Speaker 1: the supercast link in the show notes. Anyway, here's a
00:00:25
Speaker 1: preview of this very special episode. If you go up
00:00:35
Speaker 1: the hill that leads out of Lower Starry Skies, passing
00:00:39
Speaker 1: by the Dimple Dumpling Cafe with its colorful chairs and
00:00:43
Speaker 1: tables spilling out onto the pavement, passing by where there's
00:00:47
Speaker 1: a wool there's a way where Missus Woollingworth lives with
00:00:50
Speaker 1: her little fluffball of a cat named Diesel, and passing
00:00:55
Speaker 1: by the bookshop neither up nor down, where if you're
00:00:58
Speaker 1: very lucky, you'll catch the books reading themselves aloud to
00:01:01
Speaker 1: each other late at night. You'll end up in Upper
00:01:04
Speaker 1: Starry Skies. And if when you reach the crossroads in
00:01:10
Speaker 1: Upper Starry Skies you were to turn right, you'll be
00:01:13
Speaker 1: on the lane that leads to Moonbeam on the Wold.
00:01:17
Speaker 1: There are high hedgerows on either side all along the way,
00:01:20
Speaker 1: so it feels as if you're disappearing into a completely
00:01:24
Speaker 1: hidden world. And to be honest, you're probably right to
00:01:27
Speaker 1: think that hardly anyone knows about Moonbeam on the Wold.
00:01:32
Speaker 1: It's such a long way along such a long lane,
00:01:35
Speaker 1: but seems to be going nowhere at all that most
00:01:37
Speaker 1: people give up and think they've taken a wrong turn.
00:01:41
Speaker 1: But Aunt Tilly knows it's there, And today she's decided
00:01:45
Speaker 1: that it's time for Bow to make his very first
00:01:48
Speaker 1: visit to Moonbeam on the Wold. There are some very
00:01:52
Speaker 1: important creatures there who she'd like him to meet. And
00:01:56
Speaker 1: the other day he said something that made her think
00:01:59
Speaker 1: about it, Aunt Tilly. He said, as he spread a
00:02:04
Speaker 1: thick dollop of strawberry jam across his toast. We're taking
00:02:08
Speaker 1: a school trip to the beach next week and we're
00:02:11
Speaker 1: going to use metal detectors. Aunt Tilly looked at him
00:02:17
Speaker 1: kindly across the top of her teacup. Sounds wonderful, dear,
00:02:22
Speaker 1: she said. The look on Bou's face suggested he had
00:02:26
Speaker 1: something he wanted to ask. Yes, what is it, dear?
00:02:32
Speaker 1: Bou fidgeted, How do they work metal detectors? I mean,
00:02:39
Speaker 1: how do they know where there's metal? Hmmm. I think
00:02:45
Speaker 1: it's something to do with magnets, she said, scrunching up
00:02:50
Speaker 1: her forehead and trying to remember something that she would
00:02:54
Speaker 1: have known an awfully long time ago. Yes, that's sound
00:03:00
Speaker 1: about right, you know, years ago, aunt Tilly said, disappearing
00:03:06
Speaker 1: into a memory with a far off look on her face.
00:03:09
Speaker 1: I lost a necklace that was very precious to me.
00:03:15
Speaker 1: I was sure it had to be somewhere in the garden.
00:03:19
Speaker 1: But no matter how hard I searched in amongst the
00:03:22
Speaker 1: strawberries and the radishes, and the rhue barb and the
00:03:26
Speaker 1: raspberry canes, I just couldn't find it. She stopped and
00:03:32
Speaker 1: drifted off into the memory. Bo poured her back into
00:03:37
Speaker 1: the present. So you used a metal detector to find it,
00:03:42
Speaker 1: he said, hurrying the story along. Goodness me, no, dear,
00:03:48
Speaker 1: said Aunt Tilly. Terribly noisy things, h she shuddered. I
00:03:53
Speaker 1: don't want something beeping its way around my garden. Beau
00:03:58
Speaker 1: watched as her eyes drifted away again. But you got
00:04:04
Speaker 1: the necklace back, he finally asked, of course, dear. She
00:04:10
Speaker 1: looked into his eyes and smiled. It's this one, she said,
00:04:15
Speaker 1: pulling on a long chain around her neck, from which
00:04:19
Speaker 1: a sparkling green emerald hung on a pendant glittering with
00:04:23
Speaker 1: a circle of diamonds. The magpie brought it back, finest
00:04:30
Speaker 1: metal Detector I know, She laughed, and popped the gleaning
00:04:34
Speaker 1: emerald back inside her buttoned up cardigan and smiled once
00:04:39
Speaker 1: more at bow over her teacup. I'm sure you'll have
00:04:43
Speaker 1: a wonderful time at the beach. You must tell me
00:04:47
Speaker 1: all about it, Bo promised he would, and a few
00:04:51
Speaker 1: days later he was back with his stories of zapping
00:04:54
Speaker 1: the sand and waiting to hear the metal detector's sharp
00:04:58
Speaker 1: squeals of excitement, and as it found something, and how
00:05:03
Speaker 1: he dug a little and found coins and a spoon
00:05:06
Speaker 1: and an ear ring in the shape of a parrot.
00:05:10
Speaker 1: Where it's a start, I suppose, said Aunt Tillie, agreeing
00:05:15
Speaker 1: that the parrot shaped earring was indeed very pretty, but
00:05:19
Speaker 1: quite useless without its pair. Listen to the full episode
