[00:04:58] Kira yawns and stretches her way into the day.

[00:05:02] It was one of those days that she just knew would be wonderful.

[00:05:09] There was something in the air.

[00:05:11] And her big black and white panda belly was telling her that good things were coming her way.

[00:05:19] Of course, it helps that she knows it's the day that she will visit the sleepy forest Christmas fair.

[00:05:27] There can be few things more wonderful after all than walking past all those stalls piled high with cinnamon scented food and possibilities of presents and decorations for trees.

[00:05:43] It has to be today, she goes, because Coco's heading out with his friend Prickles the Hedgehog.

[00:05:49] They're off to the park to see if either of them is any good at basketball.

[00:05:54] Kira can take her time in the market choosing the perfect Christmas present for Coco.

[00:06:02] Kira picks her favourite purple bow from the table and places it just behind her ear, checking in the mirror that it is neither too straight nor too crooked, but just exactly as she liked to wear it.

[00:06:17] She takes her red bag, the one with the huge yellow circle on the side, and the writing that said,

[00:06:24] Hello Sunshine!

[00:06:26] And pops her purse inside.

[00:06:29] Kira has been saving her pocket money for weeks now, pleased with herself every time she managed to pass Papa Praline's sweet shop and not go inside,

[00:06:40] because that meant extra coins towards Coco's Christmas present.

[00:06:46] It is incredibly hard for pandas in general to pass by sweet shops, and almost impossible for Kira in particular.

[00:07:00] She's sniffed the air and smelled the toffees and chocolates, the mints and the candies,

[00:07:07] and eyed up the jars of brightly coloured wrappers, and watched as others go in and select their favourite to be weighed up on the scales.

[00:07:16] But she's not set foot inside Papa Praline's sweet shop, or Betty Badger's bakery, or even the sleepy forest, phenomenally fantastic,

[00:07:29] first-rate finest fudge emporium.

[00:07:33] Kira swings the little red bag from her paw, and hums to herself as she walks along the lane that leads to the Christmas market.

[00:07:43] The scent of roasting chestnuts pours along the lane, and her nose twitches this way and that, briefly distracted here and there by a particularly beautiful smelling rose,

[00:07:57] but always coming back to that unmistakable scent of roasting chestnuts that can only mean Christmas is near.

[00:08:09] She says a cheerful hello to each and every kookaburra she passes, and there are an awful lot of kookaburras around this morning.

[00:08:21] And every single kookaburra tells Kira their favourite joke, the ones that keep them laughing the whole day long.

[00:08:29] So, by the time she reaches the market, quite half the morning is gone.

[00:08:37] Kira's belly rumbles to remind her that she didn't have breakfast before she came out, and with it being nearly lunchtime,

[00:08:46] she steers away from the stalls filled with brightly coloured promises of presence,

[00:08:52] and instead heads towards the huge white marquee that is filled with food.

[00:09:00] She eyes up pizzas and pastas and wraps and rolls,

[00:09:07] huge bowls of soup and perfect swirls of sushi.

[00:09:12] And then, when she's beginning to think she will never be able to make up her mind,

[00:09:20] she comes to the perfect table.

[00:09:26] Spaghetti of a yeti, says the sign.

[00:09:30] And Kira spies a teeny tiny yeti standing next to a pile of bowls

[00:09:37] and a huge pot that is simmering and shimmering with spaghetti and sauce.

[00:09:44] The yeti introduces himself as Littlefoot as he doles out an extra large portion for Kira,

[00:09:53] explaining that he has travelled from the highest mountains in the north of Italy

[00:09:59] to the bluest seas of the south,

[00:10:02] finding the best spaghetti in all the land and bringing it back here to sleepy forest.

[00:10:13] Kira twirls her fork around and around in the bowl,

[00:10:18] watching the long strands of spaghetti wrap themselves up,

[00:10:23] trying to be neat but still covering her chin in bright red tomato sauce.

[00:10:30] The tiny yeti giggles and hands her a napkin,

[00:10:34] and by the time Kira has finished her spaghetti,

[00:10:38] she has worked her way through five napkins

[00:10:41] and her chin is stained positively pink by all the sauce.

[00:10:47] But it was surely the most delicious spaghetti she had ever eaten.

[00:10:53] And now, she's ready to head off and find the perfect present for Coco.

[00:11:00] She's ready, she really is.

[00:11:04] But just as she's about to leave the marquee,

[00:11:08] she spots Betty Badger along with Lavender, Ginger and Chip.

[00:11:14] They're lined up behind a table that is dressed with a bright green tablecloth

[00:11:20] and covered in baskets of buns and brownies, cookies and cakes.

[00:11:28] Sprigs of holly sit nestled between all the baskets.

[00:11:33] Snowmen made from meringues piled one atop the other seem to be watching Kira.

[00:11:40] They look so delicious, with their blue icing scarves and tiny carrot-shaped and carrot-coloured icing noses

[00:11:50] And coal-black icing eyes

[00:11:54] She almost reaches for one

[00:11:58] She's so close, her paw nearly brushes up against a meringue snowman

[00:12:04] But she shakes her head and remembers the coins in her purse, and how hard she's been saving them for Coco's present

[00:12:14] Kira walks away from the table, taking a moment to look back longingly

[00:12:22] And just as she's about to leave the big white tent, she feels a tug on her paw

[00:12:30] She looks down to see little Lavender holding up a bamboo biscuit

[00:12:38] One of Kira's absolute favourite treats

[00:12:43] Mum says to say Merry Christmas, says Lavender

[00:12:50] And Kira looks up to see Betty Badger waving at her

[00:12:56] And smiling, before turning back to her long line of customers

[00:13:02] Eager to get their hands and paws and claws on the delicious treats she sells

[00:13:09] She leans down to thank Lavender

[00:13:12] But the baby badger has gone

[00:13:15] Scurrying back to the table

[00:13:17] And straightening her special Christmas market Santa hat

[00:13:21] Ready to help her mum once more

[00:13:26] The bamboo biscuit doesn't last long

[00:13:29] No self-respecting panda will take more than a moment to eat such a treat

[00:13:35] And Kira can now add a few crumbs to her sauce-pink chin

[00:13:40] She decides to look at every single stall before choosing the perfect present for Coco

[00:13:49] And so she begins pushing her way through the crowds

[00:13:55] And waiting impatiently for her turn to see everything that's on offer

[00:14:01] It feels as if all of Sleepy Forest is here

[00:14:07] Bustling around with bulging bags

[00:14:11] And ready with a

[00:14:12] Merry Christmas!

[00:14:14] Every time they bump into someone they know

[00:14:18] There's something exciting about being part of this

[00:14:23] Everyone is here with the sole purpose

[00:14:28] To find things to make others happy

[00:14:31] And that is really a rather wonderful idea

[00:14:38] Kira looks at each and every item for sale

[00:14:42] All the while, breathing in that scent of roasting chestnuts

[00:14:48] And she makes a note in her mind

[00:14:51] Every time she sees something that she thinks Coco would love

[00:14:57] By the time she has reached the end of the market

[00:15:00] The list is twenty items long

[00:15:04] And as much as she wishes she could get every single thing for Coco

[00:15:10] It just isn't possible

[00:15:13] So she goes round again

[00:15:16] And manages to bring it down to just ten things

[00:15:21] Still too many, but better

[00:15:24] And Kira takes a deep breath

[00:15:27] And goes around one more time

[00:15:31] Thinking carefully about all that she sees

[00:15:36] She finally manages to make the list just five items long

[00:15:43] She takes the coins from her purse and counts them out

[00:15:48] Doing the sums on her fingers

[00:15:51] And working out that she has exactly what she needs

[00:15:56] And a little bit extra

[00:15:58] She smiles to herself

[00:16:01] Grips the red, hello sunshine bag in her hand

[00:16:06] And heads into the crowd for one final turn

[00:16:11] The first place she stops at

[00:16:15] Is a stall called Snaffles' Super Surprises

[00:16:22] Snaffles' golden fur gleams in the late afternoon sunshine

[00:16:27] And he is quite rushed off his feet

[00:16:31] Handing over origami frogs that were once sweet wrappers

[00:16:36] And toy cars that were once cans of soda

[00:16:40] And little baskets made from weaving together

[00:16:45] Dozens and dozens of abandoned or broken shoelaces

[00:16:52] Kira is after something else though

[00:16:55] She stands mesmerised

[00:16:59] Watching twirling, whirling coloured spinners

[00:17:03] That hang from the edges of the stall

[00:17:06] Caught in the wind and bright in the sun

[00:17:10] The reds and greens of Christmas

[00:17:14] Dancing and dazzling

[00:17:17] Once plastic bottles

[00:17:20] They are now beautiful additions to windows

[00:17:24] And Kira is sure

[00:17:27] That Coco will absolutely love one

[00:17:31] At last it's her turn

[00:17:35] And she suddenly finds it impossible to choose

[00:17:39] And in the end

[00:17:40] She closes her eyes

[00:17:43] And just points

[00:17:44] And Snaffles carefully

[00:17:47] Takes the spinner down

[00:17:49] And wraps it for safety

[00:17:51] In a few pieces of old newspaper

[00:17:53] Oh, so gently

[00:17:56] Kira places it

[00:17:59] At the bottom of her red bag

[00:18:01] And there it is

[00:18:03] Her first present for Coco

[00:18:06] Safely stowed

[00:18:08] She holds the bag in front of her now

[00:18:13] As she presses on

[00:18:14] Protecting her precious cargo

[00:18:16] From the crowds

[00:18:19] For a moment

[00:18:20] She forgets the next item on her list

[00:18:23] And then the carol singers start up once more

[00:18:27] And she remembers

[00:18:29] Following their voices

[00:18:32] As the words of silent night

[00:18:35] Drift softly through the busy market

[00:18:41] Kira edges herself

[00:18:43] Into the front of the group

[00:18:45] Who are listening to the singers

[00:18:47] The finest songbirds at the forest

[00:18:50] With nightingales

[00:18:52] Alongside canaries

[00:18:54] And warblers

[00:18:56] And meadow larks

[00:18:57] As the song ends

[00:19:00] She's ready to clap

[00:19:02] But the group launch

[00:19:04] Into jingle bells

[00:19:05] With the owl conductor

[00:19:07] Turning to the gathered crowd

[00:19:10] And encouraging them

[00:19:11] To sing along with the chorus

[00:19:14] Some goats stand to the side

[00:19:17] With bells around their necks

[00:19:19] Leaping around

[00:19:21] At exactly the right time

[00:19:24] To make the bells ring and sing

[00:19:27] Along with the songbirds

[00:19:29] And once the final trill

[00:19:33] Of the final note

[00:19:34] Is finished

[00:19:36] The crowd roars with pleasure

[00:19:38] And everyone stamps their feet

[00:19:42] And claps their hands

[00:19:44] The birds and goats

[00:19:46] Blushing and smiling shyly

[00:19:51] Kira counts out the coins

[00:19:54] Needed for the sheet music

[00:19:55] That teaches how to play jingle bells

[00:19:59] On the ukulele

[00:20:00] The perfect addition

[00:20:02] To her little red bag

[00:20:05] Of Christmas presents

[00:20:06] For Coco

[00:20:07] The next stall on her list

[00:20:11] Is manned by a particularly frantic

[00:20:14] Warthog

[00:20:15] And a very elegant peacock

[00:20:20] The warthog

[00:20:21] The warthog has a tiny snowman hat

[00:20:24] Atop her head

[00:20:25] And the peacock

[00:20:27] Somehow manages to look serious

[00:20:30] Even if he is sporting a hat

[00:20:33] Shaped exactly like a red and green

[00:20:37] Wrapped present

[00:20:38] The heavenly hat's Christmas stall

[00:20:43] Is extremely popular

[00:20:45] And Kira

[00:20:47] Once more

[00:20:48] Must wait her turn

[00:20:50] Crossing her fingers

[00:20:53] And hoping

[00:20:54] The soft blue woolly hat

[00:20:56] She is eyeing up for Coco

[00:20:58] Will still be there

[00:21:00] When she is

[00:21:01] At last

[00:21:02] Able to choose

[00:21:04] But of course

[00:21:06] It's there

[00:21:08] Waiting for her

[00:21:10] And waiting for Coco

[00:21:12] Because

[00:21:14] As we said at the beginning

[00:21:17] This was just one of those days

[00:21:20] That was always going to be wonderful

[00:21:25] He's a koala

[00:21:27] So he's always climbing things

[00:21:30] Always outdoors

[00:21:32] Explains Kira

[00:21:34] As the excitable warthog

[00:21:37] Pops the hat

[00:21:38] Into a special golden bag

[00:21:40] And seals it

[00:21:42] With a silver star

[00:21:43] And the warthog

[00:21:45] Nods her head

[00:21:46] And agrees

[00:21:48] This is the perfect present

[00:21:50] For keeping

[00:21:52] A koala's ears warm

[00:21:55] Then

[00:21:57] Kira needs to get herself

[00:21:59] All the way

[00:22:00] To the other side

[00:22:02] Of the market

[00:22:02] Where she joins a queue

[00:22:05] That wraps itself

[00:22:07] Around Christmas trees

[00:22:09] And all the way

[00:22:11] Back to the stall

[00:22:13] Selling the roasted chestnuts

[00:22:17] Kira focuses hard

[00:22:20] On the queue

[00:22:21] In front of her

[00:22:22] Doing her absolute best

[00:22:25] To avoid even looking

[00:22:28] At the chestnuts

[00:22:29] And trying to pretend

[00:22:32] She can't smell

[00:22:34] Their magical smell

[00:22:35] Their magical smell

[00:22:35] At all

[00:22:37] Reminding herself

[00:22:38] That she has

[00:22:40] Only just enough coins

[00:22:42] For the things

[00:22:44] She's chosen

[00:22:45] And if she could go

[00:22:47] Without sweets

[00:22:48] And cakes

[00:23:22] At all the ornaments

[00:23:23] Tucked away

[00:23:25] In the green branches

[00:23:27] Finding angels

[00:23:29] And nutcrackers

[00:23:31] And leaping ballerinas

[00:23:33] And running reindeer

[00:23:36] By the time

[00:23:39] Her place in the queue

[00:23:40] Is alongside

[00:23:41] The next Christmas tree

[00:23:43] The sun

[00:23:45] Has started to set

[00:23:46] And the lights

[00:23:48] Are being turned on

[00:23:52] As the twinkling lights
