00:00:21

Speaker 1: the supercast link in the show notes. Anyway, here's a

00:00:25

Speaker 1: preview of this very special episode. Deep in the heart

00:00:36

Speaker 1: of a far away forest stirred a cozy wooden cabin.

00:00:40

Speaker 1: Inside the cabin lived a family of koalas. There was Cocoa,

00:00:45

Speaker 1: Coco's parents, his grandparents, and his little sister Kira, who

00:00:50

Speaker 1: in fact was not a koala, she was a panda bear,

00:00:53

Speaker 1: but that's a different story altogether. There was a special

00:00:57

Speaker 1: time in Sleepy Forest. The globe trotting Folk Festival was

00:01:01

Speaker 1: coming to down Most people knew this because for the

00:01:05

Speaker 1: past few weeks, posters displaying the words in bright orange

00:01:09

Speaker 1: lettering had been discovered tacked up on tree trunks all

00:01:12

Speaker 1: over the place. But in fact, Coco had known about

00:01:16

Speaker 1: the folk festival's arrival for some time. That's because Coco's

00:01:20

Speaker 1: friend Buck the Beaver had been busy making puppets for it.

00:01:25

Speaker 1: A couple of months ago, Coco and Kira had been

00:01:28

Speaker 1: sharing a slice of walnut cake with Buck at his dam,

00:01:31

Speaker 1: which stood on the prettiest spot of the meandering, Sleepy river.

00:01:35

Speaker 1: Buck had just gone across the kitchen to cut another

00:01:38

Speaker 1: slice when Coco noticed something lying on his work bench.

00:01:43

Speaker 1: It looked like a doll, but a strange dog. He

00:01:47

Speaker 1: asked Buck what it was, Ah, said Buck. He gave

00:01:52

Speaker 1: a smile, then a small shake of the head. You

00:01:56

Speaker 1: sudden have theen there. It was meant to be a surprise, oops,

00:02:01

Speaker 1: said Kira. But Koco was now very intrigued and said,

00:02:06

Speaker 1: it's still a surprise even if it happens before you

00:02:10

Speaker 1: mean it too. What is it, Buck, please tell us.

00:02:16

Speaker 1: Buck gave a sigh and another shake of his head,

00:02:20

Speaker 1: but then his smile came back, and he told them

00:02:23

Speaker 1: that the object was, in fact, not a doll, but

00:02:25

Speaker 1: a puppet, a marionette with tiny holes in its hands

00:02:30

Speaker 1: and feet and mouth which strings could be run through

00:02:33

Speaker 1: so that she could stand up straight and wave her

00:02:37

Speaker 1: arms and speak. One of Buck's very oldest friends was

00:02:42

Speaker 1: a wallerbee named Wonder. Wonder had many talents. She knitted

00:02:48

Speaker 1: marvelous blankets, grew magical herbs and made beautiful pottery out

00:02:54

Speaker 1: of the softest clay. But her greatest talent was putting

00:02:59

Speaker 1: on fantastic puppet shows, and for many years it was Buck, who,

00:03:05

Speaker 1: after all, was so good with nibbling and whittling away

00:03:08

Speaker 1: at wood, who she entrusted with making the marionettes. In fact,

00:03:13

Speaker 1: Buck became so enthusiastic telling Coco and Kira the story

00:03:18

Speaker 1: that he accidentally let slip that these marionettes were for

00:03:22

Speaker 1: the folk festival that would be arriving in Sleepy Forests soon.

00:03:27

Speaker 1: Then Buck clamped his hands over his mouth. That was

00:03:30

Speaker 1: supposed to be a surprise too, So that's how Coco knew,

00:03:36

Speaker 1: but he made sure he kept it a surprise for

00:03:38

Speaker 1: everyone else. On the morning of the festival, Coco and

00:03:43

Speaker 1: Kira sat with their parents eating delicious plates of eucalyptus

00:03:47

Speaker 1: pancakes with oodles of honey syrup on them. Their dad

00:03:52

Speaker 1: was telling them all about the folk festival. He'd been

00:03:55

Speaker 1: many times before. It was his favorite event of the calendar.

00:04:00

Speaker 1: At one point, Kira took a mouthful, put down her fork,

00:04:05

Speaker 1: and asked her dad what exactly people wore to a

00:04:08

Speaker 1: folk festival. Oh, he said, stroking his fluffy chin. Let's

00:04:16

Speaker 1: see now the folk festival. You know, it's all about

00:04:21

Speaker 1: truly connecting with nature. There's music, an there's crafts, and

00:04:28

Speaker 1: there are performances that take us out of our heads

00:04:31

Speaker 1: and put us in our bodies. Or sometimes they take

00:04:36

Speaker 1: us out of our bodies and put us up in

00:04:38

Speaker 1: the stars. Listen to the full episode by joining the
