Speaker 1: the supercast link in the show notes. Anyway, here's a
00:00:25
Speaker 1: preview of this very special episode. Over the months, Frieda
00:00:37
Speaker 1: had become particularly skilled with her paintbrush, and, to her
00:00:40
Speaker 1: mother's horror, a little lazy. Frieda has learned, for example,
00:00:45
Speaker 1: that it's far easier to sit upstairs in the comfort
00:00:48
Speaker 1: of her bedroom and simply paint a fresh loaf of
00:00:51
Speaker 1: bread than it is to go downstairs and make one
00:00:54
Speaker 1: if it's cold and raining. Rather than go outside to
00:00:58
Speaker 1: feed the pony, she just paints food into their hay
00:01:01
Speaker 1: NEETs and buckets, leaning out of the window and giving
00:01:04
Speaker 1: them away even a smile. Freda has even discovered, and
00:01:10
Speaker 1: this was something her teacher, Miss Pennifeather didn't realize for
00:01:13
Speaker 1: many weeks, that if she just paints a picture of
00:01:16
Speaker 1: a workbook and then neatly paints onto the cover finished homework,
00:01:22
Speaker 1: she can bring it to life and have something to
00:01:23
Speaker 1: hand in at school. When your marks go from decidedly
00:01:28
Speaker 1: average to suddenly top of the class every single time,
00:01:32
Speaker 1: people notice, it seems Freda's paintbrush was determined to make
00:01:38
Speaker 1: sure Freda didn't become too lazy because it and it
00:01:42
Speaker 1: alone tripped her up. It deliberately produced workbooks with handwriting
00:01:48
Speaker 1: that changed every single time. It doesn't take an eagle
00:01:53
Speaker 1: eyed teacher such as Miss Pennifeather long to realize what
00:01:57
Speaker 1: was going on, but she bided her time and waited
00:02:01
Speaker 1: to see how long Frieda thought she could get away
00:02:04
Speaker 1: with it. Freda's mother had already been called into the
00:02:09
Speaker 1: school once to talk about this problem of magic paintbrush
00:02:12
Speaker 1: induced laziness, and it had resulted in the suggestion that
00:02:17
Speaker 1: Freda go into the past. That had worked for a while,
00:02:21
Speaker 1: providing an educational visit at the same time as making
00:02:25
Speaker 1: use of her magic skills. Well after her mother had
00:02:30
Speaker 1: been called into school again, Freda's paintbrush was promptly banned.
00:02:35
Speaker 1: Her mother took it away and locked it in the safe.
00:02:40
Speaker 1: Although Freda was doing better and better at the School
00:02:43
Speaker 1: of Magic with or without the assistance of the paintbrush,
00:02:46
Speaker 1: her mother was confident that she would never crack the safe,
00:02:50
Speaker 1: which had been sealed with centuries of magic spells, and
00:02:54
Speaker 1: she was absolutely right. Over the weeks and months that followed,
00:03:00
Speaker 1: Frieda remembered what life was like before the paintbrush appeared.
00:03:04
Speaker 1: Bella the pony did too, and actually found it quite
00:03:08
Speaker 1: refreshing to plot back and forth between home and school
00:03:12
Speaker 1: rather than getting dressed in all those dazzling colors and flying. Instead,
00:03:18
Speaker 1: she found she had missed the hedgerows and dabbling her
00:03:21
Speaker 1: hoofs in the cool waters of the stream, and she
00:03:25
Speaker 1: once more said hello to her friends in the fields
00:03:28
Speaker 1: and winnied a neigh does she pass by? The ponies
00:03:33
Speaker 1: in the paddock back at home were glad to see
00:03:35
Speaker 1: Bella back in normal horse form all the time, because,
00:03:39
Speaker 1: although they'd become used to her spots and tail and
00:03:42
Speaker 1: wings when she was in painter saurus mode, Bella was
00:03:46
Speaker 1: a lot more fun when she was just a pony.
00:03:49
Speaker 1: Nobody could roll in the mud as well as Bella.
00:03:53
Speaker 1: Frieda remembered what it was like endlessly washing and brushing
00:03:58
Speaker 1: and cleaning the little pony, and life soon returned to normal.
00:04:04
Speaker 1: Normal life wasn't so very terrible, Frida decided, and the day,
00:04:09
Speaker 1: her mother asked her to head over to the little
00:04:11
Speaker 1: village of Lost to pick up some sugar to make
00:04:14
Speaker 1: a pie, and Freda cheerfully jumped onto her bright red
00:04:17
Speaker 1: bicycle and pedaled off down the lane without a single complaint.
00:04:22
Speaker 1: Her mother knew she was cured. There were a lot
00:04:25
Speaker 1: of discussions between Freda's parents, and they even visited the
00:04:30
Speaker 1: school to chat with Miss Pennyfeather, and in the end,
00:04:34
Speaker 1: they decided Freda should really only have access to the
00:04:37
Speaker 1: paint brush for week ends and emergencies. They weren't quite
00:04:42
Speaker 1: sure what emergencies entailed, but it felt like a sensible
00:04:46
Speaker 1: rule to add in Listen to the full episode by
