Speaker 1: One bright sunny morning in the mountain area of Peru,

Speaker 1: Karma the Lama woke up and smiled. She had a

Speaker 1: long stretch, got out of bed and opened the curtains.

Speaker 1: It was a beautiful day. The sun shone down on

Speaker 1: the grassy fields that surrounded her cozy cottage. In the distance,

Speaker 1: she saw the magnificent mountains that were topped with snow.

Speaker 1: Karma loved climbing the mountains, and it was the perfect

Speaker 1: day for such an adventure. Perhaps she would meet some

Speaker 1: friends along the way. She had her breakfast and then




00:02:35

Speaker 1: set off on her journey. The air was warm and

Speaker 1: fresh on her face, and the path in front of

Speaker 1: her was smooth and inviting. Karma's grandpa lived nearby. She

Speaker 1: wondered if he would like to go with her, so

Speaker 1: she stopped at his house. Her grandpa was sitting in

Speaker 1: a stripy deck chair in his garden when Karma arrived.

Speaker 1: He gave her a day cheery hello and asked if

Speaker 1: she wanted to sit with him for a while. Karma

Speaker 1: gave her grandpa a hug and sat next to him.

Speaker 1: She told him about her plans for the day and

Speaker 1: asked if he wanted to climb the mountains too. He

Speaker 1: settled back further in his chair and said, Oh, I

Speaker 1: do like climbing mountains, but today feels like a day

Speaker 1: of rest for me. I'm going to sit here, bask

Speaker 1: in the warmth of the sun and met my mind

Speaker 1: wonder wherever it wants to go. He glanced at the

Speaker 1: long grass on his lawn. A small sigh escaped from him,

Speaker 1: and he told his granddaughter his day of rest would

Speaker 1: have to begin after he'd moan the lawn. He chuckled

Speaker 1: and said the grass had grown so quickly lately, and

Speaker 1: the garden was starting to look like the Amazon jungle.

Speaker 1: Karma smiles kind at her grandpa and said, I will

Speaker 1: mow the lawn for you. I love the smell of

Speaker 1: freshly cut grass, especially on such a sunny day as this.

Speaker 1: You stay right where you are and I'll get you

Speaker 1: a cup of tea. Then I'll get the law mower out.

Speaker 1: Before her grandpa could say a word in protest, Karma

Speaker 1: leapt out of her chair and ran into her grandpa's house.

Speaker 1: She used his favorite cup and quickly made him a

Speaker 1: cup of grass tea. She took it outside and handed




00:04:36

Speaker 1: it to him. He smiled at her and said thank you.

Speaker 1: Karma collected the lawn mower from the shed and got

Speaker 1: to work. Going back and forth over the grass was

Speaker 1: a relaxing activity, and she hummed happily to herself. The

Speaker 1: pleasing scent of freshly cut grass made her relax even more,

Speaker 1: and the lawn was soon looking much better. There were

Speaker 1: a lot of grass clippings left on the lawn. Karma

Speaker 1: knew her grandpa saved some of them to make his

Speaker 1: favorite tea, and he usually gave the rest away to

Speaker 1: his neighbors. She looked over at her grandpa to ask

Speaker 1: what she should do with the clippings, but he was

Speaker 1: fast asleep in his deck chair with the empty cup

Speaker 1: of tea on the ground. Karma didn't want to disturb him, so,

Speaker 1: being as quiet as she could, she put the lawn

Speaker 1: mower away and collected the grass clippings. She put some

Speaker 1: into the special container her grandpa kept in the kitchen

Speaker 1: to make his tea, and the rest of the clippings

Speaker 1: went into a basket. Even though her grandpa was fast asleep,

Speaker 1: Karma gave him a wave goodbye. She continued on her journey.

Speaker 1: With the basket of grass clippings in her hands, she

Speaker 1: was certain someone would like them. It wasn't long before

Speaker 1: Karma found some one busy in their garden. It was Alma,

Speaker 1: the alpaca. She had been one of Grandpa's neighbors for

Speaker 1: a long time and knew Karma well. Alma was a

Speaker 1: keen gardener who was always busy doing something in her

Speaker 1: beautiful garden. Alma waved at Karma and asked how she was.

Speaker 1: Karma said she was good and held up the basket

Speaker 1: of grass clippings and told the alpaca where they had

Speaker 1: come from. She asked Alma if she had any use

Speaker 1: for them. Alma broke into a wide smile and said absolutely.

Speaker 1: I need to put some around the carrots and potatoes

Speaker 1: that I'm growing. It helps to keep the moisture in

Speaker 1: the soil. When Karma asked how much she would like,

Speaker 1: Alma inspected the basket and asked if she could possibly

Speaker 1: have all of it please. She had a lot of

Speaker 1: vegetables in her garden and the grass clippings would cover

Speaker 1: them all. Karma smiled and said of course she could

Speaker 1: have them all. Alma said thank you, and then started

Speaker 1: laughing as she ran her hand over her fluffy arm,

Speaker 1: which was covered in soft wool. She said, I don't

Speaker 1: suppose you know anyone who would like some of my wool.

Speaker 1: I've been using a new shampoo recently, and my wooly

Speaker 1: covering has grown quicker than ever before, and I have

Speaker 1: to keep cutting it. I've got a big pile of

Speaker 1: wool inside my house, and I don't know what to

Speaker 1: do with it. Karma said she didn't need any wool,

Speaker 1: but offered to take it with her in case she

Speaker 1: met anyone who would like it. Alma thanked the kind

Speaker 1: lama and swapped the grass clippings in her basket for

Speaker 1: a pile of her soft wool. Karma waved goodbye to

Speaker 1: the alpaca and went on her way. The lama walked

Speaker 1: towards a line of gray rocks that were surrounded by

Speaker 1: long swaying grass. A group of young chinchillas were playing

Speaker 1: outside the rocks, and their cheerful laughter filled the air.

Speaker 1: The mother chinchillas were resting nearby and watching their young

Speaker 1: at play. Karma walked over to the mothers and said hello.

Speaker 1: She held up her basket and asked if they would

Speaker 1: like any alpaca wool. One of the mothers clasped her

Speaker 1: hands together in delight and said, this is just what

Speaker 1: we need. Our little ones are growing so fast and

Speaker 1: they keep getting too big for their clothes. We're always

Speaker 1: making new ones for them. Not only that, some of

Speaker 1: them are starting school soon and we'll need to knit

Speaker 1: school jumpers for them. One of the other mothers added,

Speaker 1: don't forget about their winter clothes too. I've already started

Speaker 1: knitting some scarves and gloves for my children. And there's

Speaker 1: also the matter of our cousins arriving soon. She told

Speaker 1: Karma that because the chinchillas loved living by the rocks,

Speaker 1: they had invited their cousins to join them there too.

Speaker 1: They were due to arrive any day soon and there

Speaker 1: would be many more chin chiller children to knit for.

Speaker 1: Karma looked at the playing children. There were a lot

Speaker 1: of them. Karma moved the basket closer and said they

Speaker 1: could have all the wool. The chinchillas were delighted and

Speaker 1: thanked the kind Lama. They asked if they could give

Speaker 1: her something in return. No, thank you, Karma replied with

Speaker 1: a smile. One of the mothers laughed and said, I

Speaker 1: don't suppose you know anyone who needs a pile of straw.

Speaker 1: We've been cutting some down to make room for our

Speaker 1: cousins and their new homes. We don't need it for anything,

Speaker 1: and you're welcome to take it. Karma offered to take

Speaker 1: the straw in case she met anyone on her walk

Speaker 1: who might need it. She swapped the soft alpack of

Speaker 1: wool in her basket for a pile of golden straw.

Speaker 1: She waved goodbye to the chinchillas and continued on her way.

Speaker 1: The sun shone warmly on the lama's back, and birds

Speaker 1: sang sweetly from the treetops. Karma walked on, getting ever

Speaker 1: closer to the mountains. She walked through an orchard and

Speaker 1: saw a ladder resting against a tree that was ripe

Speaker 1: with red apples. A mountain goat was about to climb

Speaker 1: the ladder, but when he saw Karma, he wave and

Speaker 1: said hello. He asked where she was going on such

Speaker 1: a lovely day. Karma said she was heading towards the mountains.

Speaker 1: She held up the basket of straw and asked if




00:11:54

Speaker 1: he would like any of it. The mountain goat chuckled

Speaker 1: and said it was just what he needed. His orchard

Speaker 1: had produced a lot more fruit that year, and he'd

Speaker 1: run out of straw baskets to put it in. The

Speaker 1: goat peered closer at the basket and asked if he

Speaker 1: could have some please. Of course, Karma said, take as

Speaker 1: much as you like. The mountain goat asked Karma if

Speaker 1: she'd ever made any baskets before. When she said no,

Speaker 1: he offered to teach her the art of basket making.

Speaker 1: Karma said yes and thanked the goat for his kindness.

Speaker 1: The goat told her to sit under the shade of

Speaker 1: the apple tree. With lightning speed, he dashed up the




00:12:48

Speaker 1: ladder and picked a couple of ripe apples from the branches.

Speaker 1: He returned to the lama and gave her one of




00:12:57

Speaker 1: the apples bit into it. The apple was delicious and




00:13:05

Speaker 1: tasted of warm sunshine and refreshing rain. The mountain goat

Speaker 1: and the lama crunched on their apples and talked happily




00:13:17

Speaker 1: about one thing and another. When they had finished eating

Speaker 1: their apples, the goat showed Karma how to make a




00:13:25

Speaker 1: straw basket. It was a bit tricky at first, but

Speaker 1: Karma kept trying and she soon worked out how to




00:13:35

Speaker 1: bend the pieces of straw over each other. She held




00:13:40

Speaker 1: up her finished basket to show the goat. He was




00:13:45

Speaker 1: very impressed and said she needed some fruit to go

Speaker 1: inside the basket. Not only did he have apples in




00:13:54

Speaker 1: his orchard, but he had pears, oranges and lemons too.

Speaker 1: The goat led Karma through the orchards and together they

Speaker 1: collected enough fruit to fill the lama's basket. Karma looked

Speaker 1: upon the full basket. There was a lot of fruit,

Speaker 1: and she asked if he wanted some. No, you can

Speaker 1: have it all, he replied, as you can see, I

Speaker 1: have plenty. Karma looked at the remaining straw in the

Speaker 1: basket she had brought with her. She gave it to

Speaker 1: the mountain goat and said he could have all of

Speaker 1: the straw and the basket as well. The two friends




00:14:44

Speaker 1: said goodbye, and Karma continued on her way. The lama

Speaker 1: hummed happily to herself as she walked along with the

Speaker 1: new basket in her hand. She left the orchard behind

Speaker 1: and began walking along a pebbled path that led to

Speaker 1: the mountains. As she walked on, calmer looked towards the

Speaker 1: top of the mountains, She couldn't see the very top

Speaker 1: of them because a layer of thick white clouds was

Speaker 1: swirling around the mountains. It made the mountains look magical,

Speaker 1: as though an enchanted land lay above the clouds. She

Speaker 1: reached the foot of the nearest mountain and began her

Speaker 1: climb along the winding path that led upwards. Karma walked

Speaker 1: past some leafy trees and heard birds singing beautiful songs

Speaker 1: from the branches. She stopped at a tree and looked

Speaker 1: at the birds nestled inside it. She saw six umbrella

Speaker 1: birds perched on the branch. They were singing a soothing song.

Speaker 1: The distinctive crest of black feathers on their little heads

Speaker 1: looked like tiny umbrellas and made Karma smile. She had

Speaker 1: never seen any of the lovely umbrella birds before, but

Speaker 1: her grandpa had, and he told her all about them.

Speaker 1: The soft lullaby coming from the birds filled Karma's heart

Speaker 1: with joy. The umbrella birds finished their song and said

Speaker 1: hello to the Lama. Charma said they were wonderful singers

Speaker 1: and she had enjoyed listening to their song. She held

Speaker 1: up the basket of fruit and asked if they were

Speaker 1: like some the umbrella birds said they would love some fruit,

Speaker 1: because singing was very hungry work. Karma stayed with the

Speaker 1: birds for a while and chatted whilst they ate some

Speaker 1: of the scrumptious fruit. When they'd finished eating, the umbrella

Speaker 1: birds sang more songs for Karma. They taught her the words,

Speaker 1: but Karma couldn't remember them all, so she hummed along instead.

Speaker 1: After a while, Karma said goodbye to the birds and

Speaker 1: continued climbing the mountain, the basket of fruit secure in

Speaker 1: her hand. Up the winding path, she went, yetting closer

Speaker 1: to the clouds that hung low over the mountains like

Speaker 1: a fluffy white blanket. Bright kids bloomed in nooks and

Speaker 1: crannies in the mountain face, and she caught a hint

Speaker 1: of their flowery fragrance. Soon, a light mist touched her face,

Speaker 1: The view before her was magnificent. Patches of fluffy clouds

Speaker 1: lay between the snow capped mountaintops. The tallest trees reached

Speaker 1: through the clouds and stretched their branches up towards the

Speaker 1: blue sky. Karma was on top of the world. She

Speaker 1: took some deep, relaxing breaths. The mountain air was fresh

Speaker 1: and clean. Peace and tranquility flowed effortlessly through her. Her

Speaker 1: voice at her side said, it's quite beautiful, isn't it.

Speaker 1: I see this view every day and I never grow

Speaker 1: tired of it. Karma looked away from the view and

Speaker 1: saw a little monkey by her side. It was a

Speaker 1: yellow tailed wooly monkey, and he was wearing an orange waistcoat.

Speaker 1: Carma knew the special monkeys lived in the mountains somewhere,

Speaker 1: but she'd never seen one, and neither had her grandpa.

Speaker 1: The monkey smiled and said his name was Marlowe. Karma

Speaker 1: introduced herself. She didn't know what yellow tailed wooly monkeys ate,

Speaker 1: so she offered him some of her fruit. Marlowe said

Speaker 1: thank you, He loved fruit especially. He invited Karma to

Speaker 1: stay with him for a while as he wanted to

Speaker 1: know where she had traveled from. He took her over

Speaker 1: to a rock and the two animals sat on top

Speaker 1: of it. The little monkey bit into one of the

Speaker 1: juicy pears and smiled in joy at the succulent taste

Speaker 1: of it. Karma told him about her day and the

Speaker 1: animals she had met on her walk. As she spoke

Speaker 1: about the gifts she had passed from one animal to

Speaker 1: the next, she realized how kind everyone had been, and

Speaker 1: her heart overflowed with love for having such thoughtful neighbors.

Speaker 1: She told the monkey what she was thinking, and he

Speaker 1: smiled too. Marlowe said, it is good to give things

Speaker 1: to others, but it's also important to receive gifts too.

Speaker 1: Giving needs to be balanced with receiving. When it works

Speaker 1: both ways, everyone is happy. Karma wasn't sure what he meant,

Speaker 1: and asked him to explain more. The monkey ate the

Speaker 1: last of his pear and wiped his mouth with his

Speaker 1: yellow tail. He said to Karma, because you gave me

Speaker 1: this wonderful fruit. I'd like to give you something as

Speaker 1: a thank you, not because I have to, but because

Speaker 1: I want to, and it will make me feel good too.

Speaker 1: Karma said he didn't have to give her anything, because

Speaker 1: being with him and sharing the wonderful view was enough

Speaker 1: of a gift. A monkey. He nodded in understanding, but

Speaker 1: said he would still like to give her something. He

Speaker 1: reached into a pocket in his waistcoat and pulled a

Speaker 1: small lightem out. He held it up so that Karma

Speaker 1: could see what it was. The monkey was holding a

Speaker 1: perfectly sculpted model of himself, complete with a yellow tail

Speaker 1: and an orange waistcoat. Marlow told the larmer he had

Speaker 1: made it himself from the mud at the bottom of




00:23:36

Speaker 1: the mountain. Once he'd made it, the mud had dried

Speaker 1: in the clear air at the top of the mountain.

Speaker 1: He loved making things, and with a grin, he said

Speaker 1: he loved playing in the mud too. Please do take

Speaker 1: it with you, Marlow said. Karma took the model and

Speaker 1: placed it carefully in her basket. She said, thank you.

Speaker 1: I will treasure this forever. It will be getting dark

Speaker 1: and rain began to fall from the clouds. Karma was

Speaker 1: concerned her monkey sculpture would get wet, but she needn't
