00:00:30
Speaker 1: So he's a big warm hello to Harper and Macy, Atticus, Ophelia, Eliza, Maisie, Nadia, Mackenzie, Magnolia, Milo,
00:00:43

00:00:54
Speaker 1: Believe me, we'd love to provide a completely free podcast
00:00:58
Speaker 1: all of the time, but we can't. We dearly need
00:01:01
Speaker 1: your support so we can keep writing and producing our
00:01:04
Speaker 1: wonderful weekly stories and meditations. Keep an eye out, though,
00:01:08
Speaker 1: for next Monday's free episode. If you're one of the
00:01:13
Speaker 1: many who can't get enough of our lovable, adventurous Doggie Duo,
00:01:18
Speaker 1: Hector and Sonny, you're in for a real treat. Speaking
00:01:23
Speaker 1: of meditations, though, we're going to enjoy another one tonight
00:01:27
Speaker 1: from our newest writer, Joel. His last one was Gratitude
00:01:32
Speaker 1: the Gorilla a few months ago. You may remember it
00:01:35
Speaker 1: and Tonight's one features our nearest and dearest ancestors again.
00:01:39
Speaker 1: It's based in a monkey temple high up on top
00:01:42
Speaker 1: of a large rocky hill. Once we're there, we'll meet
00:01:46
Speaker 1: an old monkey who will teach us his powerful wisdom
00:01:51
Speaker 1: learned throughout his long life. Our new friend will teach
00:01:55
Speaker 1: us several lessons, including about different kinds of meditation and
00:02:00
Speaker 1: very helpfully how to meditate. As you spend time in
00:02:06
Speaker 1: the monkey temple, you will encounter other monkeys and learn
00:02:10
Speaker 1: valuable lessons about the power of helping others and how
00:02:13
Speaker 1: to be happy and content within yourself. So lie down,
00:02:20
Speaker 1: get comfy, and softly close your eyes. Join me as
00:02:24
Speaker 1: I begin the Mystical Monkey Temple by Joel Pim. Lying
00:02:38
Speaker 1: in your bed, can you feel how soft the mattress is?
00:02:42
Speaker 1: Does the blanket feel like it's giving you a big hug?
00:02:47
Speaker 1: Can you wriggle around a little bit to make sure
00:02:49
Speaker 1: you're as comfy as you can be? Okay, now, to
00:02:55
Speaker 1: release any energy left over from your day, give your
00:02:58
Speaker 1: arms a big share. Let all that energy out, shake
00:03:07
Speaker 1: and relax. That's right now, let's relax our hands and fingers. Next,
00:03:15
Speaker 1: clench your hand into a fist and tighten them as
00:03:18
Speaker 1: hard as you can squeeze, and then with a big
00:03:23
Speaker 1: sigh ah, relax your hands back to the mattress. Relax
00:03:31
Speaker 1: your chest and shoulders now, letting your muscles have a
00:03:36
Speaker 1: well deserved rest. Moving down your body just like we
00:03:41
Speaker 1: did with our arms, Let's give our legs a big shake.
00:03:45
Speaker 1: That's right, let all the energy out of them and relax.
00:03:53
Speaker 1: Slowly bring your legs back to the mattress and into
00:03:56
Speaker 1: a comfortable position. Let your body sink into the mattress
00:04:01
Speaker 1: as you feel your body becoming calmer and calmer. Why
00:04:07
Speaker 1: you feel so warm and cozy? Letting your body have
00:04:10
Speaker 1: the rest that it needs. You've been so active all day.
00:04:15
Speaker 1: Now is the time to recharge your batteries so you
00:04:18
Speaker 1: can go again tomorrow. Rest well so that you can
00:04:22
Speaker 1: be your happy, energetic self tomorrow. With every breath in
00:04:28
Speaker 1: and out, feel yourself get more and more sleepy and relaxed.
00:04:35
Speaker 1: You're now ready for a cozy sleep, for that will
00:04:38
Speaker 1: give you the energy to play with your friends and
00:04:40
Speaker 1: family all day tomorrow. If you feel yourself drifting off,
00:04:45
Speaker 1: that's fine. Now's the time to get more and more sleepy.
00:04:54
Speaker 1: Now with your eyes closed. Imagine yourself deep in the jungle.
00:05:01
Speaker 1: You're surrounded by trees, big leafy plants, and the sun
00:05:06
Speaker 1: is shining brightly. There's a sweet smell in the air.
00:05:13
Speaker 1: In front of you, there's a large, light colored stone
00:05:16
Speaker 1: staircase that winds up the side of the hill. Filled
00:05:21
Speaker 1: with excitement and curiosity, you decide to walk up the
00:05:26
Speaker 1: staircase and find out what is at the top. You
00:05:30
Speaker 1: feel a little nervous butterfly flutter in your stomach. You
00:05:35
Speaker 1: let the butterfly settle there for a minute. You take
00:05:38
Speaker 1: a deep breath. You move one step forward, then another,
00:05:45
Speaker 1: then another, and another. Soon you realize that climbing the
00:05:51
Speaker 1: staircase is not as scary as you first thought. You
00:05:56
Speaker 1: relax and let the butterfly slowly fly away. As your
00:06:01
Speaker 1: worry disappears, you feel a surge of confidence and courage
00:06:06
Speaker 1: come up within your heart. You let it fill you
00:06:10
Speaker 1: up and start to climb the stairs. You keep your
00:06:14
Speaker 1: head down, taking each step one by one. You can't
00:06:20
Speaker 1: wait to see what's at the top. You climb up, up,
00:06:25
Speaker 1: and up towards the sky. You're getting close to the
00:06:29
Speaker 1: top of the stairs. Now to the side of the staircase,
00:06:34
Speaker 1: you see a little viewing platform where you can take
00:06:38
Speaker 1: some time to take in the beautiful surroundings. In the
00:06:42
Speaker 1: time you've been walking, you have climbed to quite a height.
00:06:47
Speaker 1: From here, you can see the top of all of
00:06:50
Speaker 1: the nearby hills covered with a thick layer of forest.
00:06:56
Speaker 1: In the distance, you see the sea with little domed
00:07:00
Speaker 1: islands just off the coast. You look back to where
00:07:05
Speaker 1: you started your journey at the bottom of the stairs.
00:07:09
Speaker 1: You have come so far. You take a deep breath
00:07:14
Speaker 1: and enjoy gazing far far into the distance. As you
00:07:21
Speaker 1: turn to return to your climb, you spot a figure
00:07:25
Speaker 1: sitting cross legged on top of a rock at the
00:07:28
Speaker 1: edge of the cliff. You see that it is an
00:07:32
Speaker 1: old monkey, seemingly in deep meditation, completely still with his
00:07:40
Speaker 1: eyes closed. He has a slight, inwardly shining smile. The
00:07:48
Speaker 1: sight takes you by surprise, and instantly you feel a sleepy,
00:07:53
Speaker 1: calmness sweep over you. It's as if the meditating monkey
00:07:59
Speaker 1: is sending calming magic out into the air around him. Slowly,
00:08:07
Speaker 1: you move closer to the monkey, trying not to make
00:08:11
Speaker 1: a sound and disturb his meditation. The monkey looks so
00:08:18
Speaker 1: calm and wise. Do you want to learn more about him.
00:08:25
Speaker 1: The nervous feeling that you felt at the bottom of
00:08:27
Speaker 1: the hill has totally disappeared. Now only curiosity and interest
00:08:33
Speaker 1: are left. Without moving a muscle, the old wise monkey
00:08:41
Speaker 1: starts to speak with a soft and gentle voice. Come
00:08:48
Speaker 1: and sit, he says, I want to teach you how
00:08:54
Speaker 1: to meditate. You are stunned. How did he know that
00:08:59
Speaker 1: you were there? He didn't even turn around to see you.
00:09:04
Speaker 1: You barely made a sound. There's no way that he
00:09:09
Speaker 1: could know you were there. It must be his meditation magic. Slowly,
00:09:16
Speaker 1: you approach him and sit next to him. He continues
00:09:22
Speaker 1: to speak with a calm smile. You see, there are
00:09:28
Speaker 1: many different ways that you can meditate, just as there
00:09:33
Speaker 1: are many ways that you can travel from one place
00:09:37
Speaker 1: to another. Who can travel by bus, bike, car, train, aeroplane,
00:09:45
Speaker 1: and so on. Each one of them gets you to
00:09:49
Speaker 1: your destination. In the end, you just need to know
00:09:53
Speaker 1: what type of meditation works best for you to feel
00:09:58
Speaker 1: its magic. Some meditations focus on breathing extra slow, some
00:10:06
Speaker 1: meditations you have to concentrate hard on, and some meditations
00:10:13
Speaker 1: use special words that make you feel nice and calm. Today,
00:10:20
Speaker 1: I'm going to teach you how to do a type
00:10:23
Speaker 1: of meditation called mindfulness meditation. It works when you carefully
00:10:31
Speaker 1: notice things that you see, hear, think, and feel. You
00:10:39
Speaker 1: might want to think about the feeling of walking, the
00:10:44
Speaker 1: feeling of your breathing, or the different parts of your body.
00:10:50
Speaker 1: Soon you'll feel really calm, just like me. Today, we're
00:10:57
Speaker 1: going to focus on your breath and see what you
00:11:02
Speaker 1: can notice about each different part of your body. First
00:11:09
Speaker 1: of all, let's close our eyes and take a deep
00:11:14
Speaker 1: breath in through our nose and breathe out through our mouth.
00:11:23
Speaker 1: Fear yourself inflate like a balloon with each breath in
00:11:28
Speaker 1: and out. As you breathe in, you feel yourself being
00:11:35
Speaker 1: filled up with happiness and love. Then, as you breathe out,
00:11:41
Speaker 1: you imagine any worries drifting off. It's okay for these
00:11:48
Speaker 1: thoughts or feelings to come up. Everyone gets a little
00:11:53
Speaker 1: worried sometimes. Just watch them as they come into your head,
00:11:58
Speaker 1: stay around for a little bit, and then drift off.
00:12:04
Speaker 1: It's natural for us to not like some thoughts that
00:12:07
Speaker 1: come up in our heads. Your thoughts don't have to
00:12:11
Speaker 1: worry you too much. We're watching our thoughts like when
00:12:16
Speaker 1: we watch a movie at the cinema. We can find
00:12:20
Speaker 1: the thoughts funny or happy, or sometimes a little worried
00:12:26
Speaker 1: or sad. The thoughts come and go, and they may
00:12:31
Speaker 1: change soon, just like the pictures on the screen. Now,
00:12:38
Speaker 1: let's think about how we're feeling right now. That's right.
00:12:45
Speaker 1: Listen to what your body is telling you. You might
00:12:49
Speaker 1: feel like you need to itch yourself or move yourself
00:12:52
Speaker 1: a little bit. That's okay. Now think about whether you
00:13:00
Speaker 1: can feel anything at the top of your head. Maybe
00:13:06
Speaker 1: you can imagine that you have a little crown on
00:13:09
Speaker 1: your head. Take a deep breath in, and as you exhale,
00:13:17
Speaker 1: imagine that you are relaxing your head. Relax your forehead too.
00:13:27
Speaker 1: Make sure you aren't frowning. Be calm like the monkey. Now,
00:13:37
Speaker 1: think about your cheeks, your mouth, and your neck. Say
00:13:48
Speaker 1: hello and ask them how they're feeling. Take a deep
00:13:53
Speaker 1: breath in, and as you breathe out, let any worry
00:14:00
Speaker 1: feelings drift away. Move down to your shoulders, arms, hands,
00:14:14
Speaker 1: and fingers. Say hello to each part and check how
00:14:20
Speaker 1: they're feeling too. Next, move down to your chest, your back,
00:14:34
Speaker 1: your stomach, down to your hips, your legs, your knees,
00:14:52
Speaker 1: your feet, and finally your toes. How does your body
00:15:02
Speaker 1: feel now? Is it relaxed? Maybe you feel like you're
00:15:11
Speaker 1: floating like Zen the pufferfish. Oh, maybe you feel sleepy
00:15:20
Speaker 1: like Character and Sonny After a long walk. As you
00:15:29
Speaker 1: emerge back into the world, you look to your right
00:15:34
Speaker 1: and see the old wise monkey looking back at you
00:15:38
Speaker 1: with a bright, happy grin on his face. He looks old,
00:15:44
Speaker 1: but as you look into his eyes, you see a
00:15:48
Speaker 1: childlike glimmer that is playful and bright. Then he seems
00:15:54
Speaker 1: to go back into his personal meditation practice, closing his
00:15:59
Speaker 1: eye and looking straight ahead, just as he was when
00:16:04
Speaker 1: you found him. Before you could thank him for teaching
00:16:09
Speaker 1: you how to meditate, he starts speaking again. At the
00:16:16
Speaker 1: top of this hill, you will find a mystical monkey temple.
00:16:23
Speaker 1: At the entrance, you will find a monkey called sever
00:16:27
Speaker 1: who will teach you about the importance of helping others.
00:16:34
Speaker 1: With that. You gratefully thank him for his words of
00:16:37
Speaker 1: wisdom and turn back towards the track to the top
00:16:41
Speaker 1: of the hill. As you're walking, you look closely at
00:16:46
Speaker 1: all of the things in your environment. From the way
00:16:50
Speaker 1: that the ground feels as you're walking, the bright colors
00:16:54
Speaker 1: of green, red, and yellows from the wildflowers along the track,
00:17:00
Speaker 1: the feeling of your breath and your heart beating. You
00:17:05
Speaker 1: look around with a smile on your face, grateful for
00:17:09
Speaker 1: the world around you. As you reach the top of
00:17:15
Speaker 1: the hill, you see a beautiful temple made of white stone.
00:17:21
Speaker 1: It has brightly colored flags flapping in the wind, and
00:17:25
Speaker 1: golden statues of people in robes. At the entrance. The
00:17:31
Speaker 1: temple is surrounded by green trees and peaceful gardens. With
00:17:37
Speaker 1: the sight of the temple, a feeling of calm fills
00:17:42
Speaker 1: your body again, just as it did when you saw
00:17:46
Speaker 1: the old monkey for the first time. You realize that
00:17:52
Speaker 1: this place has something very special about it. Out of nowhere,
00:18:01
Speaker 1: a young monkey in the same robes as the old
00:18:04
Speaker 1: wise monkey comes out from behind a large rock and
00:18:09
Speaker 1: welcomes you with a beaming smile. My name is sever
00:18:16
Speaker 1: he says in a welcoming way. I'm here to show
00:18:21
Speaker 1: you around our temple and tell you more about our
00:18:25
Speaker 1: way of life. Follow me and I will show you around.
00:18:33
Speaker 1: Curious to learn more about these robed monkeys and why
00:18:37
Speaker 1: they're all so smiley and happy, you follow the young
00:18:42
Speaker 1: monkey towards the entrance with anticipation. Just outside the entrance,
00:18:49
Speaker 1: you see a large wheel. The welcoming monk says that
00:18:54
Speaker 1: you can spin the wheel and make a wish. It
00:18:59
Speaker 1: takes some time to think about the wish that you
00:19:02
Speaker 1: want to make. You've got it. A smile effortlessly forms
00:19:10
Speaker 1: on your face, and with all of your might, you
00:19:14
Speaker 1: give the wheel a big spin. A monk taps you're
00:19:18
Speaker 1: on the shoulder and says to you, now you must
00:19:23
Speaker 1: not hold onto this wish. Let it go, and the
00:19:28
Speaker 1: universe will support you to achieve your wish. You're not
00:19:34
Speaker 1: in agreement, putting your wish to the back of your
00:19:38
Speaker 1: mind as you continue to follow Siva into the temple.
00:19:45
Speaker 1: The moment you walk inside the temple, you are hit
00:19:51
Speaker 1: with the sweet smell of burning incense and the sound
00:19:56
Speaker 1: of soft chanting. Magical place that makes you feel calm
00:20:03
Speaker 1: and serene. Even with all the movement around the temple,
00:20:09
Speaker 1: everything seems so peaceful. You ask what everyone does all
00:20:14
Speaker 1: day when they're not meditating. Sevah replied with a calm voice.
00:20:22
Speaker 1: We help people in our local community or anyone else
00:20:28
Speaker 1: that needs our help. This may be teaching at local schools,
00:20:34
Speaker 1: cleaning people's houses, getting food for people that can't get
00:20:40
Speaker 1: it themselves, things like that helping others allows us to
00:20:47
Speaker 1: spread happiness by helping those in need, with the aim
00:20:53
Speaker 1: of leaving each moment better than we found it. By
00:20:58
Speaker 1: doing this, we can create a positive impact on the world,
00:21:03
Speaker 1: starting with ourselves. We don't do this for anything in return,
00:21:10
Speaker 1: just for the joy that it gives us to help others.
00:21:14
Speaker 1: We see others as being just as important as ourselves.
00:21:21
Speaker 1: In that way, it is natural for us to share
00:21:24
Speaker 1: and help people out. Tomorrow, after your sleep, you can
00:21:31
Speaker 1: join the monkeys for their day of service, and we
00:21:35
Speaker 1: can show you what we do in a day. After
00:21:41
Speaker 1: your day of learning and meeting many wise monkeys, you
00:21:46
Speaker 1: notice that you are now getting very tired. Sayvor notices
00:21:52
Speaker 1: this too and says that he will now show you
00:21:56
Speaker 1: to your room for the night. As you walk behind Sah,
00:22:03
Speaker 1: think about what you have learned since climbing the hill
00:22:07
Speaker 1: to the temple. Thanks to the wise old monkey, you
00:22:13
Speaker 1: have learnt about the different kinds of meditation and how
00:22:18
Speaker 1: you can practice it on your own. You also have
00:22:23
Speaker 1: learned about the power of helping others from the other
00:22:28
Speaker 1: monkeys at the temple. As you enter your room, you
00:22:34
Speaker 1: instantly feel relaxed, and ready for bed. You Thanksavah for
00:22:41
Speaker 1: his wisdom, and as soon as he leaves, you jump
00:22:46
Speaker 1: onto your bed and wrap yourself in the soft cotton sheets.
00:22:52
Speaker 1: You are ready to drift off into a deep and
00:22:56
Speaker 1: RESTful sleep. Your eyes and you take a deep breath,
00:23:04
Speaker 1: allowing yourself to fully relax. Silence falls over the temple.
00:23:13
Speaker 1: There's night falls. It is quiet and calm. You enjoy
00:23:21
Speaker 1: the quietness as a large smile rests on your face. Slowly,
00:23:30
Speaker 1: you feel yourself drifting into a deep, deep sleep. The
