Speaker 1: Koala Shine. Hey Kohala kids, and welcome to our brand
00:00:12
Speaker 1: new show, Koala Shine. I'm Kelly, and I'll be reading
00:00:16
Speaker 1: you daytime stories and giving you facts and ideas that
00:00:19
Speaker 1: will rock your world. Wow, isn't it a beautiful day
00:00:24
Speaker 1: to day? The sun is shining, the sky is blue.
00:00:29
Speaker 1: Oh wait, what's that? Where's the sun gone? It's gone
00:00:35
Speaker 1: all dark? Hello? Who turned out the lights? Oh? The
00:00:45
Speaker 1: Sun's back. Hmm it seems I just experienced a solar eclipse.
00:00:52
Speaker 1: In today's story, a koala named Coco experiences a solar
00:00:57
Speaker 1: eclipse whilst he's eating breakfast. Unfortunate for Cocoa, the sun
00:01:01
Speaker 1: doesn't come back. The world gets plunged into darkness, maybe
00:01:06
Speaker 1: forever without the sun. How is Coco going to find
00:01:14
Speaker 1: the eucalyptus leaves he needs to survive? You see, koalis
00:01:19
Speaker 1: need to eat a lot of eucalyptus leaps. They eat
00:01:22
Speaker 1: up to a third of their body weight and leaves
00:01:24
Speaker 1: every day. It's quite silly, really, as they aren't very nutritious,
00:01:29
Speaker 1: and that's why koalis feels sleepy a lot of the time.
00:01:33
Speaker 1: I know you're supposed to eat your greens, but that's
00:01:35
Speaker 1: just bananas. What do you think can Coco bring back
00:01:40
Speaker 1: the sunshine and save all of mankind? Oh, it's getting
00:01:45
Speaker 1: cold in here without the sun. Oh, let's find out right.
00:01:50
Speaker 1: Strap on your jetpacks and let's head off to meet Cocoa.
00:01:53
Speaker 1: Don't forget your sun's screen off. We God, it might
00:02:04
Speaker 1: only just be breakfast time. But already in the rolling
00:02:08
Speaker 1: blue sky above the eucalyptus forest, the sun is burning brightly.
00:02:14
Speaker 1: Cocoa is delighted. There's nothing he loves more than eating
00:02:18
Speaker 1: breakfast with his family while the sun beams down on them,
00:02:22
Speaker 1: warming their fur and tingling on their noses. Oh. Here
00:02:26
Speaker 1: he is now, with his mum and dad chomping away
00:02:29
Speaker 1: on eucalypsus leaves. Coco takes another bite of a leaf.
00:02:34
Speaker 1: M delicious. Eucalyptus grows by the light of the sun,
00:02:41
Speaker 1: and then it fills up my big hungry tom. That's right,
00:02:47
Speaker 1: Coco's mum says, nodding happily and plucking a leaf of
00:02:51
Speaker 1: her own from the trunk of the tree. The sun
00:02:54
Speaker 1: feeds the eucalyptus, and the eucalyptus feeds us. That's a
00:02:58
Speaker 1: great circle of life show, if you think about it,
00:03:03
Speaker 1: adds Coco's dad, who has just finished off a particularly
00:03:07
Speaker 1: succulent looking leaf. Or when you're reading eucalyptus, it's kind
00:03:11
Speaker 1: of like you're eating sunlight itself. Eating sunlight. What an
00:03:17
Speaker 1: unbelievably awesome idea. Coco takes another bite of a leaf
00:03:22
Speaker 1: and imagines a bright, golden ball of sunshine tumbling down
00:03:26
Speaker 1: his throat and into his belly. He looks down, he
00:03:30
Speaker 1: can almost see it glowing through the patch of white
00:03:33
Speaker 1: fur on his front. Eucalyptus grows by the light of
00:03:38
Speaker 1: the sun, And now the sun's shining right there in
00:03:42
Speaker 1: my tongue. So delighted as Coco by this magical thought
00:03:48
Speaker 1: that he's unaware at first when the strangest thing starts
00:03:51
Speaker 1: to happen. He's so busy munching merrily on his breakfast
00:03:55
Speaker 1: of sunshine that he doesn't notice that the sunshine is
00:03:58
Speaker 1: beginning to disappear. What's going on, asks his dad? Is
00:04:05
Speaker 1: it in our time already? It can't be, says his mum.
00:04:11
Speaker 1: The sun's only just come up. Coco looks around him.
00:04:17
Speaker 1: Suddenly it's got a little bit cold, and the eucalyptsus
00:04:21
Speaker 1: forest that's only moments before was bathed, and luscious light
00:04:25
Speaker 1: is now dim, as though a dark cloth has been
00:04:28
Speaker 1: laid over it. His dad was right, it's as though
00:04:32
Speaker 1: night has descended, and yet it's still daytime. Nervously, Coco
00:04:40
Speaker 1: and his parents look up into the sky, then cover
00:04:43
Speaker 1: their gasps with their paws. Up above, the sun is
00:04:47
Speaker 1: no longer yellow. It has turned into a black disk
00:04:51
Speaker 1: hanging in the sky for a few minutes. Coco's parents
00:04:56
Speaker 1: are very worried. They've never seen anything like this before,
00:05:00
Speaker 1: not in all their lives. But then, as the cold
00:05:06
Speaker 1: creeps through the forest and the darkness grows even thicker,
00:05:10
Speaker 1: Coco has an idea, like a light bulb going on
00:05:13
Speaker 1: in his brain. Cuthbert the camel knows all about the
00:05:17
Speaker 1: sun and the stars, he says, and all the strange
00:05:21
Speaker 1: and distant things that go on up in the sky.
00:05:24
Speaker 1: I bet he'll know what's going on up there. I'll
00:05:26
Speaker 1: go and visit him and see if there's anything we
00:05:28
Speaker 1: can do. Coko's parents think this is a brilliant idea,
00:05:34
Speaker 1: and his mum gives him a great big hug. He
00:05:37
Speaker 1: or a brave boy, Coco courage, We'll always see you through.
00:05:43
Speaker 1: This idea seems to soothe his parents. Great binking Coco,
00:05:47
Speaker 1: his mum cries, clapping her pauls together, and so Coco
00:05:52
Speaker 1: climbs down the tree and sets off for the edge
00:05:54
Speaker 1: of the eucalyptus forest, where Cuthbert the camel had recently
00:05:57
Speaker 1: been grazing. Because of the darkness, he has to tread
00:06:01
Speaker 1: more carefully than usual, taking ken not to step on
00:06:04
Speaker 1: any sharp stones or fallen twigs hidden in the long shadows.
00:06:09
Speaker 1: But soon enough he reaches the edge of the forest
00:06:11
Speaker 1: where he spots Cuthbert's and gives him a friendly wave. Cuthbert,
00:06:16
Speaker 1: he says, the sun's turned black. Can you shed any
00:06:20
Speaker 1: light on why the world has gone so dark? The
00:06:24
Speaker 1: camel looks down at the little koala and blows a
00:06:27
Speaker 1: raspberry through his lips, which is what camels do when
00:06:30
Speaker 1: they believe they've been asked a silly question. My life's
00:06:35
Speaker 1: great passion is to study the skies. Although star guys
00:06:39
Speaker 1: in me terribly wise, of course I can tell you
00:06:44
Speaker 1: just read my lips. What's happening is called a solar eclipse.
00:06:49
Speaker 1: Every few years, the moon crosses the sun and cuts
00:06:53
Speaker 1: its light off from everyone. So you mean, Coco says,
00:07:00
Speaker 1: trying extremely hard to wrap his head around what Cuthbert
00:07:03
Speaker 1: has just told him. That what's happened is completely natural.
00:07:09
Speaker 1: Oh yes, Cusbert replies, and this silar eclipse, ko Ko continues.
00:07:17
Speaker 1: It's happened before, and it will happen again. Cuthbert nods
00:07:22
Speaker 1: his big sandy colored head. Oh yes, so there's nothing
00:07:28
Speaker 1: to worry about and it will pass, ko Ko asks hopefully.
00:07:33
Speaker 1: Oh now, Cuthbert shakes his head sadly. No. No, The hope,
00:07:40
Speaker 1: which had been trickling warm as sunlight itself through Koko's body,
00:07:43
Speaker 1: is extinguished. What do you mean, though, he asks. Cuthbert
00:07:51
Speaker 1: looks up miserably towards the sky. Or you see, a
00:07:56
Speaker 1: silar eclipse is only meant to last a few seconds,
00:08:00
Speaker 1: but this one will It's lasted quite a bit longer
00:08:04
Speaker 1: than that. The frown that has etched itself on Koko's
00:08:08
Speaker 1: face clearly tells Cuthbert that he doesn't understand. Because the
00:08:11
Speaker 1: camel explains further, the moon is meant to pass on,
00:08:17
Speaker 1: letting the light from the sun fall back onto the Earth,
00:08:20
Speaker 1: but for some reason, it seems the moon has got stuck.
00:08:24
Speaker 1: Got stuck, Cooka repeats, incredulously. The camel knots it's right stuck,
00:08:32
Speaker 1: rode it to its spot and can't move, and now
00:08:35
Speaker 1: there will be darkness forever. Cuthbert's prophecy sends chills all
00:08:42
Speaker 1: through Coco's little Koala body. If it's possible, the sky
00:08:46
Speaker 1: gets even darker. He doesn't want to imagine a world
00:08:50
Speaker 1: in which there will never be any sunlight again. He
00:08:53
Speaker 1: thinks of his parents and all is Kohala, friends and family,
00:08:58
Speaker 1: who loves so much to feast on the yuk eclypsus leaves.
00:09:02
Speaker 1: If eucalyptus can't be fit by the light of the sun,
00:09:06
Speaker 1: then what will fill up my big hungry tom And
00:09:11
Speaker 1: with that sad thought, Coco, who is a courageous and
00:09:14
Speaker 1: optimistic little Koala, decides he will not let such a
00:09:18
Speaker 1: thing happen. Fueled by his fiery determination, Coco narrows his
00:09:23
Speaker 1: eyes at Cuthbert and asks, well, how do we stop it?
00:09:28
Speaker 1: Now it's Cuthbert's turn to look confused. Stop it? He asks?
00:09:34
Speaker 1: Stop what the darkness? Of course, says Coco, how do
00:09:39
Speaker 1: we get the moon un stuck? Well, Cuthbert sighs. He
00:09:46
Speaker 1: blows another raspberry, but not because he thinks the question
00:09:50
Speaker 1: is silly. This time, he's just deep in thought. I
00:09:54
Speaker 1: don't know. He finally says, well, what do you mean
00:09:58
Speaker 1: you don't know? Coco says, feeling a little frustrated. You're
00:10:02
Speaker 1: meant to be wise about everything that goes on in
00:10:04
Speaker 1: the skies. Oh, just because I know how it all works,
00:10:09
Speaker 1: says Cuthbert, doesn't mean I can do anything about it.
00:10:13
Speaker 1: You see, I'm only a camel. I don't have wings,
00:10:17
Speaker 1: and even if I did, I wouldn't be able to
00:10:19
Speaker 1: get up there. I can only observe the sun and
00:10:22
Speaker 1: moon and the stars from down here on Earth. If
00:10:25
Speaker 1: you wanted to do something about it, you need someone
00:10:27
Speaker 1: who but there Cuthbert stopped talking. A look of inspiration
00:10:33
Speaker 1: lit up his eyes. Aha, he cries, there's a thought.
00:10:39
Speaker 1: You'll have to ask Rocky the space Cowboy. Who's that.
00:10:45
Speaker 1: Koko begins to ask, but Cuthbert says, you'll see. Follow
00:10:50
Speaker 1: me and leads him along the edge of the forest
00:10:53
Speaker 1: tree line. Soon enough, they reach a little house and
00:10:57
Speaker 1: Cuthbert taps on the door with this hoof Rocky. He says, Mate,
00:11:03
Speaker 1: Coco and Coco, this is Rocky the Spice Cowboy. Before
00:11:10
Speaker 1: him stands one of the coolest creatures Coco has ever
00:11:13
Speaker 1: set his beady little eyes upon. Rocky is tall and
00:11:17
Speaker 1: powerfully built. He wears silver cowboy boots, silver chaps, and
00:11:22
Speaker 1: a silver waistcoat with a spangly fringe attached to the belt.
00:11:26
Speaker 1: At his waist is a golden coil of rope a lassou,
00:11:30
Speaker 1: and on his head, instead of a normal cowboy hat,
00:11:33
Speaker 1: he wears an astronaut's helmet. Oh, rad, alrad, howdy, how
00:11:39
Speaker 1: do you do? He asks Coco with a big, bright smile.
00:11:43
Speaker 1: Though Coco is in awe of Rocky, he wastes no
00:11:46
Speaker 1: time in telling him the predicament they find themselves in.
00:11:49
Speaker 1: How the moon has got stuck during the eclipse. Oh yeah,
00:11:55
Speaker 1: the space cowboy drawls, looking skyward. I sure did notice
00:11:59
Speaker 1: that too, So Coco asks, do you think he can
00:12:04
Speaker 1: help us? And with another dazzling smile, Rocky gives him
00:12:09
Speaker 1: a big thumbs up. I'm a space cowboy with a
00:12:14
Speaker 1: golden lassu. It's made for catching space cows and even
00:12:18
Speaker 1: planets too. I'll spin it round my head and wrap
00:12:22
Speaker 1: it round the moon, and with a big tug, turn
00:12:26
Speaker 1: nat down back to noon. Coco and Cuthbert great big
00:12:32
Speaker 1: smiles spreading over their faces agree that this sounds like
00:12:36
Speaker 1: a spectacular idea. Hold on a moment, Rocki says, holding
00:12:41
Speaker 1: up a finger. He returns into his house, and a
00:12:45
Speaker 1: few moments later returns wearing a jet pack on his back.
00:12:49
Speaker 1: Now hop on, Coco feels a little bit frightened about
00:12:54
Speaker 1: the prospect of going into space, but he can also
00:12:57
Speaker 1: feel the electric tingles of excitement ZIP zapping through him
00:13:01
Speaker 1: and swallowing his nerves, he climbs up onto the space
00:13:05
Speaker 1: cowboy's back. Hold on tat, cries Rocky, and then with
00:13:11
Speaker 1: a zing a bang and a whipping rush of air
00:13:14
Speaker 1: that makes all the hairs on Coco's body quiver and
00:13:16
Speaker 1: stand up, they are shooting up into the sky. Coco
00:13:21
Speaker 1: can see the eucalyptus forest spreading like a green lake
00:13:25
Speaker 1: below them, before they burst through the atmosphere and into
00:13:29
Speaker 1: outer space. Rocky slows down and floats in the zero gravity.
00:13:36
Speaker 1: Coco's still clinging to his back. He unhooks his golden
00:13:40
Speaker 1: lassou from his belt, holds it up around his head,
00:13:44
Speaker 1: then stops um. He mumbles, I might have forgot to
00:13:50
Speaker 1: mention I'm not very good with a las soue, but
00:13:55
Speaker 1: you're a space cowboy. Coco says, you sit, you could
00:14:00
Speaker 1: lessue the moon. I know, I know, says Rocky, blushing
00:14:06
Speaker 1: through the glass screen of his astronauts helmet. I was
00:14:09
Speaker 1: only trying to impress you, but the truth is I'm
00:14:13
Speaker 1: no good look. To prove his point, Rocky spins his
00:14:18
Speaker 1: golden lassoux around, tosses it throughout a space and misses
00:14:22
Speaker 1: the moon by a mile. Glumness seeps thickly through Coco's stomach.
00:14:30
Speaker 1: He can't believe the space cowboy can't lessue the moon.
00:14:33
Speaker 1: What will happen to the eucalyptus forest if the sun
00:14:36
Speaker 1: no longer shines. Coco takes a brave breath and says,
00:14:41
Speaker 1: try again once more. Rocky swings his lassoux around his head,
00:14:48
Speaker 1: tosses it forward and misses again. The space Cowboy looks despondent.
00:14:55
Speaker 1: I'm a failure, he whispers quietly to himself, and just
00:15:02
Speaker 1: then Coca remembers his mum giving him that big, warm
00:15:05
Speaker 1: hug in the eucalyptus forest and telling him how brave
00:15:09
Speaker 1: he is. Coco, still on Rocky's back, gives him a
00:15:15
Speaker 1: big squeeze. I know you can do it, he says, encouragingly,
00:15:21
Speaker 1: have courage, courage, We'll see you through. But Rocky still
00:15:26
Speaker 1: looks pretty unsure of himself. I think he needs some
00:15:31
Speaker 1: extra words of encouragement. Can you help me? Come on,
00:15:36
Speaker 1: let's work together to cheer Rocky on. You can do it, Rocky,
00:15:41
Speaker 1: say it with me. You can do it, Rocky. You
00:15:45
Speaker 1: can do it, Rocky. You can do it, Rocky. Look
00:15:50
Speaker 1: it's working. Rocky's heard our words and his nerves have disappeared.
00:15:55
Speaker 1: He looks good and confident now. Nice work, team. So,
00:16:00
Speaker 1: once more buoyed up by a new found hope from
00:16:03
Speaker 1: all those words of support, Rocky raises his lassu. He
00:16:08
Speaker 1: swings the golden, glinting whip around his head one, two,
00:16:13
Speaker 1: three times, and he throws it, and Rocky and Coco
00:16:18
Speaker 1: both break out in cheers. The rope is tied around
00:16:22
Speaker 1: the moon like a golden belt around a silver belly.
00:16:25
Speaker 1: You did it, Coco cries. Together. He and Rocky give
00:16:31
Speaker 1: the lasou one big or mighty tug, and after a moment,
00:16:36
Speaker 1: the moon gives way and starts to move grudgingly back
00:16:39
Speaker 1: into orbit. Bright golden sunlight leaks out from behind it.
00:16:44
Speaker 1: As the sun comes back into view. You've saved the day,
00:16:49
Speaker 1: Coco tells Rocky, No, wait, more than that, You've saved
00:16:54
Speaker 1: the whole planet. And even though it sounds like it
00:16:58
Speaker 1: should be impossible, the smile on Rocky's face beams brighter
00:17:02
Speaker 1: than the sun. When Cocoa and Rocky return to the
00:17:07
Speaker 1: eucalyptus forest, they find Coco's parents merrily chomping on another
00:17:11
Speaker 1: mound of green leaves. Ah, you're just in time for lunch,
00:17:16
Speaker 1: his father says, happily. Coco smiled and said, Eucalyptus grows
00:17:23
Speaker 1: by the light of the sun, and then it fills
00:17:26
Speaker 1: up my big hungry tom And that, I think is
00:17:32
Speaker 1: where we'll leave Coco, because watching him eat a big
00:17:35
Speaker 1: lunch with his family and new friend Rocky is making
00:17:38
Speaker 1: my stomach rumble with hunger. Hmm, I wonder what's the tea?
00:17:43
Speaker 1: Thank goodness for Rocky the space Cowboy and his golden lessou.
00:17:47
Speaker 1: Not many people could lassue the moon. You know what,
00:17:51
Speaker 1: do you think the biggest thing you could lessue is
00:17:54
Speaker 1: a pigeon, your mum, an elephant, a double day cabas. Personally,
00:18:02
Speaker 1: I was never that good at pea, So I'll leave
00:18:05
Speaker 1: the world saving and moon listening to you. Now, let's
00:18:09
Speaker 1: end with a joke. Do you know what time is
00:18:13
Speaker 1: Cowboy time? It's ten to ten to to tent to todent
00:18:18
Speaker 1: to de den dent. Then well that's it for now.
00:18:24
Speaker 1: Make sure you say thanks to the sun today, just
00:18:26
Speaker 1: for being there and growing food for all the camels,
00:18:29
Speaker 1: cowboys and Koalas of the world. See you later. Koala kids,
00:18:33
Speaker 1: keep unshining, Koala shine,
