Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome back to Kuala Moon, a podcast of

00:00:14

Speaker 1: original children's bedtime stories and meditations designed to make bedtime

00:00:19

Speaker 1: a tree. Tonight, I'd like to give Logan a very

00:00:24

Speaker 1: special mention, as he, along with very very many of you,

00:00:29

Speaker 1: has been patiently waiting for another story about his favorite

00:00:33

Speaker 1: two K nine characters, Hector and Sonny. His mum messaged us,

00:00:38

Speaker 1: as many of you have done, on the Coco Sleep

00:00:40

Speaker 1: website or via Atcocosleep dot fm on Instagram, with a

00:00:44

Speaker 1: lovely kind note, and so this one's for you, Logan. Tonight,

00:00:50

Speaker 1: we're heading back to the street where our wonderful, daring

00:00:54

Speaker 1: doggie duo Hector and Sonny live. They've shared so many

00:00:59

Speaker 1: magical adventures and outlandish escapades together it's hard to imagine

00:01:03

Speaker 1: them ever resting, but napping is something they both love

00:01:08

Speaker 1: to do. Today, Sonny is having a playdate at Hector's house,

00:01:13

Speaker 1: and even though it's time for the dogs to have

00:01:15

Speaker 1: a nap, they can't sleep because there are so many

00:01:18

Speaker 1: fun things to do.

00:01:21

Speaker 2: They go for a walk in the park and they

00:01:24

Speaker 2: meet their kind friends Sydney the squirrel. Using his magical

00:01:29

Speaker 2: meditation skills, Sydney helps the dogs fall asleep, and they

00:01:34

Speaker 2: have a very RESTful afternoon nap. Why don't you also

00:01:40

Speaker 2: settle down in your comfy place, pull up your blanket,

00:01:44

Speaker 2: and tuck yourself in as I read you. Hector and

00:01:48

Speaker 2: Sonny take an afternoon nap. By Jillian Rogerson. It was

00:02:00

Speaker 2: early afternoon in A beautiful golden retriever by the name

00:02:04

Speaker 2: of Hector was looking out of the living room window

00:02:07

Speaker 2: of the house he shared with his owner. Hector's front

00:02:11

Speaker 2: paws rested on the window sill, and he looked left

00:02:15

Speaker 2: and right along the street. Where was she? She should

00:02:21

Speaker 2: have been here by now. He'd been waiting and waiting

00:02:26

Speaker 2: and waiting. Perhaps he would see better if he looked

00:02:31

Speaker 2: out of the upstairs window. Hector ran out of the

00:02:35

Speaker 2: living room and bounded up the stairs. He barked out

00:02:39

Speaker 2: a loud hello to his owner, who was working in

00:02:42

Speaker 2: his office. His owner jumped out of his seat a

00:02:45

Speaker 2: little in surprise and watched Hector go dashing by. Hector

00:02:51

Speaker 2: raced into his owner's bedroom and over to the window.

00:02:55

Speaker 2: Once again. He put his paws on the window sill

00:02:58

Speaker 2: and stared out of the window left and right. He looked,

00:03:04

Speaker 2: then right and left, and left and right again. Bubbles

00:03:10

Speaker 2: of happiness popped in his tummy. She would be here soon,

00:03:14

Speaker 2: he could sense it. Sonny, his very best friend in

00:03:19

Speaker 2: the whole wide world, was coming over for a playdate,

00:03:23

Speaker 2: and Hector couldn't wait to see her. He had lots

00:03:27

Speaker 2: of fun activities planned for them. A familiar car drove

00:03:32

Speaker 2: along the road and stopped outside Hector's house. Hector saw

00:03:38

Speaker 2: a dog with golden brown fur and beautiful light eyes

00:03:42

Speaker 2: sitting in the back seat. It was sunny.

00:03:47

Speaker 1: She was here.

00:03:49

Speaker 2: Hector's heart danced and he howled with joy. His tail

00:03:55

Speaker 2: wagged furiously, and he spun around three times in utter excitement.

00:04:01

Speaker 2: Hector ran out of the bedroom and into his owner's office.

00:04:05

Speaker 2: He barked twice to let his owner know Sonny was here,

00:04:09

Speaker 2: and then he bounded downstairs and sat right next to

00:04:13

Speaker 2: the front door with a big doggie grin on his golden,

00:04:18

Speaker 2: fluffy face. There was a knock at the door. His

00:04:23

Speaker 2: owner came down the stairs, smiled at Hector and asked

00:04:27

Speaker 2: him to kindly move to the side so he could

00:04:30

Speaker 2: open the door. Hector moved a little bit. His owner

00:04:36

Speaker 2: opened the door, and inbounded Sonny. Her huge smile matched Hector's.

00:04:43

Speaker 2: Hector barked and said, Hi, I'm so glad you're here.

00:04:49

Speaker 2: I've been waiting, ages for ages and ages. What do

00:04:54

Speaker 2: you want to do first? Sonny said, I don't know.

00:05:00

Speaker 2: Can I have a look around your home? Please? I

00:05:04

Speaker 2: know I've been here before, but I like to have

00:05:06

Speaker 2: a nosy in case there's anything different. Have you got

00:05:10

Speaker 2: any new toys, any of those squeaky ones. I've got some,

00:05:14

Speaker 2: and my only keeps playing hide and seek with them.

00:05:18

Speaker 2: Sonny chuckled in that sweet way of hers and added,

00:05:23

Speaker 2: no matter where she hides my squeaky toys, I always

00:05:26

Speaker 2: find them. Hector chuckled too. He asked Sonnie to go

00:05:32

Speaker 2: with him and he'd take her on a tour. Sonny

00:05:37

Speaker 2: barked a good bye to her owner and trotted after Hector.

00:05:42

Speaker 2: Sonny's owner said to Hector's owner, are you sure it's

00:05:47

Speaker 2: ok to have Sonny all day? Of course, he replied,

00:05:53

Speaker 2: she's no trouble at all. Hector loves having her here.

00:05:59

Speaker 2: Sonny's owner nodded and said, thank you. Sonny is due

00:06:04

Speaker 2: for a nap soon. I've bought her special blanket in

00:06:07

Speaker 2: case she needs it. She loves having a nap. Sometimes

00:06:12

Speaker 2: when it's a hot day, she sleeps on her back

00:06:15

Speaker 2: with all four legs in the air, and they twitch

00:06:18

Speaker 2: as though she's running. Hits so sweet, Hector's owner said.

00:06:24

Speaker 2: Hector sometimes curled up when he was asleep, and he

00:06:27

Speaker 2: looked like a golden croissant. He said, Hector loves having

00:06:32

Speaker 2: naps too, and falls asleep very easily. I expect they'll

00:06:37

Speaker 2: both have a nap soon. They chatted a little longer

00:06:42

Speaker 2: and then said goodbye. Hector's owner went in search of

00:06:47

Speaker 2: the two dogs and found them in the living room.

00:06:51

Speaker 2: They were standing with their front paws on the window sill.

00:06:55

Speaker 2: They were barking quietly to each other and kept making

00:06:59

Speaker 2: a noise that sounded like a laugh. Hector's owner smiled

00:07:05

Speaker 2: fondly at the dogs and wondered what they would say

00:07:08

Speaker 2: if they could talk. He went into the kitchen to

00:07:12

Speaker 2: make himself a cup of tea. Hector said to Sonny,

00:07:19

Speaker 2: missus Brown over the road goes shopping soon, so we

00:07:23

Speaker 2: should give her a wave and say hello. And the

00:07:27

Speaker 2: postwoman will be here later on, so we'll give her

00:07:30

Speaker 2: a wave too. We might see a little boy coming

00:07:34

Speaker 2: back from his playgroup with his mum. They lived down

00:07:38

Speaker 2: the road. We should give them two waves, maybe three.

00:07:44

Speaker 2: That's a lot of waving. Sonny said, I'd better practice.

00:07:51

Speaker 2: She waved her poor at some cats in next door's garden.

00:07:55

Speaker 2: They waved back. Hector noticed a door opening across the street.

00:08:03

Speaker 2: Oh look, there's missus Brown. Hello, Missus Brown. He waved

00:08:09

Speaker 2: his poor at the elderly woman who was coming out

00:08:12

Speaker 2: of her front door carrying empty shopping bags. Sonny waved

00:08:18

Speaker 2: at Missus Brown too. Missus Brown waved happily at the

00:08:22

Speaker 2: two dogs and blew the mickyss. She went on her

00:08:26

Speaker 2: way down the road. Hector said, we don't have to

00:08:33

Speaker 2: do any more waving for a while. Let's go into

00:08:36

Speaker 2: the kitchen and I'll show you my den. The dogs

00:08:41

Speaker 2: trotted into the kitchen just as Hector's owner was coming out.

00:08:46

Speaker 2: Hector and Sonny barked out a hello and padded past him.

00:08:53

Speaker 2: Hector led his friend over to the kitchen table and

00:08:56

Speaker 2: said it was a special den, and sometime he pretended

00:09:01

Speaker 2: it was a car that changed into an aeroplane, and

00:09:04

Speaker 2: the aeroplane sometimes changed into a magic bed that flew

00:09:09

Speaker 2: through the stars. He said, do you want to play

00:09:14

Speaker 2: at pretend?

00:09:15

Speaker 1: Now?

00:09:16

Speaker 2: You can drive the car. Sonny was about to say yes,

00:09:20

Speaker 2: but when she opened her mouth, her little yawn came out. Oh, oh, Hector,

00:09:27

Speaker 2: I'm sorry about yawning. I feel a bit tired. I

00:09:32

Speaker 2: usually have a nap about this time. Oh. She yawned again.

00:09:38

Speaker 2: Hector said he usually had a nap too, but he

00:09:42

Speaker 2: hadn't finished showing her around the house yet, and they

00:09:46

Speaker 2: hadn't even started to play with the toys he'd hidden

00:09:48

Speaker 2: in his basket. Sonny blinked tiredly and said, in that case,

00:09:57

Speaker 2: she would have a nap later on. She followed Hector

00:10:01

Speaker 2: out of the kitchen back into the living room. Hector's

00:10:06

Speaker 2: owner was sitting in the middle of the sofa. He

00:10:10

Speaker 2: patted the cushion next to him and gave Hector an

00:10:13

Speaker 2: expectant look. Sonny asked her friend what was going on.

00:10:20

Speaker 2: Hector said, he wants me to have a nap. He

00:10:25

Speaker 2: likes it when I snuggled up next to him on

00:10:27

Speaker 2: the sofa. He's left room on the other side for you.

00:10:33

Speaker 2: But I'm not having a nap yet, Sonny said. She yawned,

00:10:40

Speaker 2: I'm not at all tired. Hector yawned, Oh, I'm not

00:10:47

Speaker 2: tired either. Come on, Let's have a look out of

00:10:51

Speaker 2: the window again. The postwoman'll be here soon, Sonny, Let's

00:10:57

Speaker 2: chase each other round the sofa on the way. Sonny

00:11:01

Speaker 2: was too tired to run around the sofa, so she

00:11:04

Speaker 2: walked slowly instead. Hector walked too, because his legs had

00:11:10

Speaker 2: run out of energy. The two friends returned to the

00:11:16

Speaker 2: window and were just in time to see the postwoman

00:11:20

Speaker 2: walking along the garden path. The dogs gave her happy waves.

00:11:27

Speaker 2: She waved back to them and put a parcel through

00:11:30

Speaker 2: Hector's front door. Hector barked in delight and told Sonny

00:11:37

Speaker 2: that racing his owner to the post was one of

00:11:40

Speaker 2: his favorite games, and he told Sonnie to do it too.

00:11:45

Speaker 2: The two dogs were fast, but Hector's owner was faster

00:11:50

Speaker 2: and he got to the parcel first. He picked it

00:11:54

Speaker 2: up and put it on a shelf out of Hector's reach.

00:11:58

Speaker 2: His owner knelt next to the dogs and smiled gently

00:12:02

Speaker 2: at them. He began talking in a deep, soothing voice.

00:12:09

Speaker 2: Sonny yawned twice, Hector, what's your owner doing now? Why

00:12:17

Speaker 2: is he talking like that? Hector tried his best not

00:12:22

Speaker 2: to yawn, but he just couldn't help himself, and a

00:12:26

Speaker 2: huge yawn escaped from him. He told Sonny that his

00:12:31

Speaker 2: owner was using his soft nap voice and it always

00:12:36

Speaker 2: made Hector fall asleep. His owner continued talking in his deep,

00:12:43

Speaker 2: soft voice. The dogs couldn't stop yawning. They felt more

00:12:51

Speaker 2: and more tired. Sonny said, perhaps we should have a

00:12:57

Speaker 2: nap now. Always feel better after a nap, don't you,

00:13:05

Speaker 2: Hector said, I do. I think napping is like a superpower,

00:13:12

Speaker 2: and I feel like a new dog when I've had one.

00:13:16

Speaker 2: Let's go into the living room. The rug in front

00:13:20

Speaker 2: of the fire is lovely and soft, is the perfect

00:13:24

Speaker 2: place for a nap. On legs that were very, very tired,

00:13:31

Speaker 2: the dogs walked slowly into the living room. Sonny flocked

00:13:36

Speaker 2: onto the rug, her heavy eyes already closing. Just a minute, Sonny,

00:13:44

Speaker 2: you need a shoe. I'll get you one. Hector rummaged

00:13:48

Speaker 2: about in his basket and found a pair of shoes

00:13:52

Speaker 2: that he'd decided his owner didn't need any more. He

00:13:56

Speaker 2: gave one to Sonny and said, I always sleep better

00:14:01

Speaker 2: when I'm resting my chin on a shoe. I don't

00:14:04

Speaker 2: know why it works, but it does have a go

00:14:10

Speaker 2: Sonny rested her chin on the shoe, smiled sleepily at

00:14:14

Speaker 2: Hector and said the shoe did feel comfy there. Hector

00:14:20

Speaker 2: laid at her side and put the other shoe under

00:14:23

Speaker 2: his chin. He let out a contented sigh and closed

00:14:29

Speaker 2: his tired eyes. He heard his owner coming into the

00:14:34

Speaker 2: room and sitting on the sofa. He was quietly humming

00:14:38

Speaker 2: a happy tune. Sonny and Hector felt warm and relaxed,

00:14:46

Speaker 2: cozy and happy. They felt themselves drifting towards sleep. Hector

00:14:55

Speaker 2: let out another long yawn. Sonny yawn on to, but

00:15:02

Speaker 2: to her utter surprise, her yawn turned into a loud snort.

00:15:08

Speaker 2: Hector's eyes opened. What was that strange noise? Sonny? Did

00:15:15

Speaker 2: you hear it? It was like a yawn snort? Sonny blinked,

00:15:22

Speaker 2: It was me. I don't know where it came from.

00:15:26

Speaker 2: It just popped out. She gave him an embarrassed grin.

00:15:32

Speaker 2: Hector grinned back at her. It was a funny noise.

00:15:37

Speaker 2: Do it again. Sonny tried to make the same noise,

00:15:42

Speaker 2: but other sounds came out instead, grunts, snuffles, wheezes, and

00:15:49

Speaker 2: a couple of hiccups. Each noise made the dogs giggle

00:15:54

Speaker 2: more and more. Hector sat up and made some strange

00:16:00

Speaker 2: noises too, hoots, huffs, whistles, and, to their astonishment, a meow.

00:16:10

Speaker 2: Sonny sat up and laughed and laughed at her funny friend.

00:16:17

Speaker 2: Hector's owner gave the dogs a puzzled look and wondered

00:16:21

Speaker 2: why they were suddenly wide awake. His brow wrinkled up

00:16:27

Speaker 2: as he tried to make sense of it. Then he

00:16:30

Speaker 2: smiled and looked like he'd had the most marvelous idea.

00:16:36

Speaker 2: He stood up and left the room. He returned with

00:16:40

Speaker 2: two dog leads and said the magic words, Let's go

00:16:46

Speaker 2: to the park. Hector and Sonny got to their feet

00:16:50

Speaker 2: and wagged their tails happily. A few minutes later, Hector

00:16:57

Speaker 2: and Sonny were walking with Hector's owner along the familiar

00:17:01

Speaker 2: streets that led to the park. Sonny said, Hector, what

00:17:08

Speaker 2: should we do when we get to the park. She

00:17:12

Speaker 2: yawned and blinked tiredly. Hector yawned too. He said, if

00:17:21

Speaker 2: anyone is playing frisbee or football, we can join in

00:17:25

Speaker 2: with them. If there are any squirrels, we can chase them. Oh,

00:17:31

Speaker 2: he yawned again. Sonny nodded and told him not to

00:17:36

Speaker 2: forget about collecting sticks and giving them to Hector's owner

00:17:40

Speaker 2: to take home. Hector said he wouldn't forget that. He

00:17:46

Speaker 2: yawned again and added, we don't have to do all

00:17:51

Speaker 2: those things today, though I'm a bit tired. Perhaps we

00:17:56

Speaker 2: should have stayed at home and had a nap. Sonny

00:18:01

Speaker 2: gave him a sleepy smile and said, we can have

00:18:06

Speaker 2: a nap later after we've had some more fun. Hector agreed.

00:18:13

Speaker 2: They arrived at the park and walked along the path

00:18:16

Speaker 2: through the trees. A gentle breeze drifted leisurely through the trees,

00:18:24

Speaker 2: making the leaves rustle softly. The flower beds were abundant

00:18:31

Speaker 2: with colorful blooms and silver laced ferns. Delicate aromas of

00:18:37

Speaker 2: lavender and rose perfumed the air. Hector's owner arrived at

00:18:43

Speaker 2: a bench and unfastened the dog's leaves. He sat down

00:18:48

Speaker 2: and gave them a look, as though expecting them to

00:18:51

Speaker 2: run across the grass like they normally did, but Hector

00:18:56

Speaker 2: and Sonny were too tired to do any of that.

00:19:01

Speaker 2: They saw people playing frisbee and football, but they didn't

00:19:06

Speaker 2: join in. They saw lots of squirrels scampering around the trees,

00:19:12

Speaker 2: but they didn't chase after them. They saw a couple

00:19:17

Speaker 2: of sticks on the grass, but they weren't tempted to

00:19:21

Speaker 2: pick them up, and when they saw their dog friends

00:19:26

Speaker 2: playing on the grass, they didn't run over and have

00:19:30

Speaker 2: a chat with them like they usually did. They were

00:19:35

Speaker 2: just too tired. Hector and Sonny sat down in front

00:19:41

Speaker 2: of Hector's owner and gazed softly at the park. Hector said,

00:19:51

Speaker 2: I wish I could have a nap, but my mind

00:19:56

Speaker 2: is too busy thinking about all the fun we could

00:19:59

Speaker 2: be having. I don't want to miss out on having fun,

00:20:05

Speaker 2: but I'm too tired to move. Sonny said she felt

00:20:11

Speaker 2: the same and suggested they try having a nap again.

00:20:18

Speaker 2: Hect asighed and said, I don't think I can, Sonny.

00:20:24

Speaker 2: I've got too many thoughts running inside my head. How

00:20:30

Speaker 2: can I get rid of em? Sonny said she didn't know,

00:20:35

Speaker 2: and she had lots of thoughts running around her head too.

00:20:41

Speaker 2: At that moment, a silver furred squirrel appeared in front

00:20:45

Speaker 2: of them. It was Sydney. He was a friend of

00:20:49

Speaker 2: theirs and he'd help the dogs go on many amazing adventures.

00:20:55

Speaker 2: Sydney smiled at the dogs and said hello again. I

00:21:01

Speaker 2: couldn't help but overhear your conversation. I often have many

00:21:06

Speaker 2: thoughts in my head too, but I've found a way

00:21:11

Speaker 2: to get rid of them.

00:21:14

Speaker 1: Have you.

00:21:16

Speaker 2: Hector asked, could you show us how to do that? Please?

00:21:22

Speaker 2: We really want to have a nap. Sydney said, of

00:21:27

Speaker 2: course he could show them. He sat down in front

00:21:33

Speaker 2: of the dogs and crossed his legs. In a slow,

00:21:39

Speaker 2: soothing voice, Sydney said, settle yourselves down on the soft,

00:21:46

Speaker 2: comfy grass. You can lie on your front or your back,

00:21:50

Speaker 2: or even curl up on your side, whatever feels comfortable

00:21:55

Speaker 2: for you. Gaze softly what is in front of you.

00:22:03

Speaker 2: Notice the little details of whatever that is. Let your

00:22:08

Speaker 2: focus often some more. Your eyes are feeling so very

00:22:15

Speaker 2: tired and heavy. Gently close your tired eyes. Now, imagine

00:22:24

Speaker 2: there are some little white feathers in front of you,

00:22:28

Speaker 2: bobbing gently in the air. Watch them, See how they

00:22:34

Speaker 2: dip and bob in front of you. Imagine those feathers

00:22:40

Speaker 2: are your thoughts, thoughts, bobbing gently in front of you.

00:22:49

Speaker 2: Take a deep breath in and slowly blow it out

00:22:55

Speaker 2: towards your thought feathers. Watch as some of your thought

00:23:01

Speaker 2: feathers are blown away, far far away, until you can't

00:23:09

Speaker 2: see them. Anymore. Take another deep breath in, slowly let

00:23:17

Speaker 2: it out. Blow some more of your thought feathers away,

00:23:23

Speaker 2: Watch them float away, far, far away, until you can't

00:23:30

Speaker 2: see them anymore. Another deep breath in and slowly blow

00:23:39

Speaker 2: it out. All your thought feathers are floating away, now

00:23:46

Speaker 2: further and further away, until you can't see them anymore.

00:23:54

Speaker 2: Take another deep breath in, slowly breathe out, breathing and breathing,

00:24:13

Speaker 2: And your eyes are so very tired, and it feels

00:24:21

Speaker 2: wonderful to keep them closed. A warm feeling of relaxation

00:24:28

Speaker 2: flows over your body, like a warm wave of sunshine.

00:24:34

Speaker 2: You are peaceful and calm and so very relaxed. It

00:24:42

Speaker 2: feels wonderful to rest, to sleep for a while. Let

00:24:49

Speaker 2: that warm feeling of relaxation wash over you again, like

00:24:55

Speaker 2: liquid sunshine. You are so very relaxed and sleepy. You

00:25:04

Speaker 2: drift easily into a relaxing nap. Sydney, the squirrels stopped talking.

00:25:16

Speaker 2: Hector and Sonny were fast asleep and enjoying a rest

00:25:23

Speaker 2: for Sydney settled down next to his friends, and he

00:25:32

Speaker 2: had a nap to
