Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome back to Kuala Moon, a podcast of

00:00:14

Speaker 1: original children's bedtime stories and meditations designed to make bedtime

00:00:19

Speaker 1: a dream. The team and I here at Sleepaheq know

00:00:25

Speaker 1: just how much you all love animals, dogs especially, and

00:00:29

Speaker 1: tonight we have a very special story in store for you.

00:00:34

Speaker 1: It features not one, not two, but three dogs, and

00:00:41

Speaker 1: one of them is a puppy cute. Yes, it's a

00:00:45

Speaker 1: seriously heartwarming tale that stars a little boy who you

00:00:48

Speaker 1: may remember for his marvelously messy ways at school. If

00:00:53

Speaker 1: you recall the story Marlon makes a Mess, you'll know

00:00:56

Speaker 1: who it is that helps him get creative with cleaning

00:00:59

Speaker 1: up after himself. It's his trusty dog Rex. Well, tonight,

00:01:06

Speaker 1: we're going to meet Rex when he was a brand

00:01:08

Speaker 1: new tiny puppy. When Rex ventures out for his very

00:01:13

Speaker 1: first walk, he makes several exciting discoveries and bumps into

00:01:18

Speaker 1: two dogs that you've certainly heard of before. I wonder

00:01:23

Speaker 1: if you can guess which couple of famous furry friends

00:01:27

Speaker 1: turn up on his walk. Okay, jump into bed, snuggle

00:01:33

Speaker 1: up tight, and take some relaxing deep breaths as I

00:01:37

Speaker 1: start tonight's story called Hector and Sonny Meet Rex the

00:01:43

Speaker 1: Puppy written by Alicia Ainslie. The first day that Rex

00:01:55

Speaker 1: the Puppy set foot in his new home, he knew

00:01:58

Speaker 1: he was going to love him there. Rex was one

00:02:02

Speaker 1: of fourteen puppies when he was born, and he was

00:02:04

Speaker 1: always fighting for attention from his mother and his human owners.

00:02:09

Speaker 1: Rex was only small, much smaller than the rest of

00:02:12

Speaker 1: his brothers and sisters, so he rarely got a look.

00:02:15

Speaker 1: In the day that their big doggie family was visited

00:02:19

Speaker 1: by people from the outside world, Rex knew that this

00:02:24

Speaker 1: was his opportunity to find his new forever family. One

00:02:30

Speaker 1: by one, people came and cuddled and played with Rex

00:02:33

Speaker 1: and his siblings. All fourteen of them scrabbled and yipped excitedly,

00:02:39

Speaker 1: desperate for the attention of the interesting new humans that

00:02:43

Speaker 1: they were meeting. All of the people were very nice,

00:02:48

Speaker 1: but there was one person in particular that Rex especially admired.

00:02:55

Speaker 1: While most of the humans came in pairs or brought

00:02:58

Speaker 1: their children along to the is it the puppies, there

00:03:01

Speaker 1: was one lady who came on her own. She had

00:03:05

Speaker 1: kind eyes and a big smile, and the moment that

00:03:09

Speaker 1: Rex saw her, he knew that she was the person

00:03:13

Speaker 1: that he wanted to go home with. Thankfully, the feeling

00:03:18

Speaker 1: was mutual, and the woman with kind Eyes loved Rex

00:03:23

Speaker 1: just as much as he adored her. They gently played

00:03:27

Speaker 1: together and she let Rex climb up on her knees

00:03:31

Speaker 1: to lick her face. Eventually, Rex curled up in her

00:03:36

Speaker 1: lap and snoozed away sweetly after using up so much energy.

00:03:43

Speaker 1: The Lady with the Kind Eyes was besotted there, and

00:03:48

Speaker 1: then three weeks later, Rex was heading to his new

00:03:56

Speaker 1: home with his new family. Rex could tell that he

00:04:00

Speaker 1: and the lady were going to be the best of friends,

00:04:04

Speaker 1: and he sat in a comfortable bed in the back

00:04:07

Speaker 1: seat of her car. Little did Rex know then that

00:04:12

Speaker 1: he was going to make lots of new best friends

00:04:15

Speaker 1: in the care of his new loving family. When he

00:04:19

Speaker 1: arrived at his new house, Rex was introduced to his

00:04:24

Speaker 1: brand new fluffy bed in the corner of the kitchen

00:04:29

Speaker 1: and his sparkling clean water bowl and food bowl by

00:04:33

Speaker 1: the back door. There was a box of toys waiting

00:04:38

Speaker 1: for him to play with, and he quickly got stuck in,

00:04:42

Speaker 1: finding a fuzzy, squeaky pig that he delighted in playing

00:04:47

Speaker 1: with for hours. Rex was getting comfortable in his new

00:04:52

Speaker 1: home when he heard the doorbell ring. Somebody must be visiting.

00:05:00

Speaker 1: The lady with her kind eyes closed the door to

00:05:03

Speaker 1: the kitchen, keeping Rex inside, and went to the front

00:05:07

Speaker 1: door to open it. Rex couldn't understand why he had

00:05:12

Speaker 1: been left behind. He was desperate to meet whoever was visiting.

00:05:19

Speaker 1: Rex heard footsteps pattered down the corridor back to the

00:05:24

Speaker 1: kitchen door, and he sat down on his bottom and

00:05:28

Speaker 1: waited like a good boy. His tail swished from side

00:05:33

Speaker 1: to side, sweeping the floor with his soft red and

00:05:38

Speaker 1: white fur. He heard the voice of the kind lady

00:05:43

Speaker 1: speaking to some one. I've got a surprise for you,

00:05:48

Speaker 1: she said. As the kitchen door began to crack open.

00:05:54

Speaker 1: Rex couldn't wait any longer, and he rushed forward and

00:05:58

Speaker 1: peeked his nose through the gap in the door, sniffing

00:06:01

Speaker 1: the air with his snuffly nose a puppy. A new

00:06:07

Speaker 1: voice cried from behind the door. Rex wriggled his little

00:06:12

Speaker 1: body through the gap and pushed the door open. He

00:06:17

Speaker 1: dashed forward and found that two people were standing on

00:06:21

Speaker 1: the other side. There was the lady with the kind

00:06:24

Speaker 1: eyes and a little boy. The little boy's eyes grew

00:06:31

Speaker 1: wide and he squealed with excitement. Rex jumped up at

00:06:37

Speaker 1: the boy, pouring at his legs. He was so enthusiastic

00:06:41

Speaker 1: to meet even more people. The little boy bent down

00:06:47

Speaker 1: to Rex's level and attempted to stroke Rex's fur, but

00:06:52

Speaker 1: Rex was hard to catch, as he was so full

00:06:55

Speaker 1: of beans that he kept running around and around in

00:06:59

Speaker 1: circles and jumping up at everyone with exhilaration. The little

00:07:05

Speaker 1: boy and the lady laughed with joy as they watched

00:07:08

Speaker 1: Rex's eager display. The lady with the kind eyes laughed

00:07:16

Speaker 1: and said to the boy, Marlon, this is Rex. He

00:07:22

Speaker 1: is your new puppy. I love him, proclaimed Marlon. Rex

00:07:31

Speaker 1: lay down on his back and Marlon started tickling his belly.

00:07:37

Speaker 1: Rex shimmered from side to side happily and kept knocking

00:07:42

Speaker 1: himself over with his super waggly tail. Rex felt so

00:07:47

Speaker 1: lucky to have two members of his new family, Marlon,

00:07:52

Speaker 1: the little boy and his mother. Marlon was clearly just

00:07:58

Speaker 1: as happy as Rex was, and declared that Rex would

00:08:02

Speaker 1: be his best body. They would go on walks together

00:08:07

Speaker 1: every day and Marlon would teach Rex lots of cool tricks.

00:08:15

Speaker 1: Marlon's mother smiled but explained, that's lovely, darling, but you

00:08:21

Speaker 1: can't take Rex. For a walk just yet. He needs

00:08:25

Speaker 1: to get a little bit older first. When he's fourteen

00:08:29

Speaker 1: weeks old, we can take him for his very first

00:08:32

Speaker 1: walk outside. Rex was disappointed that he couldn't venture outside

00:08:39

Speaker 1: straight away, but he could tell that the day of

00:08:44

Speaker 1: his first ever walk in public would be very special.

00:08:51

Speaker 1: In the meantime, Rex spent every day getting to know

00:08:55

Speaker 1: his new family. As promised, Marlon talkedrought him several new

00:09:01

Speaker 1: tricks in exchange for delicious treats. Rex learnt how to

00:09:06

Speaker 1: sit down on command and give Marlon a high five.

00:09:12

Speaker 1: He learned how to lie down and spin around on

00:09:15

Speaker 1: the spot. Rex was a quick learner. Rex adored living

00:09:23

Speaker 1: with his new family, and every day was full of

00:09:28

Speaker 1: laughter and joy. As the weeks went by, Rex discovered

00:09:34

Speaker 1: lots of interesting things around his new home. He discovered

00:09:39

Speaker 1: that discarded socks were his favorite thing to collect and

00:09:44

Speaker 1: hoarde in his toy box. He found that if he

00:09:48

Speaker 1: waited around in the kitchen long enough while their mother

00:09:52

Speaker 1: was cooking, then he might snag the chance to gobble

00:09:56

Speaker 1: up some human food that fell on the ground. He

00:10:01

Speaker 1: even discovered that the best freshest water in the house

00:10:06

Speaker 1: came from the toilet bowl. At least that's what he

00:10:10

Speaker 1: thought until Marlon and his mother told him that was

00:10:15

Speaker 1: yucky and started leaving the toilet seat down. Every day.

00:10:21

Speaker 1: Rex was discovering new things, but he knew that there

00:10:26

Speaker 1: was so much more to discover in the outside world.

00:10:34

Speaker 1: As the day of his fourteen week old birthday drew closer,

00:10:39

Speaker 1: Rex became more and more agitated as he eagerly awaited

00:10:44

Speaker 1: the big day's arrival. He had been dreaming of his

00:10:50

Speaker 1: first walk outside since the day he was brought home

00:10:55

Speaker 1: to his new family, and he could hardly wait. The

00:11:01

Speaker 1: night before he turned fourteen weeks old, Marlon ushered Rex

00:11:07

Speaker 1: to join him as he climbed into bed. Rex hopped

00:11:13

Speaker 1: up onto the end of Marlon's bed and curled his

00:11:17

Speaker 1: little body up into a comfy position. Marlon gazed at

00:11:23

Speaker 1: Rex all cozy and snuggled up and ruffled the fur

00:11:28

Speaker 1: on his back. He whispered, Tomorrow is a big day, Rex,

00:11:36

Speaker 1: You're going to go for your very first walk outside.

00:11:42

Speaker 1: I'm going to take you to the park, and it's

00:11:46

Speaker 1: going to be so much fun. You don't need to

00:11:50

Speaker 1: be nervous. Rex looked up at Marlon with his puppy

00:11:55

Speaker 1: dog eyes. He knew that Marlon would take good care

00:11:59

Speaker 1: of him, but he was a little bit nervous about

00:12:03

Speaker 1: going somewhere he'd never been before. However, he knew that

00:12:08

Speaker 1: with Marlon by his side, he would be fine. Rex

00:12:13

Speaker 1: woke up the next morning full of energy. He whizzed

00:12:18

Speaker 1: and wove around the house, trying to burn off all

00:12:22

Speaker 1: his built up energy. Today was the big day and

00:12:27

Speaker 1: he couldn't wait to get going. Marlon and his mother

00:12:34

Speaker 1: watched Rex race around the house and they laughed. Marlon's

00:12:40

Speaker 1: mother commented that it was a good job that Rex

00:12:43

Speaker 1: could go for a walk and a run outside. Now

00:12:47

Speaker 1: he was getting far too restless. Stuck inside the house,

00:12:54

Speaker 1: Rex waited and waited, and eventually Marlon and his mother

00:13:03

Speaker 1: were ready to go. Rex, it's time for a walk.

00:13:09

Speaker 1: Marlon's mother yodled out into the house. Rex ran as

00:13:16

Speaker 1: fast as his little legs could carry him to find her.

00:13:21

Speaker 1: When he reached her, he noticed that she was holding

00:13:25

Speaker 1: a long blue rope in her hands. What could that

00:13:30

Speaker 1: be for, Rex, wondered. Marlon's mother taught him how to

00:13:37

Speaker 1: attach the blue rope to Rex's collar while Rex sat

00:13:41

Speaker 1: down patiently. Apparently, the strange rope device was called a lead,

00:13:49

Speaker 1: and it would make sure that Rex didn't run away

00:13:52

Speaker 1: or get lost while they were outside. The lead felt

00:13:57

Speaker 1: strange to Rex at first, and he kept tripping over

00:14:01

Speaker 1: it and getting it tangled around his little legs, but

00:14:05

Speaker 1: once they all stepped outside of the house and walked

00:14:09

Speaker 1: out into the street, Rex quickly got used to it.

00:14:15

Speaker 1: Despite his eagerness, Rex was still slightly nervous about being

00:14:21

Speaker 1: outside for the first time. He had never seen these

00:14:26

Speaker 1: streets before, and the last time he had seen a

00:14:30

Speaker 1: car was when he was sitting inside it being brought home.

00:14:36

Speaker 1: Watching lots of fast moving cars whoosh past them was

00:14:42

Speaker 1: a little unnerving, but Marlon reassured Rex and kept him

00:14:48

Speaker 1: moving forward. Rex looked around and took in the amazing

00:14:55

Speaker 1: sights of the outside world, the car and the people

00:15:01

Speaker 1: passing by, the tall houses and the lumbering trees. The

00:15:09

Speaker 1: concrete pavement felt funny beneath his little paws. He was

00:15:14

Speaker 1: used to pottering around on fuzzy carpets in the house

00:15:19

Speaker 1: or the soft grass in the garden, so concrete felt

00:15:24

Speaker 1: pretty rough underneath his tiny paws. The world outside was

00:15:33

Speaker 1: also noisier than Rex was used to. All of the

00:15:38

Speaker 1: vehicles on the road roomed and zoomed, and bicycles rang

00:15:44

Speaker 1: their jingling bells and were the spokes of their wheels.

00:15:51

Speaker 1: Pigeons cooed from up on the roofs, and squirrels chattered

00:15:57

Speaker 1: from the branches of the odd tree in the front

00:15:59

Speaker 1: gard garden. The air was filled with the humming of

00:16:05

Speaker 1: life and the bustle of people. Rex was beginning to

00:16:11

Speaker 1: realize that it was much more peaceful back at home.

00:16:18

Speaker 1: Just as Rex was starting to think that maybe the

00:16:23

Speaker 1: outside world wasn't as great as he had cracked it

00:16:26

Speaker 1: up to be, Marlon's mother guided them all across the

00:16:31

Speaker 1: road and towards a large iron gate with tall hedges

00:16:36

Speaker 1: on either side. She pushed the gate open, and it

00:16:41

Speaker 1: squeaked and creaked heavily as they all walked through. When

00:16:47

Speaker 1: he saw what was on the other side of the gate,

00:16:51

Speaker 1: Rex couldn't believe his eyes. Ahead of him was a

00:16:58

Speaker 1: ginormous feeling of grass, surrounded by trees and plants. The

00:17:05

Speaker 1: loud noises of the street behind them faded away, and

00:17:10

Speaker 1: instead here it was peaceful and serene. The only sounds

00:17:17

Speaker 1: that Rex could hear were the buzzing of bees in

00:17:21

Speaker 1: the flower beds. Tweeting birds soaring through the air, and

00:17:28

Speaker 1: the wind rustling through the trees. There were other humans

00:17:34

Speaker 1: and their dogs playing in the field with toys that

00:17:38

Speaker 1: Rex had never seen before. The toys flew through the

00:17:43

Speaker 1: air at super fast speeds, and the dogs all chased

00:17:48

Speaker 1: after them, jumping and catching them in their mouths. Some

00:17:55

Speaker 1: dogs ran around together, chasing one another and rolling around

00:18:00

Speaker 1: in the blades of grass. Others cheerfully potted around, sniffing

00:18:06

Speaker 1: the flowers and digging at the roots of the tall trees.

00:18:11

Speaker 1: Rex felt exhilarated. It was like a utopia for dogs.

00:18:19

Speaker 1: Rex tugged and pulled at his leash, yearning to break

00:18:23

Speaker 1: free and run around. Marlon and his mother could see

00:18:30

Speaker 1: how much Rex was itching to be let off the leash.

00:18:35

Speaker 1: They walked Rex around the edge of the park and

00:18:39

Speaker 1: over to a quiet spot of grass. Here there were

00:18:44

Speaker 1: fewer distractions and there was more space for Rex to

00:18:49

Speaker 1: roam around freely. Rex sat perfectly and patiently, staring at

00:18:58

Speaker 1: his family, begging them to let him loose. His tail

00:19:04

Speaker 1: wagged back and forth with anticipation, and he panted with enthusiasm.

00:19:12

Speaker 1: Marlon's mother leant down and unbuckled the leash from Rex's collar. Now, Rex,

00:19:20

Speaker 1: she explained to him, calmly, go have fun and explore.

00:19:27

Speaker 1: Just make sure that you stay close by where we

00:19:30

Speaker 1: can see you. Rex's eyes sparkled with cheer, and he

00:19:36

Speaker 1: looked around and sure of where to begin. There were

00:19:41

Speaker 1: so many things he could do and so many other

00:19:45

Speaker 1: dogs to meet, that he didn't know where to start.

00:19:50

Speaker 1: Rex began to bound around the grass, feeling the soft

00:19:55

Speaker 1: earth beneath his paws. It felt so much better than

00:20:01

Speaker 1: the hard concrete pavement they had been walking along before.

00:20:06

Speaker 1: He bounced and tumbled around the field, feeling his legs

00:20:12

Speaker 1: flop about with childish abandon. As Rex ran around the grass,

00:20:19

Speaker 1: he felt like he had so much space to move.

00:20:24

Speaker 1: All he had experienced so far in his life was

00:20:28

Speaker 1: the fenced in grass of their garden, but here at

00:20:33

Speaker 1: the park there was more grass to run through than

00:20:38

Speaker 1: Rex could have ever imagined. He felt free. He looked

00:20:45

Speaker 1: around the park and saw so many new animals to meet. There,

00:20:52

Speaker 1: of course, were lots of other dogs to befriend, but

00:20:56

Speaker 1: there were also lots of new flying bugs, bustling birds,

00:21:01

Speaker 1: and prowling cats. As Rex ran past the trees, he

00:21:08

Speaker 1: spotted something rummaging in a bush. He stopped in his

00:21:13

Speaker 1: tracks and waited eagerly. All of a sudden, two tall,

00:21:21

Speaker 1: fluffy ears poked up out of the leaves, and a

00:21:25

Speaker 1: little pointed white face peered out from the bush. The

00:21:30

Speaker 1: creature snuffled its nose and twitched its whiskers. Then, spotting Rex,

00:21:38

Speaker 1: it turned on its big feet and ran off into

00:21:40

Speaker 1: the trees behind, wiggling its fluffy pompom tail behind it.

00:21:47

Speaker 1: It was a bunny. Rex had never seen a bunny

00:21:52

Speaker 1: rabbit in real life before. He was so excited and

00:21:57

Speaker 1: eager to say hello, that he chased after the bunny rabbit. Excitedly.

00:22:04

Speaker 1: He gallovanted through the grass and bounded through the bushes,

00:22:10

Speaker 1: running and running until his feet stopped feeling the soft

00:22:15

Speaker 1: blades of grass beneath them anymore, and instead felt dusty,

00:22:21

Speaker 1: bare earth beneath his paws. Rex stopped in his tracks

00:22:26

Speaker 1: and looked around him. He had lost sight of the

00:22:30

Speaker 1: bunny rabbit, and he wasn't in the open air of

00:22:34

Speaker 1: the field anymore. Instead, he was under the cover of

00:22:40

Speaker 1: the trees that lined the outside of the park. Oh oh,

00:22:46

Speaker 1: Rex thought he had gotten too carried away and run

00:22:51

Speaker 1: off out of sight. Rex span around, trying to recall

00:23:00

Speaker 1: which direction he had come from, but every tree looked

00:23:05

Speaker 1: exactly the same. He couldn't see the park anymore. Rex

00:23:12

Speaker 1: sniffed the ground and tried to pick up his own

00:23:16

Speaker 1: scent to work out his way back, but he just

00:23:20

Speaker 1: found himself walking around in circles, chasing his own tail.

00:23:28

Speaker 1: Rex started to think that he needed some help and

00:23:32

Speaker 1: howled out into the trees, hoping that Marlon and his

00:23:37

Speaker 1: mother would hear his call. He waited a few seconds

00:23:44

Speaker 1: and listened, then right on queue, he heard the soft

00:23:50

Speaker 1: pattering of footsteps on the forest floor. However, when he

00:23:57

Speaker 1: looked through the trees to catch sight of Marlon and

00:24:02

Speaker 1: his mother coming to his rescue, he saw something entirely different.

00:24:09

Speaker 1: Two dogs came bounding through the trees towards him. One

00:24:16

Speaker 1: was a large golden Retriever and one was a smaller

00:24:21

Speaker 1: cocker spaniel with reddish brown fur and eyes the color

00:24:27

Speaker 1: of the sky. The golden retriever carried a stick in

00:24:32

Speaker 1: his mouth and dropped it at his feet. As they

00:24:35

Speaker 1: reached Rex's side, the cocker spaniel cocked her head to

00:24:41

Speaker 1: one side and asked, are you all right, little pup?

00:24:47

Speaker 1: The golden retriever explained that they had heard a call

00:24:51

Speaker 1: from within the forest asking for help. Rex sniffed and

00:24:58

Speaker 1: explained that he was long. It was his first time

00:25:03

Speaker 1: outside of his house, and he had run off away

00:25:07

Speaker 1: from his family. He'd gotten so carried away he wanted

00:25:13

Speaker 1: to find his way back to his family, but he

00:25:16

Speaker 1: couldn't remember which direction the park was. He told the

00:25:22

Speaker 1: dogs that he had tried to track his scent, but

00:25:26

Speaker 1: with no luck. The Golden retriever flickered his ears and

00:25:33

Speaker 1: sniffed the air. He replied, will help you find your

00:25:39

Speaker 1: way back, little pop, My nose never lets me down.

00:25:47

Speaker 1: The Golden retriever promptly placed his nose to the ground

00:25:52

Speaker 1: and began sniffing away. After a few moments of snuffling

00:25:59

Speaker 1: around the forest floor, he pricked up his head and

00:26:04

Speaker 1: declared that he had picked up Rex's scent. Rex almost

00:26:10

Speaker 1: leapt for joy, thank goodness for these kind dogs who

00:26:16

Speaker 1: had turned up to help him. The Golden retriever led

00:26:22

Speaker 1: the way, and Rex and the cocker spaniel followed behind.

00:26:29

Speaker 1: I'm Hector by the way, the bouncy Golden retriever introduced himself.

00:26:36

Speaker 1: Then the cocker spaniel added, and I'm sunny. Rex smiled

00:26:42

Speaker 1: and told them his name too. It's nice to meet

00:26:47

Speaker 1: you both, he said gratefully. The three dogs trotted through

00:26:53

Speaker 1: the forest with Hector's nose as their guide. They wove

00:26:58

Speaker 1: in and out of the trees, and soon Rex could

00:27:03

Speaker 1: see where the trees were parting and spotted the luscious

00:27:07

Speaker 1: green field beyond them. He could hear Marlin and his

00:27:13

Speaker 1: mother calling out his name as they searched for him,

00:27:18

Speaker 1: and Rex picked up the pace, running past Hector and

00:27:23

Speaker 1: towards the trees. He reached the edge of the field

00:27:28

Speaker 1: and saw his beloved family nearby. Rex felt so relieved

00:27:35

Speaker 1: to be reunited with them. He thanked Hector and Sonny

00:27:40

Speaker 1: for their assistance, and they assured him there was no

00:27:44

Speaker 1: problem at all. Rex was very lucky that they had

00:27:50

Speaker 1: heard his call. Rex didn't want to say goodbye to

00:27:55

Speaker 1: the impressive older dogs. He was sure that he could

00:28:00

Speaker 1: learn a lot from them, but he knew that he

00:28:04

Speaker 1: should return to his family before they grew worried. Rex

00:28:11

Speaker 1: asked Hector and Sonny eagerly. Do you come to the

00:28:16

Speaker 1: park often? Sonny declared that they were always around somewhere, exploring, burrowing,

00:28:25

Speaker 1: and hiding things in the ground. Maybe you could come

00:28:31

Speaker 1: on an adventure with us sometime, Sonny offered, and Rex

00:28:36

Speaker 1: nodded his head vigorously. He would love nothing more. Hector

00:28:44

Speaker 1: and Sonny also promised to show Rex around the park

00:28:49

Speaker 1: sometime so that he never got lost again. Rex was

00:28:55

Speaker 1: in awe of the pair of friends. They were so confident,

00:29:00

Speaker 1: vident and clever, and very helpful too. Rex hoped that

00:29:07

Speaker 1: he would grow up to be just like them when

00:29:10

Speaker 1: he was older. Rex heard the happy voice of Marlon

00:29:16

Speaker 1: come from behind him, and he turned around to see

00:29:21

Speaker 1: Marlon running across the grass towards him. Rex, Rex, you're here,

00:29:31

Speaker 1: Marlon called out, with his arms stretched open wide. Rex

00:29:39

Speaker 1: pounced into Marlon's arms and Marlon held him close. They

00:29:45

Speaker 1: were both relieved to have found each other again. Marlon

00:29:52

Speaker 1: asked Rex where he had been. He and his mother

00:29:58

Speaker 1: had looked for him everywhere. Rex turned and gazed at

00:30:04

Speaker 1: Hector and Sonny, and Marlon followed his gaze. Marlon sighed

00:30:12

Speaker 1: in realization. I see you've been busy making some friends,

00:30:21

Speaker 1: he smiled. Marlon thanked Hector and Sonny for looking after

00:30:28

Speaker 1: little Rex, and then he led Rex away and back

00:30:33

Speaker 1: over to their mother. Rex glanced over his shoulder and

00:30:39

Speaker 1: called out a goodbye to Hector and Sonny before they

00:30:44

Speaker 1: ran back off into the trees, no doubt, in search

00:30:48

Speaker 1: of a new adventure for the day. Marlon's mother cuddled

00:30:56

Speaker 1: Rex in her arms and reminded him not to off again.

00:31:02

Speaker 1: Rex promised that he wouldn't, although if he hadn't ventured off,

00:31:09

Speaker 1: he would have never met Hector and Sonny, so at

00:31:13

Speaker 1: least something good had come from it. Rex assumed that

00:31:19

Speaker 1: he would be put back on the leash for running off,

00:31:22

Speaker 1: but instead Marlon's mother pulled something out of her pocket.

00:31:29

Speaker 1: It was a circular toy. It was bright orange, and

00:31:34

Speaker 1: she bounced it on the ground and caught it again.

00:31:39

Speaker 1: Rex instantly became fixated on the bright bouncy toy and

00:31:46

Speaker 1: crouched down. She bounced the toy again and Rex attempted

00:31:52

Speaker 1: to snatch it in mid air, but missed. It was

00:31:56

Speaker 1: quite a slippery little thing. Then, without warning, Marlon's mother

00:32:04

Speaker 1: stood up tall and launched the toy across the grass

00:32:09

Speaker 1: away from them. Rex spun on his heels and raced

00:32:15

Speaker 1: across the grass, chasing after the toy. The circular toy

00:32:22

Speaker 1: hit the ground and boined back up into the air.

00:32:27

Speaker 1: As it hurtled towards the ground. Again, Rex picked up

00:32:31

Speaker 1: his speed and launched himself in front of it. He

00:32:37

Speaker 1: leapt up into the air and caught it in his

00:32:40

Speaker 1: mouth triumphantly. Rex felt so proud of himself and ran

00:32:47

Speaker 1: back over to Marlin and his mother, carrying the toy

00:32:51

Speaker 1: proudly in his mouth. He placed it down on the

00:32:56

Speaker 1: ground in front of them and wagged his tails, panting

00:33:01

Speaker 1: with pride. That was so fun. He wanted to do

00:33:08

Speaker 1: it again and again and again. In fact, Rex played

00:33:16

Speaker 1: with the toy, which he came to learn was called

00:33:19

Speaker 1: a ball, over and over again until he became very tired. Eventually,

00:33:30

Speaker 1: he laid his little puppy body down at Marlon's feet

00:33:35

Speaker 1: and rested his eyes sleepily. Marlon's mother scooped him up

00:33:42

Speaker 1: into her arms and cradled him like a baby. They

00:33:48

Speaker 1: all walked over to the park gate and back along

00:33:52

Speaker 1: the streets to return home. Rex had had such a

00:33:58

Speaker 1: fabulous time on his first ever walk outside, so much

00:34:05

Speaker 1: of a good time that he was too exhausted to

00:34:09

Speaker 1: walk back home. As soon as they reached their house,

00:34:17

Speaker 1: Wrecks lapped up almost a whole bowl of water and

00:34:22

Speaker 1: then curled himself up in his comfortable bed in the kitchen,

00:34:29

Speaker 1: He closed his eyes and began to drift off, happily

00:34:36

Speaker 1: dreaming of adventures in the forest with Hector and Sonny,

00:34:42

Speaker 1: and looking forward to playing in the park with Marlin

00:34:48

Speaker 1: and their mother every day from now on. N
