00:00:43
Speaker 1: Cosmo's little sister Astrid. She comes up with some truly
00:00:47
Speaker 1: unique and slightly silly dreams which I can't wait to
00:00:50
Speaker 1: share with you. As you all know, I am possibly
00:00:55
Speaker 1: the world's biggest fan of bedtime stories, and this one,
00:00:58
Speaker 1: I'm going to tell you tonight, has a name that
00:01:00
Speaker 1: is very familiar. In fact, its origins reach right back
00:01:05
Speaker 1: into the medieval Age, and it has been reframed and
00:01:08
Speaker 1: retold across the world in many different ways and languages. Tonight,
00:01:13
Speaker 1: I'm delighted to bring you our own, very special Coco
00:01:17
Speaker 1: Sleep version, written especially for you. Now, close your curtains
00:01:24
Speaker 1: and turn out the lights. Settle down into bed and
00:01:28
Speaker 1: close your eyes, ready to hear an imaginative tale about
00:01:32
Speaker 1: a princess called briar Rose, who loves nothing more than
00:01:37
Speaker 1: snuggling down in her bed and drifting into a deep
00:01:40
Speaker 1: sleep every night. But one day that all changes, and
00:01:45
Speaker 1: for the first time ever, she encounters a rare problem.
00:01:50
Speaker 1: She can't sleep no matter what, She simply cannot do it.
00:01:56
Speaker 1: She asks her mother what to do, and she suggests
00:02:00
Speaker 1: that Briarros seeks help from a fairy who lives nearby.
00:02:04
Speaker 1: Briarros takes her mother's advice and sets off to find
00:02:07
Speaker 1: the fairy. So let's join the princess on her journey
00:02:11
Speaker 1: and hear how she once again learns to drift easily
00:02:15
Speaker 1: into peaceful sleep. This is Sleeping Beauty by Gillian Rogerson.
00:02:29
Speaker 1: Once upon a time, in a kingdom far away, there
00:02:33
Speaker 1: lived a kind hearted king and Queen. They were generous
00:02:37
Speaker 1: people and loved helping the villagers who lived nearby. The
00:02:41
Speaker 1: King and Queen were always ready to help the fairies
00:02:44
Speaker 1: of the enchanted forest too. They considered the villagers and
00:02:48
Speaker 1: fairies to be their very dearest of friends, and the
00:02:52
Speaker 1: villagers and the fairies felt the same way about the
00:02:55
Speaker 1: royal couple. The king and Queen often held parties to
00:03:00
Speaker 1: celebrate many events, including their friend's birthdays or weddings, when
00:03:05
Speaker 1: someone new moved into the area, or for any reason
00:03:09
Speaker 1: at all that called for a celebration. They held the
00:03:13
Speaker 1: parties in their palace and would welcome everyone warmly into
00:03:17
Speaker 1: their home. The day came when there was an extra
00:03:21
Speaker 1: special reason for a celebration for the King and Queen,
00:03:26
Speaker 1: the birth of their daughter, Briar Rose. She was the
00:03:30
Speaker 1: light of their lives and they counted themselves to be
00:03:34
Speaker 1: very fortunate people. Indeed, they were so busy looking after
00:03:39
Speaker 1: the new baby that they didn't have time to think
00:03:42
Speaker 1: about a party. Their friends in the village and forest
00:03:46
Speaker 1: were absolutely delighted about the birth of the princess, and
00:03:51
Speaker 1: with help from the staff at the palace, they arranged
00:03:54
Speaker 1: for a surprise party to be held for the King
00:03:58
Speaker 1: and Queen. Invitations were sent out across the land and
00:04:03
Speaker 1: everyone was told to keep the party a secret, as
00:04:07
Speaker 1: they wanted it to be a surprise for their kind
00:04:10
Speaker 1: hearted King and Queen. The day of the surprise party
00:04:15
Speaker 1: arrived and as the King and Queen knew nothing about it,
00:04:20
Speaker 1: they took their usual morning stroll around the village as
00:04:23
Speaker 1: they normally did and said hello to everyone. Their walk
00:04:28
Speaker 1: took longer than normal because the King was holding the
00:04:31
Speaker 1: new baby in his arms and everyone wanted to say
00:04:35
Speaker 1: hello to the little princess. Even though Briar Rose was
00:04:40
Speaker 1: only a few weeks old. When someone looked at her
00:04:44
Speaker 1: and smiled, she would gaze softly into their eyes as
00:04:49
Speaker 1: though she loved them with all her heart. As they
00:04:53
Speaker 1: walked through the village, the Queen noticed that everyone was
00:04:58
Speaker 1: wearing their very best clothes that morning, but she didn't
00:05:03
Speaker 1: say anything. After saying hello to everyone in the village,
00:05:08
Speaker 1: the King and Queen headed into the enchanted forest and
00:05:12
Speaker 1: said good morning to the fairies who lived there. Like
00:05:16
Speaker 1: the villagers, the fairies gazed at the baby in wonder,
00:05:20
Speaker 1: and the little princess looked back at them with love
00:05:24
Speaker 1: in her eyes. The Queen noticed that the fairies were
00:05:29
Speaker 1: wearing extra twinkly glitter that morning, but she didn't say anything.
00:05:37
Speaker 1: Once the royal family had said hello to everyone, they
00:05:41
Speaker 1: headed back towards the palace, completely unaware that it had
00:05:46
Speaker 1: been transformed inside. The King and Queen reached the palace
00:05:51
Speaker 1: and went inside. They walked into the Great Hall and
00:05:56
Speaker 1: came to a sudden stop there, eyes widened in surprise
00:06:02
Speaker 1: as they stared at the room in astonishment. Bright banners
00:06:08
Speaker 1: and glittering bloons hung from the ceiling. Silk ribbons wound
00:06:14
Speaker 1: around the marble pillars. Tables and chairs were set out
00:06:19
Speaker 1: across the huge floor and topped with plates and glasses.
00:06:25
Speaker 1: Each chair was decorated with silk ribbons. A huge dining
00:06:32
Speaker 1: table had been brought out from the attic and was
00:06:35
Speaker 1: standing at the back of the room. It was covered
00:06:39
Speaker 1: in silver dishes that contained a variety of mouth watering food.
00:06:45
Speaker 1: In the middle of the table was a big cake.
00:06:50
Speaker 1: The King and Queen shared a confused look. The King said,
00:06:57
Speaker 1: is there a party today? I don't remember organizing one.
00:07:03
Speaker 1: Did you organize this, my love? Is it someone's birthday
00:07:07
Speaker 1: or anniversary? The Queen replied, I didn't organize this, and
00:07:13
Speaker 1: I don't know anyone who's got a celebration coming up.
00:07:17
Speaker 1: Let's take a closer look at the cake on the table.
00:07:21
Speaker 1: I think I can see some icing on it. They
00:07:25
Speaker 1: walked over to the table. Briar Rose was still snuggled
00:07:29
Speaker 1: cozily in her father's arms. The royal family looked at
00:07:34
Speaker 1: the cake. The iced words read congratulations on the birth
00:07:42
Speaker 1: of your daughter. The king frowned, still not sure of
00:07:48
Speaker 1: what was going on. The Queen smiled gently and said,
00:07:54
Speaker 1: I think the kind villagers and fairies have organized this
00:07:59
Speaker 1: for us. I did notice they were dressed in their
00:08:03
Speaker 1: best clothes and glitter. How very kind and thoughtful of them.
00:08:11
Speaker 1: At that moment, the Queen's maid entered the room. She
00:08:16
Speaker 1: rushed over to them and declared, oh, your Majesty's I
00:08:21
Speaker 1: was supposed to meet you at the front door and
00:08:24
Speaker 1: lead you into the hall. The Queen gave her maid
00:08:29
Speaker 1: a kind look and said, I think the cake explains everything.
00:08:36
Speaker 1: What a lovely surprise for us. Did you help getting
00:08:40
Speaker 1: everything ready? The maid nodded and explained how all the
00:08:45
Speaker 1: staff had helped too. She said, I do hope it's
00:08:50
Speaker 1: okay to have a party for you and the princess.
00:08:54
Speaker 1: The King and Queen said it was more than okay.
00:08:58
Speaker 1: It was the most wonderful of surprises, and they thanked
00:09:02
Speaker 1: the maid and asked her to give their thanks to
00:09:05
Speaker 1: the rest of the staff. The baby princess gurgled as
00:09:11
Speaker 1: though adding her thanks. The maid said, I'll certainly pass
00:09:16
Speaker 1: on your thanks. Everyone wanted to welcome Briar Rose and
00:09:21
Speaker 1: it was a joy to prepare this celebration for you.
00:09:25
Speaker 1: The party will begin shortly, the Queen said, In that case,
00:09:32
Speaker 1: we must get changed into our party clothes immediately so
00:09:37
Speaker 1: that we are ready to greet our guests. The royal
00:09:41
Speaker 1: family hastened up the marble steps. They returned minutes later,
00:09:47
Speaker 1: dressed in their finery. Briar Rose was wearing a delicate
00:09:52
Speaker 1: lace dress that had been passed down through the family
00:09:56
Speaker 1: for many years. The royal staff were bustling about in
00:10:02
Speaker 1: the hall, making sure everything looked perfect. The King and
00:10:09
Speaker 1: Queen took some time to thank everyone and insisted they
00:10:13
Speaker 1: join in with the celebrations. The doorbell chimed out, and
00:10:20
Speaker 1: moments later the first guests arrived, bearing gifts for the
00:10:26
Speaker 1: little princess. The King and Queen were touched by their generosity,
00:10:33
Speaker 1: and their hearts overflowed with love. Each guest gazed upon
00:10:41
Speaker 1: the princess, who was now in her mother's arms. Briar
00:10:47
Speaker 1: Rose gazed back at everyone again, with love shining in
00:10:52
Speaker 1: her little eyes. More and more guests arrived in the
00:10:57
Speaker 1: Great Hall was soon full of chatting people and fluttering fairies.
00:11:04
Speaker 1: An orchestra of local musicians appeared and began to play
00:11:09
Speaker 1: soft music. The party was soon in full swing. Guests
00:11:17
Speaker 1: took seats at the tables. Others helped themselves to the
00:11:21
Speaker 1: delicious food. Some of the guests started to dance. A
00:11:28
Speaker 1: while later, the cake was cut and huge slices were
00:11:33
Speaker 1: handed out to everyone. The little Princess watched it all
00:11:40
Speaker 1: a baby smile on her face. Some time later, the
00:11:45
Speaker 1: King and Queen proceeded to open the presence. The villagers
00:11:50
Speaker 1: and fairies gathered around them. The villagers had created beautiful
00:11:55
Speaker 1: handmade gifts, including toys, clothes, and soft blankets. The King
00:12:02
Speaker 1: and Queen thanked them over and over again and proclaimed
00:12:08
Speaker 1: they had never seen such beautiful items before and would
00:12:13
Speaker 1: treasure them all. It was time for the fairies to
00:12:17
Speaker 1: give their gifts. The first fairy, by the name of Twinkletoes, said,
00:12:25
Speaker 1: I will teach Briarrose how to dance, and we will
00:12:29
Speaker 1: whirl and twirl around the trees in the enchanted forest.
00:12:34
Speaker 1: The other fairies followed and promised to teach Briar Rose
00:12:39
Speaker 1: many things, such as singing, painting, and reading. Briar Rose
00:12:46
Speaker 1: gazed open eyed at the fairies as though she was
00:12:50
Speaker 1: taking in every word they were saying. The King thanked
00:12:55
Speaker 1: the fairies and said they were very kind. The fairies
00:13:01
Speaker 1: promised to always be there for the princess whenever she
00:13:06
Speaker 1: needed them. The queen said softly, that is the greatest
00:13:13
Speaker 1: gift of all, thank you. Her smile faded a little,
00:13:20
Speaker 1: and she cast a quick look around the room. She said,
00:13:25
Speaker 1: someone is missing. Where is Sleepy Wings? Did she receive
00:13:31
Speaker 1: an invitation? The other fairies nodded and said Sleepy Wings
00:13:37
Speaker 1: had told them she was looking forward to the party.
00:13:41
Speaker 1: The fairies had reminded her about it just before they
00:13:45
Speaker 1: had set off towards the palace. Twinkle Toes said fondly,
00:13:51
Speaker 1: she's probably fallen asleep somewhere. You know how much she
00:13:56
Speaker 1: loves sleeping. Sometimes. I think she she could sleep for
00:14:01
Speaker 1: a hundred years. I'm sure she'll turn up soon. She
00:14:07
Speaker 1: won't want to miss this party. The queen nodded, but
00:14:12
Speaker 1: a look of concern remained on her face. She handed
00:14:17
Speaker 1: the baby princess to her husband and said she would
00:14:20
Speaker 1: check on the missing fairy. She'd take her some cake too,
00:14:25
Speaker 1: in case there was none left. Later, the queen quickly
00:14:31
Speaker 1: collected a slice of cake and wrapped it carefully in
00:14:35
Speaker 1: a cotton napkin. The Queen left the palace and headed
00:14:40
Speaker 1: towards the enchanted forest. She entered the forest and walked
00:14:45
Speaker 1: along the sun dappled path towards the fairy house where
00:14:50
Speaker 1: Sleepy Wings lived. When she arrived, the Queen found the
00:14:55
Speaker 1: little fairy snoozing peacefully in a hammock strung between woe bushes.
00:15:02
Speaker 1: Sleepy Wings looked so very peaceful in her slumber that
00:15:08
Speaker 1: the Queen didn't want to wake her up. She placed
00:15:12
Speaker 1: the cake on the doorstep of the fairy house and
00:15:15
Speaker 1: began to walk away. Sleepy Wings stirred in her hammock
00:15:23
Speaker 1: and opened her eyes. She smiled sleepily at the Queen
00:15:28
Speaker 1: and said hello. The Queen said, I hope I haven't
00:15:35
Speaker 1: disturbed you. I was leaving some cake on your doorstep.
00:15:40
Speaker 1: It's from the party celebrations at the palace. I'm going
00:15:44
Speaker 1: back there now. Do you want to come with me?
00:15:49
Speaker 1: Sleepy Wings yawned and said she would do that. She
00:15:54
Speaker 1: apologized for being late. She had decided to take a
00:15:59
Speaker 1: short nap before the party and had fallen fast asleep.
00:16:04
Speaker 1: The Queen and Sleepy Wings headed to the palace and
00:16:08
Speaker 1: went inside. Sleepy Wings flew over to the princess and said,
00:16:15
Speaker 1: I will bestow upon you a peaceful sleep for every
00:16:21
Speaker 1: night of your life. The king chuckled and said their
00:16:27
Speaker 1: daughter was already sleeping well throughout the night, and he'd
00:16:31
Speaker 1: started to call her sleeping Beauty. Sleepy Wing said that
00:16:39
Speaker 1: is good news, especially for such a young baby. If
00:16:45
Speaker 1: that ever changes, briar Rose can visit me in the
00:16:48
Speaker 1: forest and I will help her. The party continued throughout
00:16:54
Speaker 1: the day and into the night. The memory of the
00:16:58
Speaker 1: wonderful surprise party stayed with the royal family and their
00:17:03
Speaker 1: guests for a long time and was often spoken about fondly.
00:17:10
Speaker 1: The years passed by and briar Rose grew older. Just
00:17:16
Speaker 1: like her parents. She loved spending time with the villagers
00:17:21
Speaker 1: and offered her help whenever she could. She also loved
00:17:25
Speaker 1: being with the fairies in the enchanted forest, playing games
00:17:30
Speaker 1: and dancing with them. She attended the local school and
00:17:34
Speaker 1: made many friends there. Briar Rose continued to sleep peacefully
00:17:41
Speaker 1: every night, just like she had as a baby, but
00:17:47
Speaker 1: there came a time when that changed. It started on
00:17:52
Speaker 1: a particularly busy day for the princess. Briar Rose had
00:17:57
Speaker 1: been out of the palace all day long after finishing
00:18:01
Speaker 1: school for the day, she had stopped at the village
00:18:05
Speaker 1: and helped people with one thing and another, And then
00:18:08
Speaker 1: she'd visited the fairies and danced and sang with them
00:18:12
Speaker 1: for a while. When she'd returned to the palace, she
00:18:16
Speaker 1: had taken dinner with her family and talked about their day.
00:18:22
Speaker 1: But when briar Rose went to bed that night, her
00:18:26
Speaker 1: mind was full of busy thoughts that just wouldn't settle down.
00:18:31
Speaker 1: She thought about the new dances she had learned with
00:18:34
Speaker 1: the fairies and wondered if she was doing them right.
00:18:38
Speaker 1: She thought about the farmers in the village and if
00:18:42
Speaker 1: it was time to help them with the apple harvest. Yet,
00:18:46
Speaker 1: she thought about her schoolwork and wondered if she would
00:18:50
Speaker 1: ever get the hang of fractions. Perhaps she could ask
00:18:54
Speaker 1: her friend Samuel if he could help her with that.
00:19:00
Speaker 1: Stared at the ceiling as the thoughts continued to tumble
00:19:04
Speaker 1: over and over through her mind. Eventually she drifted off
00:19:10
Speaker 1: to sleep, But the same thing happened the next night
00:19:15
Speaker 1: and the night after that. It was like her thoughts
00:19:21
Speaker 1: were queuing up in her mind, just waiting for her
00:19:25
Speaker 1: to lie down in bed at night, and as soon
00:19:29
Speaker 1: as that happened, the thoughts would jump into her head
00:19:33
Speaker 1: wanting her attention. Her parents noticed their daughter yawning throughout
00:19:39
Speaker 1: the day and asked her what was wrong. When briar
00:19:44
Speaker 1: Rose told them about her sleeping issues, her mother said,
00:19:50
Speaker 1: why don't you visit Sleepy Wings. Her gift to you
00:19:55
Speaker 1: when you were born was a peaceful night's sleep. You
00:19:59
Speaker 1: didn't at the time, but it seems you do now.
00:20:05
Speaker 1: Briar Rose said she would visit Sleepy Wings straight away.
00:20:10
Speaker 1: She knew where the fairy lived, but hadn't spoken to
00:20:13
Speaker 1: her much because Sleepy Wings was often asleep. When briar
00:20:18
Speaker 1: Rose visited the enchanted forest, the princess left the palace
00:20:24
Speaker 1: and headed towards the forest. Her head became full of
00:20:30
Speaker 1: thoughts along the way. Briar Rose was so absorbed in
00:20:35
Speaker 1: what was going on in her head that she almost
00:20:39
Speaker 1: walked straight past Sleepy Wings, who was awake and sitting
00:20:44
Speaker 1: in a little chair outside her house. Sleepy Wings called out, hey, there,
00:20:52
Speaker 1: briar Rose, be careful where you're going. You're about to
00:20:57
Speaker 1: bump into a tree. Briar Rose stopped walking and shook
00:21:03
Speaker 1: her head at the tree she'd almost bumped into. She
00:21:08
Speaker 1: walked over to Briar Rose and let out a soft sigh. Hello,
00:21:14
Speaker 1: Sleepy Wings, thank you for the warning. I was too
00:21:19
Speaker 1: busy thinking thoughts to watch where I was going. Sleepy
00:21:25
Speaker 1: Wings gave the princess a long look and said, are
00:21:31
Speaker 1: those thoughts keeping you up at night too? Briar Rose
00:21:37
Speaker 1: nodded and said she didn't know how to get rid
00:21:40
Speaker 1: of them, and the more she thought about them, the
00:21:44
Speaker 1: more thoughts floated into her head. Sleepy Wings nodded in
00:21:50
Speaker 1: understanding and said it happened to many people, but luckily
00:21:56
Speaker 1: Sleepy Wings knew how to get rid of such troublesome thoughts.
00:22:02
Speaker 1: You do. The princess asked how. Sleepy Wings got up
00:22:09
Speaker 1: from her chair and said it would be easier to
00:22:12
Speaker 1: show Briar Rose rather than tell her. Follow me. The
00:22:18
Speaker 1: fairy said, we'll start by going for a walk through
00:22:23
Speaker 1: the forest. Try not to bump into any trees. She
00:22:28
Speaker 1: grinned at briar Rose. Briar Rose grinned back and said
00:22:33
Speaker 1: she would try her best not to. She had many
00:22:37
Speaker 1: questions for the fairy concerning her never ending thoughts, but
00:22:43
Speaker 1: before she could ask even one, the fairy asked her
00:22:48
Speaker 1: a question Briar Rose, can you tell me what you
00:22:54
Speaker 1: see as we walk along? Briar Rose was surprised at
00:22:59
Speaker 1: the question, but she took a look at her surroundings
00:23:04
Speaker 1: and said she could see the trees and the sky
00:23:08
Speaker 1: and the grass. Tell me more, the fairy said, are
00:23:14
Speaker 1: the trees all the same? And what about the sky?
00:23:19
Speaker 1: Are there any clouds up there? The princess slowed her
00:23:24
Speaker 1: steps and took a longer look. She told the fairy
00:23:29
Speaker 1: that some of the trees reached towards the sky, and
00:23:34
Speaker 1: some had low branches that swept the ground. The leaves
00:23:39
Speaker 1: were all different shades of green. Some were like ripened apples,
00:23:46
Speaker 1: and some were a pale, delicate green, like the eyes
00:23:50
Speaker 1: of Emerald the singing fairy. The Princess stopped walking and
00:23:58
Speaker 1: gazed at the sky. She said, there were a lot
00:24:04
Speaker 1: of fluffy clouds, and one of them looked like a
00:24:07
Speaker 1: dragon with smoke curling out of its mouth. She smiled
00:24:13
Speaker 1: and said that one next to the dragon looks like
00:24:18
Speaker 1: a sheep jumping over a horse. Hot. Look over there,
00:24:24
Speaker 1: that cloud is shaped like my mother's favorite hat. Briar
00:24:30
Speaker 1: Rose gazed at the sky some more, her smile soft
00:24:35
Speaker 1: and relaxed. When she looked back at the fairy, Sleepy
00:24:41
Speaker 1: Wings was smiling too. Sleepy Wings suggested they carry on
00:24:49
Speaker 1: walking and go towards the stream up ahead. She asked
00:24:54
Speaker 1: briar Rose to keep looking closely at what was around them.
00:25:00
Speaker 1: The fairy added, can you tell me what you hear
00:25:06
Speaker 1: and smell too? Briar Rose nodded, not sure why Sleepy
00:25:13
Speaker 1: Wings was asking her that. As they continued on their walk,
00:25:19
Speaker 1: briar Rose took her time and really looked at the trees,
00:25:25
Speaker 1: the flowers, and the animals who lived in the forest.
00:25:30
Speaker 1: She noticed the sun slanting through the branches and moving
00:25:36
Speaker 1: across the grass in a mesmerizing dance. She heard the
00:25:43
Speaker 1: soft buzz of a bumble bee as it nuzzled into
00:25:47
Speaker 1: the velvety petals of a ruby red rose. The bees
00:25:53
Speaker 1: buzzing mingled with the sweet songs coming from the birds
00:25:59
Speaker 1: in the tree. Briar Rose gently inhaled the relaxing scent
00:26:06
Speaker 1: of lavender plants and trailed her fingers through patches of
00:26:12
Speaker 1: long grass. The princess became more and more relaxed as
00:26:20
Speaker 1: she strolled through the forest. She let out a soft
00:26:27
Speaker 1: sigh of happiness. They walked on, and briar Rose soon
00:26:34
Speaker 1: heard the soothing babble of the stream as it tumbled
00:26:38
Speaker 1: over the rocks. It was like music, and it blended
00:26:44
Speaker 1: perfectly with the other sounds coming from the forest, like
00:26:49
Speaker 1: nature's lullaby. The Fairy and the Princess stopped at the
00:26:56
Speaker 1: side of the stream and watched it flowed gently around
00:27:01
Speaker 1: shiny rocks. Briar Rose noticed golden fish swimming leisurely through
00:27:11
Speaker 1: the water. She gazed at them as they swam downstream.
00:27:19
Speaker 1: She saw frogs lying on their backs on sun warm
00:27:24
Speaker 1: rocks at the side of the stream. Their hands were
00:27:29
Speaker 1: behind their heads and they were gazing softly at the sky.
00:27:36
Speaker 1: Briar Rose relaxed more and more as she absorbed the
00:27:43
Speaker 1: soothing scene. Sleepy Wings fluttered over to a large rock
00:27:51
Speaker 1: and invited briar Rose to join her. Briar Rose sat
00:27:57
Speaker 1: down next to the ferry and placed her hands on
00:28:01
Speaker 1: the rock, noticing how smooth and warm it was. Sleepy
00:28:08
Speaker 1: Wings looked at the slow flowing water, a peaceful smile
00:28:14
Speaker 1: on her face. She began to take some deep, relaxing breaths.
00:28:24
Speaker 1: Briar Rose instinctively copied the fairy and took some deep
00:28:30
Speaker 1: breaths too. It was so very relaxing sitting there on
00:28:38
Speaker 1: the warm rock and doing nothing except watching the stream
00:28:43
Speaker 1: flow by. Sleepy Wings turned to briar Rose and asked
00:28:50
Speaker 1: how she was feeling. Briar Rose replied, very relaxed and happy.
00:29:01
Speaker 1: All those thoughts I had earlier have gone. She smiled
00:29:06
Speaker 1: at the fairy, Have you used magic on me? The
00:29:13
Speaker 1: fairy shook her head and said, the magic is within
00:29:18
Speaker 1: you and has always been there. It's a matter of
00:29:23
Speaker 1: quietening your mind. You can still the thoughts in your
00:29:28
Speaker 1: head at any time by slowing down and really looking
00:29:33
Speaker 1: at what's around you. Taking long, slow breaths helps too.
00:29:42
Speaker 1: You can also count your breaths if you want to.
00:29:47
Speaker 1: If you take time during your day to quiet your mind,
00:29:52
Speaker 1: you will fall asleep more easily at night. Really, briar
00:29:58
Speaker 1: Rose asked, is it really that easy? With the softest
00:30:05
Speaker 1: look in her eyes, Sleepy Wings replied, it works for
00:30:12
Speaker 1: me and others too. It helps if you practice quietening
00:30:18
Speaker 1: several times throughout the day. Sometimes even a minute of
00:30:23
Speaker 1: slowing down and silently counting your breaths will help. Why
00:30:29
Speaker 1: don't you try that now? Briar Rose focused softly on
00:30:36
Speaker 1: the stream and took some long, deep breaths and silently
00:30:42
Speaker 1: counted them. One breathing in, two breathing out, three breathing in,
00:30:57
Speaker 1: for breathing out, five breathing in, six breathing out. Briar
00:31:09
Speaker 1: Rose smiled at the fairy and said that had helped,
00:31:13
Speaker 1: and she felt even more relaxed. The princess and the
00:31:19
Speaker 1: fairy stayed a little while longer on the warm rock,
00:31:24
Speaker 1: not talking, just looking at the slowly moving river. After
00:31:32
Speaker 1: a while, Sleepy Wings started to yawn. Briar Rose yawned too,
00:31:39
Speaker 1: and said she should be getting back to the palace.
00:31:44
Speaker 1: Sleepy Wings gave her a sleepy nod and said, I'd
00:31:50
Speaker 1: better get back to my home too, but I'm too
00:31:55
Speaker 1: tired to walk little too tired to fly. The kind
00:32:06
Speaker 1: princess said you can sit on my shoulder and I'll
00:32:12
Speaker 1: carry you home. Sleepy Wings was touched by her thoughtfulness
00:32:18
Speaker 1: and said thank you. The princess lowered her shoulder and
00:32:25
Speaker 1: the Sleepy Fairy climbed onto it. She snuggled up closer
00:32:31
Speaker 1: to the princess and closed her eyes. Briar Rose stood
00:32:38
Speaker 1: up and walked away from the stream. She made her
00:32:44
Speaker 1: way through the forest, careful not to disturb the fairy
00:32:49
Speaker 1: on her shoulder, who was now fast asleep. On the
00:32:56
Speaker 1: way through the forest, briar Rose looked closely at her
00:33:02
Speaker 1: surroundings and saw many things she had never noticed before.
00:33:09
Speaker 1: She kept practicing her deep breathing, and a feeling of
00:33:15
Speaker 1: peacefulness flowed through her. It wasn't long before briar Rose
00:33:23
Speaker 1: reached Sleepy Wings fairy house. She carefully scooped the snoozing
00:33:30
Speaker 1: fairy off her shoulder and placed her snugly into her hammock.
00:33:38
Speaker 1: She tucked a little blanket around the fairy, whispered thank you,
00:33:45
Speaker 1: and then continued on her way. By the time briar
00:33:53
Speaker 1: Rose reached the palace, she felt very relaxed and happy.
00:34:01
Speaker 1: She also felt very tired and told her parents she
00:34:06
Speaker 1: was going to have an early night. She gave them
00:34:11
Speaker 1: a sleepy wave and headed to her room. Very soon,
00:34:18
Speaker 1: briar Rose was snuggled up in her cozy bed, feeling
00:34:24
Speaker 1: all warm and peaceful. She remembered Sleepy Wings words and
00:34:32
Speaker 1: silently counted her breath and slowly breathed in and out.
00:34:42
Speaker 1: Briar Rose gently drifted into a deep, deep sleep.
