Speaker 1: to lick her face. Eventually, Rex curled up in her

Speaker 1: lap and snoozed away sweetly after using up so much energy.

Speaker 1: The Lady with the Kind Eyes was besotted there, and

Speaker 1: then three weeks later, Rex was heading to his new

Speaker 1: home with his new family. Rex could tell that he

Speaker 1: and the lady were going to be the best of friends,

Speaker 1: and he sat in a comfortable bed in the back

Speaker 1: seat of her car. Little did Rex know then that

Speaker 1: for him to play with, and he quickly got stuck in,

Speaker 1: finding a fuzzy, squeaky pig that he delighted in playing

Speaker 1: with for hours. Rex was getting comfortable in his new

Speaker 1: home when he heard the doorbell ring. Somebody must be visiting.

Speaker 1: The lady with her kind eyes closed the door to

Speaker 1: the kitchen, keeping Rex inside, and went to the front

Speaker 1: door to open it. Rex couldn't understand why he had

Speaker 1: been left behind. He was desperate to meet whoever was visiting.

Speaker 1: Rex heard footsteps pattered down the corridor back to the
00:05:24
Speaker 1: kitchen door, and he sat down on his bottom and
00:05:28
Speaker 1: waited like a good boy. His tail swished from side
00:05:33
Speaker 1: to side, sweeping the floor with his soft red and
00:05:38
Speaker 1: white fur. He heard the voice of the kind lady
00:05:43
Speaker 1: speaking to some one. I've got a surprise for you,

Speaker 1: she said. As the kitchen door began to crack open.

Speaker 1: Rex couldn't wait any longer, and he rushed forward and

Speaker 1: peeked his nose through the gap in the door, sniffing

Speaker 1: the air with his snuffly nose a puppy. A new
00:06:07
Speaker 1: voice cried from behind the door. Rex wriggled his little
00:06:12
Speaker 1: body through the gap and pushed the door open. He
00:06:17
Speaker 1: dashed forward and found that two people were standing on
00:06:21
Speaker 1: the other side. There was the lady with the kind
00:06:24
Speaker 1: eyes and a little boy. The little boy's eyes grew

Speaker 1: wide and he squealed with excitement. Rex jumped up at
00:06:37
Speaker 1: the boy, pouring at his legs. He was so enthusiastic
00:06:41
Speaker 1: to meet even more people. The little boy bent down
00:06:47
Speaker 1: to Rex's level and attempted to stroke Rex's fur, but
00:06:52
Speaker 1: Rex was hard to catch, as he was so full
00:06:55
Speaker 1: of beans that he kept running around and around in
00:06:59
Speaker 1: circles and jumping up at everyone with exhilaration. The little

Speaker 1: boy and the lady laughed with joy as they watched

Speaker 1: Rex's eager display. The lady with the kind eyes laughed

Speaker 1: and said to the boy, Marlon, this is Rex. He

Speaker 1: is your new puppy. I love him, proclaimed Marlon. Rex

Speaker 1: lay down on his back and Marlon started tickling his belly.

Speaker 1: Rex shimmered from side to side happily and kept knocking

Speaker 1: himself over with his super waggly tail. Rex felt so

Speaker 1: lucky to have two members of his new family, Marlon,

Speaker 1: the little boy and his mother. Marlon was clearly just

Speaker 1: as happy as Rex was, and declared that Rex would

Speaker 1: be his best body. They would go on walks together

Speaker 1: every day and Marlon would teach Rex lots of cool tricks.

Speaker 1: Marlon's mother smiled but explained, that's lovely, darling, but you

Speaker 1: can't take Rex. For a walk just yet. He needs

Speaker 1: to get a little bit older first. When he's fourteen

Speaker 1: weeks old, we can take him for his very first

Speaker 1: walk outside. Rex was disappointed that he couldn't venture outside

Speaker 1: straight away, but he could tell that the day of

Speaker 1: his first ever walk in public would be very special.

Speaker 1: In the meantime, Rex spent every day getting to know

Speaker 1: his new family. As promised, Marlon talkedrought him several new

Speaker 1: tricks in exchange for delicious treats. Rex learnt how to

Speaker 1: sit down on command and give Marlon a high five.

Speaker 1: He learned how to lie down and spin around on

Speaker 1: the spot. Rex was a quick learner. Rex adored living

Speaker 1: with his new family, and every day was full of

Speaker 1: laughter and joy. As the weeks went by, Rex discovered

Speaker 1: lots of interesting things around his new home. He discovered

Speaker 1: that discarded socks were his favorite thing to collect and

Speaker 1: hoarde in his toy box. He found that if he

Speaker 1: waited around in the kitchen long enough while their mother

Speaker 1: was cooking, then he might snag the chance to gobble

Speaker 1: up some human food that fell on the ground. He

Speaker 1: even discovered that the best freshest water in the house

Speaker 1: came from the toilet bowl. At least that's what he

Speaker 1: thought until Marlon and his mother told him that was

Speaker 1: on his back. He whispered, Tomorrow is a big day, Rex,

Speaker 1: You're going to go for your very first walk outside.

Speaker 1: I'm going to take you to the park, and it's

Speaker 1: going to be so much fun. You don't need to

Speaker 1: be nervous. Rex looked up at Marlon with his puppy

Speaker 1: dog eyes. He knew that Marlon would take good care

Speaker 1: of him, but he was a little bit nervous about

Speaker 1: going somewhere he'd never been before. However, he knew that

Speaker 1: with Marlon by his side, he would be fine. Rex

Speaker 1: woke up the next morning full of energy. He whizzed

Speaker 1: and wove around the house, trying to burn off all

Speaker 1: his built up energy. Today was the big day and

Speaker 1: he couldn't wait to get going. Marlon and his mother

Speaker 1: watched Rex race around the house and they laughed. Marlon's

Speaker 1: mother commented that it was a good job that Rex

Speaker 1: could go for a walk and a run outside. Now

Speaker 1: he was getting far too restless. Stuck inside the house,

Speaker 1: Rex waited and waited, and eventually Marlon and his mother

Speaker 1: were ready to go. Rex, it's time for a walk.

Speaker 1: Marlon's mother yodled out into the house. Rex ran as

Speaker 1: fast as his little legs could carry him to find her.

Speaker 1: When he reached her, he noticed that she was holding

Speaker 1: a long blue rope in her hands. What could that

Speaker 1: be for, Rex, wondered. Marlon's mother taught him how to

Speaker 1: attach the blue rope to Rex's collar while Rex sat
00:13:41
Speaker 1: down patiently. Apparently, the strange rope device was called a lead,

Speaker 1: and it would make sure that Rex didn't run away
00:13:52
Speaker 1: or get lost while they were outside. The lead felt
00:13:57
Speaker 1: strange to Rex at first, and he kept tripping over
00:14:01
Speaker 1: it and getting it tangled around his little legs, but
00:14:05
Speaker 1: once they all stepped outside of the house and walked
00:14:09
Speaker 1: out into the street, Rex quickly got used to it.

Speaker 1: Despite his eagerness, Rex was still slightly nervous about being
00:14:21
Speaker 1: outside for the first time. He had never seen these
00:14:26
Speaker 1: streets before, and the last time he had seen a
00:14:30
Speaker 1: car was when he was sitting inside it being brought home.

Speaker 1: Watching lots of fast moving cars whoosh past them was
00:14:42
Speaker 1: a little unnerving, but Marlon reassured Rex and kept him
00:14:48
Speaker 1: moving forward. Rex looked around and took in the amazing
00:14:55
Speaker 1: sights of the outside world, the car and the people
00:15:01
Speaker 1: passing by, the tall houses and the lumbering trees. The
00:15:09
Speaker 1: concrete pavement felt funny beneath his little paws. He was
00:15:14
Speaker 1: used to pottering around on fuzzy carpets in the house
00:15:19
Speaker 1: or the soft grass in the garden, so concrete felt
00:15:24
Speaker 1: pretty rough underneath his tiny paws. The world outside was
00:15:33
Speaker 1: also noisier than Rex was used to. All of the
00:15:38
Speaker 1: vehicles on the road roomed and zoomed, and bicycles rang
00:15:44
Speaker 1: their jingling bells and were the spokes of their wheels.

Speaker 1: Pigeons cooed from up on the roofs, and squirrels chattered
00:15:57
Speaker 1: from the branches of the odd tree in the front
00:15:59
Speaker 1: gard garden. The air was filled with the humming of
00:16:05
Speaker 1: life and the bustle of people. Rex was beginning to
00:16:11
Speaker 1: realize that it was much more peaceful back at home.

Speaker 1: Just as Rex was starting to think that maybe the

Speaker 1: outside world wasn't as great as he had cracked it

Speaker 1: up to be, Marlon's mother guided them all across the

Speaker 1: road and towards a large iron gate with tall hedges
00:16:36
Speaker 1: on either side. She pushed the gate open, and it
00:16:41
Speaker 1: squeaked and creaked heavily as they all walked through. When
00:16:47
Speaker 1: he saw what was on the other side of the gate,
00:16:51
Speaker 1: Rex couldn't believe his eyes. Ahead of him was a
00:16:58
Speaker 1: ginormous feeling of grass, surrounded by trees and plants. The

Speaker 1: loud noises of the street behind them faded away, and
00:17:10
Speaker 1: instead here it was peaceful and serene. The only sounds
00:17:17
Speaker 1: that Rex could hear were the buzzing of bees in
00:17:21
Speaker 1: the flower beds. Tweeting birds soaring through the air, and
00:17:28
Speaker 1: the wind rustling through the trees. There were other humans
00:17:34
Speaker 1: and their dogs playing in the field with toys that
00:17:38
Speaker 1: Rex had never seen before. The toys flew through the
00:17:43
Speaker 1: air at super fast speeds, and the dogs all chased
00:17:48
Speaker 1: after them, jumping and catching them in their mouths. Some
00:17:55
Speaker 1: dogs ran around together, chasing one another and rolling around
00:18:00
Speaker 1: in the blades of grass. Others cheerfully potted around, sniffing

Speaker 1: the flowers and digging at the roots of the tall trees.

Speaker 1: Rex felt exhilarated. It was like a utopia for dogs.

Speaker 1: Rex tugged and pulled at his leash, yearning to break

Speaker 1: free and run around. Marlon and his mother could see

Speaker 1: how much Rex was itching to be let off the leash.

Speaker 1: They walked Rex around the edge of the park and

Speaker 1: over to a quiet spot of grass. Here there were

Speaker 1: fewer distractions and there was more space for Rex to

Speaker 1: roam around freely. Rex sat perfectly and patiently, staring at

Speaker 1: his family, begging them to let him loose. His tail

Speaker 1: wagged back and forth with anticipation, and he panted with enthusiasm.

Speaker 1: Marlon's mother leant down and unbuckled the leash from Rex's collar. Now, Rex,

Speaker 1: she explained to him, calmly, go have fun and explore.

Speaker 1: Just make sure that you stay close by where we

Speaker 1: can see you. Rex's eyes sparkled with cheer, and he

Speaker 1: dogs to meet, that he didn't know where to start.

Speaker 1: Rex began to bound around the grass, feeling the soft

Speaker 1: earth beneath his paws. It felt so much better than

Speaker 1: the hard concrete pavement they had been walking along before.

Speaker 1: He bounced and tumbled around the field, feeling his legs

Speaker 1: flop about with childish abandon. As Rex ran around the grass,

Speaker 1: he felt like he had so much space to move.

Speaker 1: All he had experienced so far in his life was

Speaker 1: the fenced in grass of their garden, but here at

Speaker 1: the park there was more grass to run through than

Speaker 1: Rex could have ever imagined. He felt free. He looked

Speaker 1: around the park and saw so many new animals to meet. There,

Speaker 1: of course, were lots of other dogs to befriend, but

Speaker 1: there were also lots of new flying bugs, bustling birds,

Speaker 1: and prowling cats. As Rex ran past the trees, he

Speaker 1: spotted something rummaging in a bush. He stopped in his
00:21:13
Speaker 1: tracks and waited eagerly. All of a sudden, two tall,
00:21:21
Speaker 1: fluffy ears poked up out of the leaves, and a
00:21:25
Speaker 1: little pointed white face peered out from the bush. The
00:21:30
Speaker 1: creature snuffled its nose and twitched its whiskers. Then, spotting Rex,

Speaker 1: it turned on its big feet and ran off into
00:21:40
Speaker 1: the trees behind, wiggling its fluffy pompom tail behind it.

Speaker 1: It was a bunny. Rex had never seen a bunny

Speaker 1: rabbit in real life before. He was so excited and
00:21:57
Speaker 1: eager to say hello, that he chased after the bunny rabbit. Excitedly.

Speaker 1: He gallovanted through the grass and bounded through the bushes,

Speaker 1: running and running until his feet stopped feeling the soft

Speaker 1: blades of grass beneath them anymore, and instead felt dusty,

Speaker 1: bare earth beneath his paws. Rex stopped in his tracks

Speaker 1: and looked around him. He had lost sight of the
00:22:30
Speaker 1: bunny rabbit, and he wasn't in the open air of
00:22:34
Speaker 1: the field anymore. Instead, he was under the cover of
00:22:40
Speaker 1: the trees that lined the outside of the park. Oh oh,
00:22:46
Speaker 1: Rex thought he had gotten too carried away and run
00:22:51
Speaker 1: off out of sight. Rex span around, trying to recall

Speaker 1: which direction he had come from, but every tree looked
00:23:05
Speaker 1: exactly the same. He couldn't see the park anymore. Rex

Speaker 1: sniffed the ground and tried to pick up his own
00:23:16
Speaker 1: scent to work out his way back, but he just
00:23:20
Speaker 1: found himself walking around in circles, chasing his own tail.

Speaker 1: Rex started to think that he needed some help and

Speaker 1: howled out into the trees, hoping that Marlon and his
00:23:37
Speaker 1: mother would hear his call. He waited a few seconds

Speaker 1: and listened, then right on queue, he heard the soft
00:23:50
Speaker 1: pattering of footsteps on the forest floor. However, when he
00:23:57
Speaker 1: looked through the trees to catch sight of Marlon and
00:24:02
Speaker 1: his mother coming to his rescue, he saw something entirely different.

Speaker 1: Two dogs came bounding through the trees towards him. One
00:24:16
Speaker 1: was a large golden Retriever and one was a smaller
00:24:21
Speaker 1: cocker spaniel with reddish brown fur and eyes the color
00:24:27
Speaker 1: of the sky. The golden retriever carried a stick in
00:24:32
Speaker 1: his mouth and dropped it at his feet. As they
00:24:35
Speaker 1: reached Rex's side, the cocker spaniel cocked her head to
00:24:41
Speaker 1: one side and asked, are you all right, little pup?
00:24:47
Speaker 1: The golden retriever explained that they had heard a call
00:24:51
Speaker 1: from within the forest asking for help. Rex sniffed and
00:24:58
Speaker 1: explained that he was long. It was his first time
00:25:03
Speaker 1: outside of his house, and he had run off away
00:25:07
Speaker 1: from his family. He'd gotten so carried away he wanted
00:25:13
Speaker 1: to find his way back to his family, but he
00:25:16
Speaker 1: couldn't remember which direction the park was. He told the

Speaker 1: dogs that he had tried to track his scent, but
00:25:26
Speaker 1: with no luck. The Golden retriever flickered his ears and

Speaker 1: sniffed the air. He replied, will help you find your
00:25:39
Speaker 1: way back, little pop, My nose never lets me down.
00:25:47
Speaker 1: The Golden retriever promptly placed his nose to the ground
00:25:52
Speaker 1: and began sniffing away. After a few moments of snuffling
00:25:59
Speaker 1: around the forest floor, he pricked up his head and
00:26:04
Speaker 1: declared that he had picked up Rex's scent. Rex almost
00:26:10
Speaker 1: leapt for joy, thank goodness for these kind dogs who
00:26:16
Speaker 1: had turned up to help him. The Golden retriever led
00:26:22
Speaker 1: the way, and Rex and the cocker spaniel followed behind.

Speaker 1: I'm Hector by the way, the bouncy Golden retriever introduced himself.

Speaker 1: Then the cocker spaniel added, and I'm sunny. Rex smiled

Speaker 1: and told them his name too. It's nice to meet

Speaker 1: you both, he said gratefully. The three dogs trotted through
