
00:00:42
Speaker 1: celebrating like he's just scored a World Cup winning goal. Actually,
00:00:46
Speaker 1: it makes all of us here at sleep HQ extremely
00:00:50
Speaker 1: happy to see your names coming in each day asking
00:00:53
Speaker 1: to join up. Thank you, and we hope you enjoy
00:00:56
Speaker 1: all the relaxing stories and bonus episodes now coming your
00:01:00
Speaker 1: way now. A little Birdie tells me that you guys
00:01:05
Speaker 1: especially like the little relaxation bits before the story, so
00:01:09
Speaker 1: we'll do one now. But I hope you're not too hungry,
00:01:13
Speaker 1: because in tonight's story, we're going to be whipping up
00:01:15
Speaker 1: a whole host of delicious treats in our new friend
00:01:18
Speaker 1: Betty Badger's kitchen. Yep, we are going to be whisking,
00:01:23
Speaker 1: kneading and sprinkling to our hearts content with Betty and
00:01:28
Speaker 1: her special little helpers. So to get prepared, let's start
00:01:32
Speaker 1: this relaxation with our hands. You can do this wherever
00:01:36
Speaker 1: you are, although soon enough you will be in bed hopefully.
00:01:41
Speaker 1: Just open and close your hands really fast, and then
00:01:45
Speaker 1: stop again. Squeeze them closed and spring them open again
00:01:50
Speaker 1: really quickly for five four three two one seconds and stop.
00:01:58
Speaker 1: Do they feel a bit tired? Now, okay, let them
00:02:01
Speaker 1: just rest, but we're going to try that with our
00:02:04
Speaker 1: strong arms. So bend and flex your arms a few
00:02:08
Speaker 1: times quickly, and then stop. Now they should feel a
00:02:14
Speaker 1: little tired. And if you're not now already, then climb
00:02:19
Speaker 1: into bed and lie down on your back. Now, shrug
00:02:24
Speaker 1: your shoulders up to your ears, and as you pull
00:02:27
Speaker 1: them up, breathe in, and as you release them down
00:02:32
Speaker 1: breathe out.
00:02:34
Speaker 2: So up, breathe in, down, breathe out up, down, up, down, up.
00:02:49
Speaker 1: And sigh as you bring them down and stop.
00:02:55
Speaker 2: There you go.
00:02:57
Speaker 1: Now everything's been used and is ready to rest, and
00:03:01
Speaker 1: you are already to listen to this cozy tale, which
00:03:05
Speaker 1: is great because it really won't be long until the
00:03:08
Speaker 1: doors to the bakery opened to customers. This is Betty
00:03:12
Speaker 1: Badger's Bakery by Alicia Ainslie. Betty Badger's alarm clock gently chimed,
00:03:24
Speaker 1: and she stirred, rolling over in bed to turn it off.
00:03:29
Speaker 1: She sleepily opened up her heavy eyes to check the time.
00:03:35
Speaker 1: It was two o'clock in the morning. Perfect. Two o'clock
00:03:40
Speaker 1: in the morning wasn't an unusual time for Betty Badger
00:03:43
Speaker 1: to be waking up. For you see, badgers and nocturnal animals,
00:03:47
Speaker 1: which means they mainly come out at night, and being
00:03:52
Speaker 1: nocturnal was perfect for Betty Badger as it meant that
00:03:55
Speaker 1: she had plenty of time during the night to prepare
00:03:58
Speaker 1: everything for when her shot opened in the morning. Betty
00:04:02
Speaker 1: Badger owned the most popular bakery in the whole of
00:04:06
Speaker 1: Sleepy Forest. Animals and magical creatures from all over journeyed
00:04:11
Speaker 1: to Betty Badger's bakery with the intention of buying a
00:04:14
Speaker 1: delicious baked good or two. She had built up a
00:04:18
Speaker 1: stellar reputation with her delicious creations, and there was always
00:04:22
Speaker 1: a long queue already waiting outside her bakery door when
00:04:26
Speaker 1: she flipped over the closed sign to open. Betty worked
00:04:32
Speaker 1: all the way through the night, baking up a vast
00:04:36
Speaker 1: variety of sweet treats, fresh pastries, and loaves of bread
00:04:41
Speaker 1: to delight her customers with. With so many eager customers
00:04:46
Speaker 1: coming through her bakery door every day, Betty needed to
00:04:49
Speaker 1: whip up a huge selection of delicious treats. Luckily, Betty
00:04:54
Speaker 1: had a few eager helpers that assisted her in the
00:04:57
Speaker 1: kitchen to get everything ready. The children, Ginger, Chip and Lavender,
00:05:05
Speaker 1: Betty's three little badges, adored helping out their mother in
00:05:08
Speaker 1: the kitchen, and they were quite the little bakers themselves.
00:05:13
Speaker 1: Ever since they had been just teeny tiny badger cubs,
00:05:16
Speaker 1: Ginger Chip and Lavender had shown an interest in baking.
00:05:22
Speaker 1: Watching their mother work so hard every day and enjoying
00:05:25
Speaker 1: the delectable treats she produced, they had always wanted to
00:05:29
Speaker 1: learn how to do what she did, so as soon
00:05:33
Speaker 1: as they were big enough, Betty began teaching them how
00:05:36
Speaker 1: to bake too. With the help of her three little badges,
00:05:41
Speaker 1: Betty was able to make dozens of batches of cookies, cakes, breads, pastries, pies,
00:05:48
Speaker 1: and doughnuts each night. Betty liked to say that the
00:05:53
Speaker 1: food in her bakery tasted so good because it was
00:05:56
Speaker 1: made with love, teamwork, and a spring unkle of family magic.
00:06:03
Speaker 1: So as soon as her alarm went off at two
00:06:05
Speaker 1: o'clock in the morning. Betty rolled out of bed and
00:06:08
Speaker 1: prepared to get to work. She brushed her hair and
00:06:13
Speaker 1: wrapped her yellow pinafore around her waist, and then headed
00:06:17
Speaker 1: over to her children's room to wake them up. Ginger, Chip,
00:06:22
Speaker 1: and Lavender all slept in the same bedroom, in their
00:06:25
Speaker 1: own little bed, side by side. Their bedcovers all had
00:06:30
Speaker 1: pictures of cupcakes on, and they each had a woven
00:06:34
Speaker 1: dream catcher hanging above their beds. Betty wondered what wonderful
00:06:40
Speaker 1: dreams the dreamcatchers had managed to catch that night. Betty
00:06:46
Speaker 1: gently nudged each of her children in their peaceful beds
00:06:50
Speaker 1: and whispered, wakey, wakey, rise and shine my little muffins.
00:06:58
Speaker 1: Ginger and Chip began to stir and stretch their fuzzy
00:07:03
Speaker 1: little arms above their heads, preparing for the day ahead,
00:07:08
Speaker 1: but Lavender buried her head beneath her pillow instead. She whimpered,
00:07:15
Speaker 1: how tired. I don't want to get up. Betty stood
00:07:21
Speaker 1: back and giggled at her sleepy daughter. Oh that's a shame,
00:07:27
Speaker 1: said Betty with a smile. I was going to let
00:07:31
Speaker 1: you ice the sponge cake today, but if you'd rather
00:07:35
Speaker 1: stay in bed. I'll just do it myself. All of
00:07:39
Speaker 1: a sudden, Lavender poured the pillow back away from her head,
00:07:42
Speaker 1: and she shot up out of bed. Lavender loved icing cakes.
00:07:49
Speaker 1: She adored squeezing the piping bag and designing her own
00:07:53
Speaker 1: swirls and patterns with the icing. Betty knew that this
00:07:58
Speaker 1: promise would be enough to get her daughter out of bed.
00:08:03
Speaker 1: The three little Badgers all brushed their hair and put
00:08:07
Speaker 1: on their aprons. Ginger wore a sky blue apron. Chip
00:08:13
Speaker 1: wore a soft green, a Lavender wore a light purple one.
00:08:18
Speaker 1: Then they all headed to the kitchen that backed onto
00:08:22
Speaker 1: Betty's bakery. Betty's bakery kitchen was huge. It was the
00:08:30
Speaker 1: biggest room in their house to accommodate all of the
00:08:33
Speaker 1: work that went on in it. There was a wall
00:08:37
Speaker 1: of ovens and a large kitchen island to work at,
00:08:41
Speaker 1: cupboards upon cupboards full of baking trays and mixing bowls,
00:08:47
Speaker 1: and several drawers full of utensils like spatchelors, whisks, and
00:08:52
Speaker 1: rolling pins. The walls were painted a soft yellow, Betty's
00:08:58
Speaker 1: favorite color, and all of the cupboards were creamy white.
00:09:03
Speaker 1: A large blackboard was hung up on the main kitchen wall,
00:09:07
Speaker 1: and on it, scribbled in chalk, was today's bakery menu.
00:09:13
Speaker 1: The three little badgers stood beneath the chalk board and
00:09:17
Speaker 1: read the menu. This morning, on top of their usual bakes,
00:09:22
Speaker 1: they needed to make half a dozen loaves of bread,
00:09:26
Speaker 1: two dozen raspberry and white chocolate cupcakes, one dozen seeded bagels,
00:09:32
Speaker 1: and a big cream cake. Ginger, Chip and Lavender all
00:09:38
Speaker 1: began to buzz with excitement, and they turned to their
00:09:42
Speaker 1: mother for instruction. What shall we make first, cried Chip
00:09:46
Speaker 1: with anticipation. Betty looked at her three eager children, then
00:09:53
Speaker 1: at the board, and contemplated. Betty decided, Ginger, how about
00:10:01
Speaker 1: you get started mixing the ingredients for the bread dough.
00:10:06
Speaker 1: Chip you can start on the sponge mix, and Lavender
00:10:10
Speaker 1: you can grab the seeds for the bagels. I'll begin
00:10:14
Speaker 1: whipping up the bagel mixture. The three little badgers all
00:10:19
Speaker 1: nodded obediently and wandered off to get to work. They
00:10:24
Speaker 1: all washed their hands with soap at the wash basins
00:10:28
Speaker 1: and then headed to their respective baking stations, ready to
00:10:33
Speaker 1: get their paws stuck in. On the way to her station,
00:10:39
Speaker 1: Lavender paused and asked her mother, I do still get
00:10:43
Speaker 1: to ic the cake today, right? Betty chuckled and assured
00:10:49
Speaker 1: her daughter that she would indeed get to ice the
00:10:52
Speaker 1: cake as promised. Can I sprink all the seed on
00:10:56
Speaker 1: the bagels? Called out Ginger. Can I dust the cupcakes?
00:11:02
Speaker 1: Piped up chip. Betty reassured all of her children that
00:11:07
Speaker 1: they would all get a chance to do the fun
00:11:10
Speaker 1: decorating tasks too, But first they needed to make the
00:11:14
Speaker 1: basis of all the food. Ginger picked a large mixing
00:11:19
Speaker 1: bowl out of one of the cupboards and placed it
00:11:22
Speaker 1: on the worktop. Then he began to collect all of
00:11:26
Speaker 1: the ingredients he would need for the bread dough. He
00:11:30
Speaker 1: needed a bag of flour, some salt and yeast, and
00:11:34
Speaker 1: a jug of water. The ingredients for bread are surprisingly minimal.
00:11:40
Speaker 1: Betty always said that it's the kneading and baking process
00:11:45
Speaker 1: that makes her bread extra special. Betty often liked to
00:11:50
Speaker 1: add surprise flavors to her loaves of bread, using herbs
00:11:54
Speaker 1: such as rosemary, thyme, and basil. Plus Her cheesy garlic
00:12:00
Speaker 1: bread was a big hit whenever she made it. Perhaps
00:12:04
Speaker 1: today she would make a selection of different flavors for
00:12:08
Speaker 1: her customers to choose from. While Ginger combined his ingredients
00:12:14
Speaker 1: in a mixing bowl. Chip collected his ingredients for the
00:12:18
Speaker 1: sponge mix. The sponge mix would be used for both
00:12:23
Speaker 1: the cupcakes and the cream cake, so he needed to
00:12:26
Speaker 1: make a lot of it. He too, needed flour, but
00:12:31
Speaker 1: he also required sugar, eggs, butter, baking powder, and milk.
00:12:39
Speaker 1: Cake mix was much more complex than bread dough, and
00:12:43
Speaker 1: it could often get messy. Luckily, Chip loved getting messy.
00:12:51
Speaker 1: Chip got stuck into combining his cake mix while Betty
00:12:55
Speaker 1: made her bagel dough on the other side of the
00:12:57
Speaker 1: kitchen counter. Betty had been baking for so many years
00:13:02
Speaker 1: that she was much quicker than her young children. However,
00:13:06
Speaker 1: she couldn't do it all alone. Her bakery had become
00:13:10
Speaker 1: too popular. She was grateful for her children's help in
00:13:14
Speaker 1: the kitchen. As she watched her two sons crack eggs,
00:13:20
Speaker 1: sprinkle salt, and weigh out the flower, she beamed with pride.
00:13:26
Speaker 1: Just as Betty was finishing up her bagel dough, Lavender
00:13:31
Speaker 1: appeared by her side with a basket full of seeds.
00:13:35
Speaker 1: Here you go, mamma, Lavender said, proudly, placing the basket
00:13:40
Speaker 1: down on the worktop. The Squirrel's got a good mixture
00:13:44
Speaker 1: of seats for us today. There are poppy seeds and
00:13:48
Speaker 1: sesame seeds, plus a few carraway seats. Betty smiled gratefully
00:13:56
Speaker 1: and replied, those all sound and delicious. They will be
00:14:02
Speaker 1: perfect on our bagels. Betty placed the basket of seeds
00:14:08
Speaker 1: to the side next to the bagel dough and walked
00:14:12
Speaker 1: around to inspect Ginger and chips mixing bowls. Ginger's bread
00:14:17
Speaker 1: dough was perfectly gooey, and he was in the process
00:14:21
Speaker 1: of rolling it up into a big ball when Betty
00:14:24
Speaker 1: walked over. He sprinkled some flour on the kitchen surface
00:14:29
Speaker 1: and tipped the ball of dough out onto the worktop.
00:14:34
Speaker 1: It was time to knead the dough. Ginger pushed his
00:14:39
Speaker 1: palms into the ball of dough, creating a big dip
00:14:43
Speaker 1: in the center with a satisfying squish. Then he picked
00:14:48
Speaker 1: up the edge of the dough and folded on top
00:14:52
Speaker 1: before repeating the motion. Kneading the dough was important to
00:14:57
Speaker 1: ensure that lots of air bubbles worked there way into
00:15:00
Speaker 1: the dough. Without lots of air bubbles inside, the dough
00:15:05
Speaker 1: wouldn't inflate during baking, so it was an important process.
00:15:11
Speaker 1: Ginger laughed. Kneading dough, it felt like play dough in
00:15:16
Speaker 1: his hands, and he delighted in the motion of squishing
00:15:20
Speaker 1: and folding, squishing and folding over and over again until
00:15:27
Speaker 1: it was just right. When Ginger believed the dough to
00:15:32
Speaker 1: be ready, he rolled it up into a big ball,
00:15:35
Speaker 1: placed it back inside the mixing bowl, and covered it
00:15:39
Speaker 1: with film. I've made the bread dough, declared Ginger, and
00:15:46
Speaker 1: Betty patted him on the back. Now the dough would
00:15:50
Speaker 1: need to be left to rise for an hour or
00:15:53
Speaker 1: so before they could tear it up into smaller chunks
00:15:56
Speaker 1: to make loaves of bread. Baking was all about patients.
00:16:04
Speaker 1: The bread dough and the bagel dough would need to
00:16:07
Speaker 1: be left alone to rise for a while before they
00:16:11
Speaker 1: could be baked and finished, so in the meantime the
00:16:16
Speaker 1: Badgers could all focus on making the cakes. Chips. Cake
00:16:23
Speaker 1: batter was ready to go, and so the other Badgers
00:16:27
Speaker 1: set about preparing the next steps. Lavender took a couple
00:16:31
Speaker 1: of cupcake trays out of the cupboard and placed them
00:16:34
Speaker 1: on the worktop. Then she placed a wrapper in each
00:16:39
Speaker 1: cake tin. Ginger grabbed two large cake tins from another
00:16:44
Speaker 1: cupboard and lined them with baking paper while Betty collected
00:16:49
Speaker 1: the white chocolate chips and raspberry pieces. Betty assisted Chip
00:16:54
Speaker 1: in pouring out some of the cake batter into the
00:16:57
Speaker 1: two lined cake tins that would be used to make
00:17:00
Speaker 1: the cream cake, ensuring none got spilt or wasted. Then,
00:17:07
Speaker 1: when those tins were full, she began to add the
00:17:10
Speaker 1: white chocolate chips and raspberry pieces to the remaining batter
00:17:14
Speaker 1: in the bowl. She gave it all a good mix
00:17:18
Speaker 1: up with a wooden spoon, sloshing the mixture around the
00:17:22
Speaker 1: bowl with expertise, and then they all set to work
00:17:26
Speaker 1: dividing the remaining batter between the cupcake wrappers. Ginger Chip
00:17:32
Speaker 1: and Lavender each used a big tablespoon to scoop out
00:17:36
Speaker 1: the white chocolate and raspberry mixture from the bowl and
00:17:39
Speaker 1: dollop it into each cake wrapper until there was nothing left.
00:17:45
Speaker 1: When the mixing bowl was empty and the cake tins
00:17:48
Speaker 1: were all filled, Betty looked at her three little badgers,
00:17:53
Speaker 1: who all had mischievous grins on their faces. She paused,
00:17:58
Speaker 1: smiled and laughed. All right, then, you can now lick
00:18:05
Speaker 1: the spoons right on. Cue. Ginger Chip and Lavender all excitedly,
00:18:12
Speaker 1: cheered and licked the leftover batter off their wooden spoons,
00:18:17
Speaker 1: giggling with glee as they did. They loved making cakes
00:18:22
Speaker 1: together purely for this reason. The sweet, sticky batter was delicious,
00:18:29
Speaker 1: and they licked up every last bit off their spoons.
00:18:35
Speaker 1: Betty switched on the ovens and lined up the cake
00:18:39
Speaker 1: tins ready to go inside. Betty always handled the ovens
00:18:44
Speaker 1: whilst the kids cleaned down their baking stations to prepare
00:18:48
Speaker 1: for the next steps of their morning baking. Once the
00:18:53
Speaker 1: cakes were in the oven, they all washed up the
00:18:56
Speaker 1: bowls and spoons and wiped down the kitchen worked up together.
00:19:02
Speaker 1: Lavender put extra bubbles into the washing up ball and
00:19:06
Speaker 1: had lots of fun playing with them. While she cleaned,
00:19:10
Speaker 1: She scooped up a big handful of white bubbles and
00:19:14
Speaker 1: spread them across her chin. She turned around to her
00:19:18
Speaker 1: brothers and declared, Hey, look have got a beard. Ginger
00:19:23
Speaker 1: and Chip started to giggle deliriously and wanted to have
00:19:27
Speaker 1: her go too. Chip picked up some bubbles and placed
00:19:31
Speaker 1: them on his head. Look, I have a hat, he announced,
00:19:37
Speaker 1: and they all laughed. Then Ginger gathered up some bubbles
00:19:41
Speaker 1: in his hands and blew them everywhere, announcing that he
00:19:46
Speaker 1: had created magic. The three little badgers all laughed hysterically
00:19:53
Speaker 1: at their mischievousness, and Betty watched on from the other
00:19:57
Speaker 1: side of the kitchen with a smirk. Meanwhile, Betty divided
00:20:02
Speaker 1: up the bagel dough into round pieces, poked a hole
00:20:06
Speaker 1: in each, and put them in a big pan to
00:20:09
Speaker 1: boil while she set to work on the loaves of bread.
00:20:13
Speaker 1: When the bagels were ready, she placed them on a
00:20:16
Speaker 1: baking tray and called out to her children, if you
00:20:21
Speaker 1: want to sprinkle the seeds on top, then your need
00:20:24
Speaker 1: to dry your hands and clean up those bubbles on
00:20:27
Speaker 1: the floor. The three little badgers did as they were
00:20:31
Speaker 1: told and raced over to the bagels to finish them off. Together,
00:20:36
Speaker 1: Lavender brushed egg yolk over the tops of them, and
00:20:40
Speaker 1: Ginger and Chip sprinkled the seed mixed from the basket
00:20:43
Speaker 1: over the top. To finish the bagels, Betty placed them
00:20:48
Speaker 1: all on a baking tray, lit up another oven, and
00:20:52
Speaker 1: placed them inside. Lastly, Betty added a few finishing touches
00:20:59
Speaker 1: to the loaves of bread, sprinkling herbs and cheese over
00:21:03
Speaker 1: the tops of their doughey creations and then placed them
00:21:07
Speaker 1: in a separate oven. Betty instructed each of her children
00:21:12
Speaker 1: to watch over the varying baked items through the oven
00:21:16
Speaker 1: doors to ensure none of them burnt. Ginger was in
00:21:21
Speaker 1: charge of the bread, Chip in charge of the cakes,
00:21:25
Speaker 1: and Lavender was in charge of the bagels. While her
00:21:31
Speaker 1: children carefully watched over the differing cakes and breads in
00:21:35
Speaker 1: the oven, Betty whipped up a bowl of icing and
00:21:39
Speaker 1: filled up a piping bag with frosting. She checked the
00:21:43
Speaker 1: clock on the wall. It bred five o'clock. They had
00:21:48
Speaker 1: just enough time to allow the cakes to cool and
00:21:51
Speaker 1: decorate them ready for the shop opening. As soon as
00:21:56
Speaker 1: the cakes and loaves of bread had baked to perfection,
00:22:00
Speaker 1: Betty lifted out each tray with a pair of ovengloves
00:22:05
Speaker 1: and placed them on the cooling racks. Chip gazed at
00:22:09
Speaker 1: the sweet smelling cupcakes adoringly and sniffed the air with longing,
00:22:15
Speaker 1: but Betty reminded him, don't you go taking one. They
00:22:21
Speaker 1: will all be very hot fresh from the oven. We
00:22:25
Speaker 1: need to let them cool down while they're baked. Goods cooled,
00:22:31
Speaker 1: the whole family set to work dusting, sweeping, and wiping
00:22:37
Speaker 1: down Betty's bakery. The quaint little shop was only small,
00:22:43
Speaker 1: so it was easy to clean, and they had it
00:22:45
Speaker 1: finished in next to no time. Betty gazed around her
00:22:50
Speaker 1: precious shop with pride. She couldn't wait for her customers
00:22:55
Speaker 1: to see what they'd been baking all through the night.
00:23:01
Speaker 1: Returning to the kitchen, the air was filled with the
00:23:05
Speaker 1: mouth watering scent of freshly baked bread. Instinctively, Betty, ginger Chip,
00:23:14
Speaker 1: and Lavender's bellies all rumbled with desire. But these loaves
00:23:21
Speaker 1: of bread weren't for them. They were for Betty's customers,
00:23:25
Speaker 1: and they still had a lot to accomplish before the
00:23:28
Speaker 1: bakery opened. Once the cakes had all cooled down, ginger
00:23:34
Speaker 1: Chip and Lavender picked the cupcakes out of the trays
00:23:38
Speaker 1: by their wrappers and placed them on the worktop to
00:23:42
Speaker 1: be iced. At the same time, Betty carefully extracted the
00:23:47
Speaker 1: two round slabs of sponge cake from their tins and
00:23:51
Speaker 1: placed them down to be iced. Lavender rushed to her
00:23:56
Speaker 1: mother's side enthusiastically and whispered, remember, she said, I get
00:24:02
Speaker 1: to ic the cake to day. Betty passed a spatulor
00:24:07
Speaker 1: to Lavender and replied, yes, I did. Let's get to
00:24:13
Speaker 1: work then, whilst Ginger and Chip worked together to ice
00:24:19
Speaker 1: the cupcakes. Betty and Lavender coated the top of one
00:24:24
Speaker 1: of the large sponges with butter cream and strawberry jam,
00:24:28
Speaker 1: and then they placed the other circle of sponge on top. Next,
00:24:34
Speaker 1: they set to work spreading white icing all over the
00:24:37
Speaker 1: top and sides of the two tiered cream cake. They
00:24:42
Speaker 1: delicately slathered the icing on with gentle motions of their
00:24:46
Speaker 1: spatchelors and ensured that no spot of sponge was uncovered.
00:24:54
Speaker 1: To finish off their creamy creation, Betty helped Lavender decorate
00:24:59
Speaker 1: the top of the cake with perfect pretty patterns using
00:25:04
Speaker 1: a piping bag. They held the bag together and twisted
00:25:09
Speaker 1: and squeezed it to splurge frosting shapes around the top
00:25:14
Speaker 1: edges of the cream cake. When it was finally finished,
00:25:19
Speaker 1: it looked like a work of art. Ginger and Chip
00:25:24
Speaker 1: were equally as proud of their cupcake creations. They added
00:25:29
Speaker 1: the finishing touch to their frosted cupcakes by tapping multicolored
00:25:35
Speaker 1: sprinkles onto them, and stood back to admire their handiwork,
00:25:40
Speaker 1: giving each other a high five. Betty observed all of
00:25:47
Speaker 1: the beautiful baked delights they'd made as a team this
00:25:50
Speaker 1: morning and clapped her hands together with delight. Well done,
00:25:56
Speaker 1: my little badgers, she cried, quitted it yet again. The
00:26:02
Speaker 1: customers are going to love what we have made for
00:26:05
Speaker 1: them today. They all carried out the loaves of bread, bagels, cupcakes,
00:26:13
Speaker 1: and the big cream cake together into the bakery, stocked
00:26:18
Speaker 1: the shelves, and filled the cabinet. Gazing at all of
00:26:24
Speaker 1: the various delicious baked items in the shop cabinet, Betty
00:26:29
Speaker 1: smiled and said, I think we worked so hard tonight
00:26:36
Speaker 1: that we should enjoy a little of this for ourselves.
00:26:41
Speaker 1: Betty took one loaf of bread off the shelf and
00:26:45
Speaker 1: then turned to her three little helpers. She gestured to
00:26:50
Speaker 1: the pretty iced cupcakes and whispered, go on, you can
00:26:55
Speaker 1: each have one for your hard work. Inure, Chip and
00:27:01
Speaker 1: Lavender all leapt for joy and picked a cupcake each
00:27:05
Speaker 1: from the shop cabinet. They didn't waste any time getting
00:27:10
Speaker 1: stuck into them and gobbled them up within seconds. As always,
00:27:16
Speaker 1: they were absolutely delicious. The three little badgers licked their
00:27:22
Speaker 1: fingers clean and thanked their mother.
00:27:26
Speaker 2: Right.
00:27:27
Speaker 1: Betty announced, clapping her paws together, let's open up. Lavender
00:27:35
Speaker 1: opened up the rolling blind that covered the large front
00:27:38
Speaker 1: window to the bakery and gasped as the sunlight streamed in,
00:27:44
Speaker 1: lighting up the room. Already there were animals queuing up
00:27:49
Speaker 1: outside the bakery door waiting to come inside. Wow, Mamma,
00:27:55
Speaker 1: Lavender exclaimed, you have lots of customers already. Ginger responded,
00:28:03
Speaker 1: that's because mamma is the best baker in Sleepy Forest.
00:28:08
Speaker 1: Betty smiled proudly and added, we all are the best
00:28:14
Speaker 1: bakers in Sleepy Forest. I couldn't do it without your help.
00:28:20
Speaker 1: Betty gave her children a big hug and then walked
00:28:25
Speaker 1: over to the shop door. She unlatched the lock and
00:28:29
Speaker 1: turned the sign hanging on the door to open. She
00:28:35
Speaker 1: glanced over her shoulder back at her little Badger's and whispered,
00:28:40
Speaker 1: you all go have fun now. I will take it
00:28:44
Speaker 1: from here. With that, Ginger, Chip and Lavender walked back
00:28:51
Speaker 1: into their house to enjoy the rest of the morning
00:28:55
Speaker 1: before having a much needed rest, and Betty opened the
00:29:00
Speaker 1: door to her bakery and greeted her first customers of
00:29:04
Speaker 1: the day. Welcome to Betty Badger's Bakery, she announced to
00:29:11
Speaker 1: her customers. The customers all stepped inside and browsed the
00:29:17
Speaker 1: scrumptious treats on display with a collection of audible gasps, oohs,
00:29:24
Speaker 1: and ahs. Betty stepped behind the counter, cleaned a smudge
00:29:31
Speaker 1: of icing sugar off her pinafore, and smiled as she
00:29:35
Speaker 1: asked her first customer, so, what would you like today
