Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome back to Cocostlely, a podcast of original
00:00:15
Speaker 1: children's bedtime stories and meditations designed to make bedtime the dream.
00:00:21
Speaker 1: Before we begin, I'd like to say a very large,
00:00:24
Speaker 1: very warm welcome to our newest Coco Club members, Daisy
00:00:28
Speaker 1: and Esmy. We're so happy to have you join us.
00:00:32
Speaker 1: You and our other Coco Clubbers might like to know
00:00:35
Speaker 1: that our regal King Leo is returning in tomorrow's bonus story.
00:00:40
Speaker 1: It's been a while since we caught up with him,
00:00:42
Speaker 1: and he's as pleased as we are that we're seeing
00:00:44
Speaker 1: each other again. As you may remember, he's a very
00:00:49
Speaker 1: kind and relaxed king, and we'll accompany him on his
00:00:52
Speaker 1: morning meditative walk, where he will meet some busy minded
00:00:56
Speaker 1: animals and lead them in their own arming meditations too.
00:01:02
Speaker 1: But back to tonight. In this sweet tale, I'm about
00:01:07
Speaker 1: to tell you, we will meet a new character, a
00:01:11
Speaker 1: giraffe called Dinky. Dinky is a small little thing because
00:01:17
Speaker 1: he's only young, but in tonight's story, he will get
00:01:21
Speaker 1: an exciting opportunity to become the biggest giraffe in the
00:01:25
Speaker 1: world with the help of a touch of magic. Let's
00:01:29
Speaker 1: see what exciting things he gets up to with his
00:01:33
Speaker 1: new found height. Lie back in your bed, relax your body,
00:01:40
Speaker 1: your neck, every bit of your head, and your face.
00:01:47
Speaker 1: Just breathe in and side a few times out to
00:01:54
Speaker 1: help your body soften and your mind to clear. Get
00:02:00
Speaker 1: really comfy as I begin. Dinky the Tiny Giraffe by
00:02:06
Speaker 1: Alicia Ainslie. Dinky was a giraffe. Dinky is a funny
00:02:18
Speaker 1: name for a giraffe, isn't it. Giraffees are anything but dinky.
00:02:24
Speaker 1: With their long necks that can reach up to the
00:02:26
Speaker 1: top of the trees and their tall, gangly legs that
00:02:30
Speaker 1: allow them to hover over the other animals, they are
00:02:34
Speaker 1: anything but dinky. But alas, Dinky the giraffe was just
00:02:40
Speaker 1: that he was a small giraffe calf. He hadn't grown
00:02:46
Speaker 1: up yet to be as tall and majestic as his mother, father,
00:02:50
Speaker 1: and their friends, but one day he would. Until then,
00:02:54
Speaker 1: he was simply the tiniest giraffe in sleepy forest. When
00:03:00
Speaker 1: I grow up big and tall, with everyone still call
00:03:05
Speaker 1: me Dinky, the young calf once asked his mother. She replied,
00:03:11
Speaker 1: you can be called whatever you want people to call you.
00:03:15
Speaker 1: If you want, you can still be called Dinky, or
00:03:19
Speaker 1: you can change your name to something more grown up,
00:03:22
Speaker 1: like Harold or Ginger. Dinky chuckled at his mother's suggestions
00:03:29
Speaker 1: and said, oh, no, those names are far too boring
00:03:34
Speaker 1: for me. I think I'll keep the name Dinky. I
00:03:40
Speaker 1: quite like him. His mother giggled back, I agree, Dinky
00:03:46
Speaker 1: is a wonderful name. What Dinky lacked in height he
00:03:52
Speaker 1: made up for in personality. He was a bit of
00:03:55
Speaker 1: a jokester and was always fooling around at school. He
00:04:00
Speaker 1: was the class clown and made all of his friends
00:04:04
Speaker 1: laugh all day long. Everybody enjoyed being around Dinkie. But
00:04:10
Speaker 1: deep down, despite how much he liked his name and
00:04:15
Speaker 1: how fond he was of entertaining his friends, Dinkie had
00:04:19
Speaker 1: a secret that he wouldn't admit to anyone. Dinkie was
00:04:25
Speaker 1: tired of being so small. He watched all of the
00:04:29
Speaker 1: other giraffes slinking through the forest each day, garnering gasps
00:04:35
Speaker 1: of awe from the other animals they passed by, and
00:04:39
Speaker 1: eating the sweetest fruits at the top of the trees.
00:04:44
Speaker 1: He was a little bit jealous of them. Dinkie was
00:04:49
Speaker 1: only big enough to reach the berries on the bushes
00:04:52
Speaker 1: down on the ground. He did like the berries he ate,
00:04:56
Speaker 1: but he longed to see what all the fuss was
00:04:59
Speaker 1: about at the top of the trees. Dinkie knew that
00:05:04
Speaker 1: one day he would be big and tall like the
00:05:07
Speaker 1: other giraffes, but he was a little impatient. Sometimes, when
00:05:14
Speaker 1: nobody was looking, Dinky would try to speed up the
00:05:18
Speaker 1: growing process and take matters into his own hands. Once,
00:05:24
Speaker 1: he tried to build himself a set of stilts to
00:05:27
Speaker 1: make himself taller. He gathered and chopped up four planks
00:05:33
Speaker 1: of wood, making sure that they were the same size
00:05:36
Speaker 1: as each other. Then he taped them to the bottom
00:05:41
Speaker 1: of his four feet and attempted to stand up on them.
00:05:46
Speaker 1: Standing on stilts was trickier than Dinkie had expected, and
00:05:51
Speaker 1: he couldn't quite find his balance. He only took a
00:05:55
Speaker 1: few steps before the tape around his feet came loose
00:06:00
Speaker 1: and he tumbled to the ground, landing in a pile
00:06:03
Speaker 1: of wood. But Dinky didn't let one failed attempt put
00:06:08
Speaker 1: him off. On another occasion, Dinky decided to try a
00:06:14
Speaker 1: totally different way of reaching the top of the trees.
00:06:20
Speaker 1: There were other animals in the forest who weren't anywhere
00:06:23
Speaker 1: near as tall as the adult giraffes. But they still
00:06:27
Speaker 1: managed to eat from the top of the trees. They
00:06:31
Speaker 1: could do this because they could climb. Dinky spent days
00:06:37
Speaker 1: watching the monkeys climb the trunks, swinging from tree to
00:06:42
Speaker 1: tree and hopping all the way up to the fruit
00:06:45
Speaker 1: on the highest branches. They made it look easy, so
00:06:51
Speaker 1: after watching them intently, Dinky decided to have a go
00:06:55
Speaker 1: for himself. He approached a tree, stood on his hind legs,
00:07:01
Speaker 1: and wrapped his front two gangly little legs around the trunk.
00:07:05
Speaker 1: Then he attempted to shimmy his way up the tree.
00:07:11
Speaker 1: He tried to clutch the bark, but his hooves were
00:07:14
Speaker 1: too smooth and they couldn't grip on. Every time he
00:07:21
Speaker 1: tried to climb a little bit higher, he slid back
00:07:25
Speaker 1: down to the starting point. He even tried to use
00:07:30
Speaker 1: his long neck to reach the branches, but his body
00:07:33
Speaker 1: was too heavy to hold on solely by his teeth.
00:07:38
Speaker 1: Despite how expertly the monkeys climbed and how effortless they
00:07:44
Speaker 1: made it look, climbing trees was far too difficult for
00:07:49
Speaker 1: Dinky the giraffe think. He tried more natural methods to
00:07:55
Speaker 1: grow quicker, too. He knew that if he ate as
00:08:00
Speaker 1: many greens and vegetables as possible. Then he would grow
00:08:04
Speaker 1: up to be big and strong. But no matter how
00:08:09
Speaker 1: many greens he ate, he continued to grow at a
00:08:12
Speaker 1: steady rate. As much as Dinkie wanted to be tall already,
00:08:19
Speaker 1: he would just have to wait until he was older.
00:08:24
Speaker 1: One day, Dinky was taking a stroll through sleepy forest
00:08:29
Speaker 1: when he heard a little voice calling for help. Hello,
00:08:36
Speaker 1: here's anyone out there, the meek little voice called out.
00:08:43
Speaker 1: Dinky followed the sound of the small voice all the
00:08:47
Speaker 1: way behind a crowd of bushes and discovered a tiny
00:08:52
Speaker 1: fairy tangled up in a cluster of wild ivy. The
00:08:58
Speaker 1: little tangled fair looked up at Dinky with relief. Oh,
00:09:05
Speaker 1: thank you for finding me, the fairy said, gratefully, I'm stuck.
00:09:13
Speaker 1: Please can you help me. Dinky wasted no time in
00:09:18
Speaker 1: helping untangle the tiny fairy from the twisted ivy vines.
00:09:24
Speaker 1: He chomped through the stubborn stems and freed the magical being.
00:09:31
Speaker 1: The little fairy was so grateful to Dinky for his
00:09:34
Speaker 1: help and introduced herself. My name is Freezer. The twinkling
00:09:42
Speaker 1: fairy said, what is your name? My tea giraffe Dinky
00:09:49
Speaker 1: giggled at the fairy's description of him. My name is Dinky,
00:09:56
Speaker 1: he replied, before adding an no mighty giraffe. I'm only small, Fraser.
00:10:05
Speaker 1: The fairy looked up at him from her spot on
00:10:09
Speaker 1: the ground and responded with a shrug, Well, you seem
00:10:15
Speaker 1: pretty mighty to me. Almost everyone in the forest is
00:10:20
Speaker 1: giant to me, especially you giraffes. Dinkie smiled proudly for
00:10:28
Speaker 1: a brief moment. He liked being referred to as a giant,
00:10:34
Speaker 1: but almost as soon as the compliment had washed over him,
00:10:38
Speaker 1: it faded away as he remembered that he was only
00:10:42
Speaker 1: a small giraffe, really, Fraser. The fairy suddenly looked concerned
00:10:50
Speaker 1: and started staring at the ground around her. Dinkie asked
00:10:55
Speaker 1: what she was looking for, and she told him that
00:10:58
Speaker 1: she had lost her magic wand in all the kerfuffle
00:11:01
Speaker 1: with the ivy, she couldn't go anywhere until she had
00:11:06
Speaker 1: found her magic wand Dinky and Friser scanned the forest
00:11:12
Speaker 1: floor all around them for the wand they searched in
00:11:17
Speaker 1: the bushes and checked it wasn't lying around on the ground.
00:11:22
Speaker 1: Dinky rifled through the ivy vines to see if her
00:11:26
Speaker 1: magic wand had become tangled up in them too, but
00:11:30
Speaker 1: he couldn't spot it anywhere. Dinky turned around to walk
00:11:36
Speaker 1: over to Friser, who was now peering under a rock,
00:11:40
Speaker 1: when he bumped his head lightly into a low hanging
00:11:44
Speaker 1: tree branch. As he recoiled from the bump, he noticed
00:11:50
Speaker 1: that something tiny in silver was perfectly balanced between a
00:11:56
Speaker 1: two pronged stem of the branch, and inspected it closer
00:12:02
Speaker 1: and realized that it was a mini silver magic wand.
00:12:09
Speaker 1: I've found it. I've found your wand, Dinkie called out
00:12:14
Speaker 1: to Friezier with delight. He gently picked up the wand
00:12:19
Speaker 1: in his teeth and lowered it to the ground for
00:12:23
Speaker 1: Freezer to take. As soon as she held her wand
00:12:27
Speaker 1: in her hand again, it began to shimmer with glittering magic.
00:12:34
Speaker 1: There you are a little wand how did you get
00:12:39
Speaker 1: up there in that tree? Frisier spoke to the wand
00:12:45
Speaker 1: as if it could talk back. It must have flown
00:12:50
Speaker 1: up out of my hand when I tripped over and
00:12:54
Speaker 1: fell in the vines. Friser giggled at her clumsiness and
00:13:00
Speaker 1: gazed up at Dinkie. Thank you so much for your help.
00:13:08
Speaker 1: She gushed, I would love to offer to grant you
00:13:13
Speaker 1: one wish as payment for your kindness. Dinkie was surprised
00:13:19
Speaker 1: by her offer. He didn't expect anything in exchange for
00:13:24
Speaker 1: helping her in her time of need. He thought about
00:13:28
Speaker 1: rejecting her offer for a moment, but then a thought
00:13:33
Speaker 1: flashed through his mind. Can you grant me any wish?
00:13:39
Speaker 1: He asked curiously. Frisia nodded her head eagerly and responded, Yes,
00:13:47
Speaker 1: of course, I can grant you any wish you desire,
00:13:52
Speaker 1: but just the one, so wish carefully and make it
00:13:57
Speaker 1: a good one. Dinkie knew what he wanted in his heart.
00:14:03
Speaker 1: He wanted to be tall like the other giraffes, maybe
00:14:09
Speaker 1: even taller. He wanted to be the tallest giraffe in
00:14:15
Speaker 1: the world and know what it was like to tower
00:14:19
Speaker 1: above everyone and eat from the highest trees. He decided
00:14:25
Speaker 1: to make his wish. Please, can I become the biggest
00:14:33
Speaker 1: giraffe in the world, just for one day? He wished,
00:14:40
Speaker 1: I want to know what it feels like to be
00:14:45
Speaker 1: not so dinky. Friezier held her sparkling silver wand up
00:14:52
Speaker 1: above her head and replied, your wish is my command.
00:15:02
Speaker 1: She swirled her wand around her head and flicked it
00:15:06
Speaker 1: with a twist of her wrist in Dinky's direction. Streams
00:15:11
Speaker 1: of sparkling silver light trickled out of the end of
00:15:16
Speaker 1: her wand and through the air, surrounding Dinkie's entire body
00:15:23
Speaker 1: and making him sparkle with magic too. Dinkie felt the
00:15:30
Speaker 1: magical beams of light tickle his skin as they seeped
00:15:35
Speaker 1: into his body. His whole body grew warm as the
00:15:41
Speaker 1: magic absorbed itself into his skin and rippled through his bones.
00:15:49
Speaker 1: All of a sudden, he started to notice big changes
00:15:54
Speaker 1: in his body. His legs started to grow below him,
00:16:00
Speaker 1: and his neck began to stretch. As his legs and
00:16:06
Speaker 1: neck shot upwards, he watched as the ground became further
00:16:12
Speaker 1: and further away and freezier. The fairy almost disappeared out
00:16:18
Speaker 1: of sight. He could barely see what was on the
00:16:22
Speaker 1: forest floor any more. It wasn't long before his head
00:16:29
Speaker 1: was as high as the top of the leafy trees.
00:16:35
Speaker 1: Dinkie couldn't believe it. He was a tall giraf, just
00:16:41
Speaker 1: like he had wanted. But he wasn't just a tall giraffe.
00:16:47
Speaker 1: He was a huge one. He was most definitely the
00:16:52
Speaker 1: biggest giraffe in the world. He heard a tinkling sound
00:16:58
Speaker 1: next to his ear, and he turned his head to
00:17:02
Speaker 1: see Friezer floating in the air using her delicate wings.
00:17:09
Speaker 1: Are you pleased, she asked hopefully. Dinkie was very pleased.
00:17:17
Speaker 1: He couldn't wait to see what he could get up
00:17:21
Speaker 1: to with his new found height. He certainly wasn't Dinkie
00:17:26
Speaker 1: any more. Frijer reminded him that the effects of the
00:17:32
Speaker 1: spell would only last for one day, so when sunset came,
00:17:38
Speaker 1: he would return to his original size. That was fine
00:17:43
Speaker 1: by Dinkie. He was going to make the most of
00:17:46
Speaker 1: this opportunity. Frizer wished him a wonderful day and whisked
00:17:53
Speaker 1: herself off home, leaving Dinkie to enjoy his day as
00:17:58
Speaker 1: the biggest giraffe in the world. Dinkie wasn't quite sure
00:18:04
Speaker 1: where to begin. There were so many things he had
00:18:09
Speaker 1: looked forward to doing when he was older and taller,
00:18:13
Speaker 1: but now that the time had arrived sooner than he
00:18:17
Speaker 1: had expected, he didn't know where to start. He wandered
00:18:24
Speaker 1: through sleepy forest, getting used to his new long legs.
00:18:30
Speaker 1: Every step that he took was the equivalent of ten
00:18:35
Speaker 1: tiny steps he would have made earlier that day when
00:18:39
Speaker 1: he was shorter. If he desired to, he could travel
00:18:45
Speaker 1: anywhere he wanted. In the blink of an eye. He
00:18:49
Speaker 1: could probably make his way all around Sleepy Forest in
00:18:54
Speaker 1: one day if he tried. Dinkie decided to get used
00:18:59
Speaker 1: to his new life. Eggs first, he trotted to pick
00:19:04
Speaker 1: up the pace and was delighted by how thrilling the
00:19:08
Speaker 1: wind felt in his ears. As he skipped along, he
00:19:13
Speaker 1: could hear the birds songs loud and clear. He could
00:19:19
Speaker 1: spot the squirrels scurrying between their nests and the red
00:19:24
Speaker 1: pandas lazing about in the treetops. He was seeing a
00:19:30
Speaker 1: whole new world up here at the top of the woodland.
00:19:36
Speaker 1: As he picked up his pace and began to gallop,
00:19:40
Speaker 1: he was enthralled by how fast he could move. He
00:19:45
Speaker 1: spotted a boulder in the distance and decided to count
00:19:50
Speaker 1: as he ran towards it. One Mississippi two, Mississippi three,
00:19:57
Speaker 1: Mississippi four, Mississippi five, Mississippi six, Mississippi seven, Mississippi. He
00:20:07
Speaker 1: pounded his long, gangly legs against the ground as fast
00:20:13
Speaker 1: as he could, and when he reached the boulder. He
00:20:18
Speaker 1: realized that he had run over to it in only
00:20:23
Speaker 1: seven seconds. His speed surely broke all the world records.
00:20:31
Speaker 1: Dinky bed that even the speedy cheetah would struggle to
00:20:37
Speaker 1: keep up with his pace. To day, he paused to
00:20:43
Speaker 1: catch his breath and heard the muffling sound of a
00:20:47
Speaker 1: few familiar voices. He followed the voices and peered his
00:20:53
Speaker 1: head over the top of the trees to discover three
00:20:58
Speaker 1: of his good friends from school picking sweet berries from
00:21:03
Speaker 1: the bush. Were his friend's Becky the Hippo, Suki the Snake,
00:21:09
Speaker 1: and Willoughby the Wallaby. Hey, guys, Dinky greeted them from above.
00:21:17
Speaker 1: The three friends were startled at first by his sudden appearance,
00:21:22
Speaker 1: but their surprise soon turned into laughter and bewilderment as
00:21:27
Speaker 1: they realized it was Dinky. Oh my Dinky, you've grown fast.
00:21:35
Speaker 1: Becky the Hippo exclaimed, her eyebrows shot up so high
00:21:41
Speaker 1: to look at him that the red willy hat she
00:21:44
Speaker 1: was wearing almost fell off her head. How did you
00:21:51
Speaker 1: get to be so tall, Dinky, Sukie the Snake asked
00:21:58
Speaker 1: in amazement, have you had a gross birt? Willoughby questioned,
00:22:06
Speaker 1: with this belief Dinky chuckled and replied something like that,
00:22:14
Speaker 1: I met a fairy in the forest, and do you
00:22:17
Speaker 1: offer to grant me one wish? So I decided to
00:22:22
Speaker 1: wish to be the biggest giraffe in the world for
00:22:26
Speaker 1: the day. His three friends were astonished by Dinky's chance encounter.
00:22:33
Speaker 1: They wished that they had bumped into a wish granting
00:22:36
Speaker 1: fairy on their travels. What fun things have you got
00:22:42
Speaker 1: up to since you've grown so tall, Willoughby the Wallerby
00:22:47
Speaker 1: asked inquisitively. Willoughby was only a small animal even when
00:22:54
Speaker 1: Dinky was his normal tiny size. Now that Dinky was
00:22:59
Speaker 1: so huge, he could barely spot his good friend. Dinkie
00:23:05
Speaker 1: admitted that he hadn't done much of anything yet. He
00:23:10
Speaker 1: had only just said goodbye to the fairy, and he
00:23:14
Speaker 1: didn't know where to begin with all the fun activities
00:23:17
Speaker 1: at his disposal. Becky the Hippo folded her arms and
00:23:25
Speaker 1: tapped the side of her head in thought. She had
00:23:30
Speaker 1: a great idea for how Dinky could put his new
00:23:34
Speaker 1: stupendous height to good use. She asked, Dinky, surely you
00:23:43
Speaker 1: are tall enough to reach the fruits at the top
00:23:46
Speaker 1: of the trees. Now, please could you grab some of
00:23:50
Speaker 1: the fruit and bring it to the ground so that
00:23:53
Speaker 1: we can all try it? Sukie and Willoughby nodded their
00:23:59
Speaker 1: heads in eager agreement. All four of the young friends
00:24:05
Speaker 1: had spoken about their longing for the fruits at the
00:24:09
Speaker 1: top of the trees so many times before. They had
00:24:14
Speaker 1: assumed they would have to wait until they all grew
00:24:18
Speaker 1: up to taste them. But now that Dinkie had fast
00:24:22
Speaker 1: tracked his growth burd their wishes could be fulfilled. Dinkie
00:24:30
Speaker 1: craned his neck to look around for any fruit trees nearby. Luckily,
00:24:37
Speaker 1: there were some delicious banana trees nearby. He took four
00:24:43
Speaker 1: epic strides forward and reached the banana trees. He picked
00:24:50
Speaker 1: a bunch of bananas and carefully lowered them to the
00:24:54
Speaker 1: ground for his friends. Becky, Suki, and Willoughby all rushed
00:25:01
Speaker 1: over to see what he had picked. Wow, these are bananas,
00:25:09
Speaker 1: Becky declared with delight. I've only ever heard of monkeys
00:25:15
Speaker 1: being able to eat them before. Now none of the
00:25:19
Speaker 1: other animals can reach them. Dinky smugly retorted, well, now
00:25:28
Speaker 1: I can reach them. Becky, Souki, Willoughby, and Dinky all
00:25:35
Speaker 1: tucked into the bunch of bananas. They peeled the rubbery
00:25:40
Speaker 1: yellow skin bag and devoured the soft fruit inside. Wow,
00:25:49
Speaker 1: this fruit really is the best fruit ever, Dinky proclaimed
00:25:56
Speaker 1: as he munched away. All friends were absolutely enamored with
00:26:03
Speaker 1: the delicious fruits, and they ate and ate until their
00:26:08
Speaker 1: stomachs were full of fruity goodness. Dinky's three friends lied
00:26:16
Speaker 1: down on their backs and patted their bellies with satisfaction.
00:26:22
Speaker 1: That was so yummy. I think I'm ready for a
00:26:27
Speaker 1: nap now, Willoughby side, closing his eyes. Oh, Becky and
00:26:36
Speaker 1: Souki agreed and closed their eyes to relax with their friend.
00:26:42
Speaker 1: But Dinkie had other plants. He only had until sunset
00:26:48
Speaker 1: to enjoy being the biggest giraffe in the world, so
00:26:52
Speaker 1: he had to make the most of it. He whispered
00:26:56
Speaker 1: goodbye to his snoozing friends and strode his way through
00:27:01
Speaker 1: sleepy forest to enjoy the rest of his day. Dinky
00:27:07
Speaker 1: skipped happily through sleepy forest, his head bobbing above the
00:27:12
Speaker 1: treetops and his belly full of fruit. He had always
00:27:18
Speaker 1: wanted to know what the fruit at the top of
00:27:21
Speaker 1: the trees tasted like, and now he knew. The bananas
00:27:26
Speaker 1: had not disappointed him. Dinky eventually found himself in a
00:27:33
Speaker 1: dense grassy clearing in the middle of Sleepy Forest. The
00:27:38
Speaker 1: sunlight was streaming down without any trees to cast shade
00:27:43
Speaker 1: on the ground, and in the middle Dinky noticed a
00:27:49
Speaker 1: mighty strong gorilla sunbathing. Hello, mister gorilla, Thinky greeted him.
00:27:59
Speaker 1: The hairy gorilla opened his eyes to see who had
00:28:02
Speaker 1: called to him and gasped when he saw Dinky. The
00:28:07
Speaker 1: gorilla sat up straight and commented in a deep, husky voice, My,
00:28:15
Speaker 1: oh my, you might be the biggest giraffe I've ever seen.
00:28:22
Speaker 1: Dinkie smiled proudly and introduced himself. The gorilla responded that
00:28:30
Speaker 1: his name was Thumper. That's an unusual name. Dinkie thought aloud.
00:28:39
Speaker 1: Why are you called Thumper? Your want to talk Thumper?
00:28:46
Speaker 1: The gorilla answered back, why are you called Dinky when
00:28:52
Speaker 1: you're so tall? Dinkie giggled. Thumper had a point. It
00:29:00
Speaker 1: was rather silly of him to be called Dinky now
00:29:03
Speaker 1: that he was much taller than every other creature in
00:29:07
Speaker 1: Sleepy Forest. Thumper asked if Dinkie would like to relax
00:29:13
Speaker 1: with him, and Dinky agreed. He was feeling quite full
00:29:18
Speaker 1: after eating so much fruit, and he was feeling pretty
00:29:23
Speaker 1: tired after walking for so long. Besides, it wasn't every
00:29:29
Speaker 1: day that a gorilla invited you to hang out with them.
00:29:34
Speaker 1: The gorillas didn't normally associate with many other animals. They
00:29:40
Speaker 1: tended to keep to themselves. As Dinkie and Thumper sat
00:29:47
Speaker 1: in the grass and got to know each other, Dinkie
00:29:52
Speaker 1: discovered why the gorillas tended to be solitary animals. Thumper explained,
00:30:00
Speaker 1: everyone thinks that because I'm so big that I'm not
00:30:05
Speaker 1: very friendly. Not many animals want to play with me
00:30:11
Speaker 1: because I'm so much bigger than them, But I'm just
00:30:16
Speaker 1: the same as everyone else. I want to join in
00:30:21
Speaker 1: the front two. Dinky felt sorry for Thumper and replied, well,
00:30:29
Speaker 1: don't worry, I'll play with you. I'm even bigger than
00:30:34
Speaker 1: you are, so it's no problem for me. Thumper's eyes
00:30:40
Speaker 1: grew wide with pleasure. It had been a long time
00:30:44
Speaker 1: since anyone had wanted to play with him. Little did
00:30:49
Speaker 1: Thumper know that it would be a special occasion for
00:30:53
Speaker 1: Dinky too. Dinky was usually too small to play with
00:30:58
Speaker 1: bigger animals like, but today he had the opportunity. The
00:31:06
Speaker 1: pair of new found friends played together for hours. They
00:31:12
Speaker 1: chased each other, playing tag and hide and seek, although
00:31:18
Speaker 1: neither of them was particularly good at hiding. They learned
00:31:23
Speaker 1: chance and practiced some handclap games, and even choreographed a
00:31:29
Speaker 1: little dance together. They had a jolly good time. After
00:31:35
Speaker 1: a while, Thumper the gorilla grew tired and laid back
00:31:40
Speaker 1: down in the grass to enjoy the last of the
00:31:43
Speaker 1: day sunlight. Dinkie looked at the sky and became aware
00:31:50
Speaker 1: of how the day had slipped away from him. Sunset
00:31:56
Speaker 1: wasn't far off, and he only had a limited amount
00:31:59
Speaker 1: of time left as the biggest giraffe in the world.
00:32:05
Speaker 1: I've got to go now, Dinky informed Thumper, but I'll
00:32:11
Speaker 1: see you soon and we can play together again, although
00:32:17
Speaker 1: I might look a little bit different the next time
00:32:20
Speaker 1: you see me. Thumper waved goodbye to his new friend
00:32:26
Speaker 1: from his comfy bed in the long grass, and Dinky
00:32:30
Speaker 1: made his way back through sleepy forest. Dink he needed
00:32:36
Speaker 1: to make sure that he was close to home for
00:32:40
Speaker 1: when the sunset and bedtime came. He made his way
00:32:45
Speaker 1: through sleepy forest, feeling sleepier with every step. It took
00:32:51
Speaker 1: a lot of energy to move such a big body,
00:32:56
Speaker 1: Dinky's usual small frame was much slighter to carry. Something
00:33:03
Speaker 1: that Dinkie had always wondered about was where the sun
00:33:08
Speaker 1: went when it set behind the mountain. Did the sun
00:33:13
Speaker 1: have a cozy bed in the sky that it disappeared into,
00:33:18
Speaker 1: or did the sun live in a house hidden behind
00:33:21
Speaker 1: the mountain. Dinkie wanted to find out, and today he
00:33:28
Speaker 1: had the perfect opportunity to do so. Dinkie walked all
00:33:34
Speaker 1: the way to the base of the mountain which the
00:33:37
Speaker 1: sun set behind every evening. The sun was already low
00:33:43
Speaker 1: in the sky and was beginning to slowly glide through
00:33:47
Speaker 1: the air, getting lower and lower with each passing minute.
00:33:55
Speaker 1: The bright blue sky was now purple, and the once
00:34:00
Speaker 1: bright white sun was now a creamy orange color, flickering
00:34:07
Speaker 1: with only a few gentle pulses of light. Nighttime would
00:34:13
Speaker 1: soon be here and Dinkie would return to his normal
00:34:18
Speaker 1: mini size again. Despite how much fun he had had today,
00:34:25
Speaker 1: Dinkie was looking forward to being himself again. One day
00:34:32
Speaker 1: he would be as tall as all the other giraffes
00:34:36
Speaker 1: and be able to eat the high fruit and play
00:34:40
Speaker 1: with the bigger animals. But there were things that he
00:34:44
Speaker 1: liked about being small. He enjoyed eating the berries on
00:34:50
Speaker 1: the bushes that he was currently too tall to stoop
00:34:54
Speaker 1: down and search for. He liked playing with his friends,
00:34:59
Speaker 1: who was smaller in size to him, and he liked
00:35:04
Speaker 1: being as light as a feather. It meant that he
00:35:08
Speaker 1: could run around as much as he wanted without getting
00:35:12
Speaker 1: tired think. He watched the sun start to disappear over
00:35:20
Speaker 1: the side of the mountain, and he craned his neck
00:35:24
Speaker 1: to witness where it went. He was so tall that
00:35:31
Speaker 1: with a bit of a push, he could see over
00:35:34
Speaker 1: the side of the mountain to what was on the
00:35:37
Speaker 1: other side. To his surprise, he didn't see a bed
00:35:45
Speaker 1: in the sky or a little house where the sun lived.
00:35:51
Speaker 1: He just saw a long stretch of land reaching all
00:35:56
Speaker 1: the way out to the sea. Dinkie had never known
00:36:02
Speaker 1: that there was a sea near Sleepy Forest, but now
00:36:06
Speaker 1: he did, although it would take a very long time
00:36:11
Speaker 1: to walk there. Dinkie continued to watch the sun as
00:36:18
Speaker 1: it floated down through the sky and disappeared over the
00:36:23
Speaker 1: horizon past the furthest point of the sea. Darkness fell
00:36:33
Speaker 1: upon Sleepy Forest and the land beyond, and Dinkie let
00:36:40
Speaker 1: out a big yawn. He looked down at his body,
00:36:46
Speaker 1: expecting to see it shrink, but it was exactly the
00:36:51
Speaker 1: same as before. He was still the biggest giraffe in
00:36:57
Speaker 1: the world. How was he going to fit into his
00:37:02
Speaker 1: bed if he stayed the same size all night? But
00:37:09
Speaker 1: just at that moment, a familiar voice appeared out of nowhere.
00:37:16
Speaker 1: He turned his head to see Frisier the Fairy, fluttering
00:37:21
Speaker 1: her wings next to him. Hello again, Thinkie, she greeted him.
00:37:29
Speaker 1: Have you had a good day? Did you like your wish? Think?
00:37:35
Speaker 1: He nodded his head let out another big yawn. He
00:37:42
Speaker 1: had had a wonderful day, all thanks to her magic.
00:37:51
Speaker 1: Friser was pleased to hear that he had enjoyed it,
00:37:55
Speaker 1: and asked him if he would like to stay as
00:37:58
Speaker 1: the biggest giraffe in the world for an extra day.
00:38:04
Speaker 1: She would be happy to grant him one more wish
00:38:07
Speaker 1: if he wanted it think. He was grateful for her offer,
00:38:14
Speaker 1: but he politely declined. He missed being his little old self,
00:38:22
Speaker 1: and all that he wanted more than anything right now
00:38:27
Speaker 1: was to curl up in his comfy, small bed with
00:38:32
Speaker 1: his parents. Frisia smiled, waved her wander in the air,
00:38:41
Speaker 1: and gently tapped the top of Dinkie's head. Sparkles of
00:38:47
Speaker 1: light fluttered across his head, trickled down his neck, spread
00:38:55
Speaker 1: over his body, and cascaded all the way down his
00:39:01
Speaker 1: tail and legs to his feet. His body felt warm
00:39:08
Speaker 1: and fuzzy, and he closed his eyes as his body
00:39:13
Speaker 1: felt like it was melting into a puddle. Think he
00:39:20
Speaker 1: was his small self again. He thanked Friezier for her generosity,
00:39:27
Speaker 1: and she wished him good night before flying off into
00:39:33
Speaker 1: the night sky. Think. He made the short walk home
00:39:39
Speaker 1: to his family, yawning all the way. When he eventually
00:39:47
Speaker 1: reached his home, his mother had already prepared his bed
00:39:53
Speaker 1: for him, and his father had brewed him a cup
00:39:57
Speaker 1: of hot chocolate, just like always, But Dinkie was so
00:40:05
Speaker 1: tired tonight that he didn't need a drink. He promptly
00:40:11
Speaker 1: kissed his parents on the cheek and snuggled himself into
00:40:17
Speaker 1: his beloved bed. His mother tucked him under the douve
00:40:23
Speaker 1: covers and kissed his forehead. Think. He wondered whether he
00:40:30
Speaker 1: would tell his parents about his magical adventure in the morning.
00:40:37
Speaker 1: They might think he was just dreaming it all up,
00:40:42
Speaker 1: but Dinky knew the truth. He had enjoyed a taste
00:40:47
Speaker 1: of what it would be like to be a tall giraffe,
00:40:52
Speaker 1: and one day he would enjoy those escapades every day.
00:41:00
Speaker 1: For now, Dinkie was perfectly content being his young minny self,
00:41:08
Speaker 1: enjoying all of the fun, special things that he only
00:41:14
Speaker 1: got to do while he was a child and dinky
00:41:20
Speaker 1: in stature,
