Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome back to Kuala Moon, a podcast of

00:00:14

Speaker 1: original children's bedtime stories and meditations designed to make bedtime

00:00:20

Speaker 1: a dream. I don't know if you've heard, but sleep

00:00:24

Speaker 1: hq is buzzing with the news that Coco's Sleep has

00:00:28

Speaker 1: been nominated for a British Podcast Award. We're thrilled, and

00:00:33

Speaker 1: Coco is doing his little jig of joy. Can we

00:00:36

Speaker 1: ask you, our loyal listeners to help us try to

00:00:39

Speaker 1: win the Listeners Award too? Just follow the instructions in

00:00:43

Speaker 1: the show notes and ask all your friends and family

00:00:46

Speaker 1: to do the same. That really would be a dream

00:00:48

Speaker 1: come true. Back to tonight, I have no doubt that

00:00:52

Speaker 1: this story will be very popular with all you budding

00:00:56

Speaker 1: space travelers out there, or you lovers of small queue

00:01:00

Speaker 1: furry animals, and most of all, I think it will

00:01:04

Speaker 1: be a huge hip with my fellow cheese fans. In

00:01:08

Speaker 1: this captivating tail by Alicia, we learn once and for

00:01:12

Speaker 1: all the answer to a question that loomed large in

00:01:16

Speaker 1: my childhood, perhaps yours too. What is the moon really

00:01:20

Speaker 1: made of? Or more specifically, is the moon really made

00:01:25

Speaker 1: of cheese? Before we find out, let's get into bed

00:01:30

Speaker 1: and start relaxing. Our bodies ready to lie still and listen.

00:01:35

Speaker 1: Try wriggling around a bit to find your comfy spot.

00:01:40

Speaker 1: Stretch out your legs, your feet, point your toes for

00:01:44

Speaker 1: a few seconds, and wriggle your fingers. And now let

00:01:49

Speaker 1: everything go floppy. Take some nice deep breaths in and out,

00:02:01

Speaker 1: another one in and out, and now snuggle down a

00:02:07

Speaker 1: little bit more great. Now you're ready, it's time for

00:02:13

Speaker 1: me to begin. Mice on the Moon by Alicia Ainslie.

00:02:24

Speaker 1: Mice are known for three things. One they are tiny

00:02:29

Speaker 1: and fluffy, Two they speak with the most adorable, high

00:02:34

Speaker 1: pitched voices, and three they love cheese. And no mice

00:02:40

Speaker 1: love cheese more than Morty the mouse and his family.

00:02:45

Speaker 1: Morty was married to Martha, and together they had nine children.

00:02:51

Speaker 1: With so many little mouths to feed, Morty had to

00:02:55

Speaker 1: go out and work very hard to provide for his family,

00:02:58

Speaker 1: whilst Martha stayed at home and looked after the children.

00:03:02

Speaker 1: They were an excellent partnership, and as their little ones

00:03:05

Speaker 1: grew up, they became a great big team. Morty had

00:03:10

Speaker 1: spent his whole life working diligently around the clock to

00:03:14

Speaker 1: build a comfortable life for his family. When he had

00:03:18

Speaker 1: first started out he was swiping fallen pieces of food

00:03:22

Speaker 1: off the ground of human houses to take home to

00:03:25

Speaker 1: feed his little ones. But as the years went on,

00:03:28

Speaker 1: with plenty of graft, smart thinking, and quick wit, Morty

00:03:34

Speaker 1: eventually opened his own shop. It wasn't just any shop,

00:03:41

Speaker 1: it was a cheese shop. Morty, Martha and their children

00:03:45

Speaker 1: learned how to make their very own cheese and served

00:03:49

Speaker 1: it up on the counter of their little shop for

00:03:52

Speaker 1: other animals to buy each day. At first, business was

00:03:57

Speaker 1: booming and everybody wanted a taste the amazing smelly cheese

00:04:01

Speaker 1: that they created. They offered cheeses such as gowder and Brie, Cheddar, Edam, Camelbert,

00:04:10

Speaker 1: and blue cheese, just to name a few. Whatever people wanted, Morty,

00:04:16

Speaker 1: Martha and their family could whip it up in next

00:04:19

Speaker 1: to no time. However, as time went on, the other

00:04:25

Speaker 1: animals started to grow bored of cheese, and the number

00:04:28

Speaker 1: of customers walking through Morty's shop door dwindled by the day.

00:04:35

Speaker 1: On one particularly quiet day in the shop, Martha counted

00:04:39

Speaker 1: up the cash and the register, and Morty leant across

00:04:42

Speaker 1: the glass counter and sighed, huh, I don't think we've

00:04:48

Speaker 1: had one customer yet today. He sighed disappointedly. Martha Mouse

00:04:55

Speaker 1: continued rifling through the cash and the register and counted

00:04:59

Speaker 1: up they had. We have barely made any money this week,

00:05:05

Speaker 1: she confirmed, defeatedly. Nobody appreciates cheese any more like they

00:05:12

Speaker 1: used to. Mortie and Martha glanced behind them at their

00:05:18

Speaker 1: nine children sitting together in the back room. Their oldest child, Maggie,

00:05:24

Speaker 1: was teaching her little brothers and sisters a science lesson,

00:05:28

Speaker 1: like she did every Friday afternoon. Once the children were

00:05:33

Speaker 1: old enough, they took turns to help teach their siblings

00:05:37

Speaker 1: about different subjects, and they all learnt together. Today, Maggie

00:05:43

Speaker 1: was teaching them all about outer space. She pointed to

00:05:47

Speaker 1: a large diagram that she had drawn on the whiteboard

00:05:50

Speaker 1: as she spoke. Her younger siblings all gasped with delight

00:05:56

Speaker 1: as she taught them all about the different planets and

00:06:00

Speaker 1: stars that float in space millions of miles away. Morty

00:06:06

Speaker 1: and Martha smiled with pride and turned back to face

00:06:10

Speaker 1: their empty shop floor. How will we feed our children

00:06:17

Speaker 1: if we can't earn enough money, Martha whispered to Morty.

00:06:22

Speaker 1: We have lots of cheese to feed ourselves with right now,

00:06:27

Speaker 1: But when the money dries up, we will have no

00:06:30

Speaker 1: way to buy our ingredients anymore. Then we will be

00:06:34

Speaker 1: in a tricky place. Morty twirled his whiskers and thought hard.

00:06:43

Speaker 1: There had to be a way that they could keep

00:06:45

Speaker 1: their shop open and keep food on their table without

00:06:49

Speaker 1: the worry of running out of cheese. Morty looked back

00:06:54

Speaker 1: at his nine sweet children, so eager to learn and

00:06:59

Speaker 1: sew and thrall by the notion of space. He would

00:07:03

Speaker 1: do anything for them. Then suddenly a light bulb switched

00:07:09

Speaker 1: on inside Morty's head, and he had a thought. As

00:07:15

Speaker 1: Maggie pointed to the Moon on her class diagram, Morty

00:07:19

Speaker 1: record a myth that he had heard as a little boy.

00:07:24

Speaker 1: When he was younger, Morty's parents would tell him bedtime

00:07:28

Speaker 1: stories all about the moon and how it was made

00:07:31

Speaker 1: of the most delicious cheese. It was said that if

00:07:36

Speaker 1: you took a big bite out of the Moon, then

00:07:39

Speaker 1: you would taste the most scrumptious cheese you have ever tasted.

00:07:45

Speaker 1: You can even see the Moon's cheesy exterior from planet Earth.

00:07:50

Speaker 1: If you take a telescope and point it directly at

00:07:53

Speaker 1: the Moon and then zoom in close, you can see

00:07:57

Speaker 1: the holes in the moon's crater just like you find

00:08:01

Speaker 1: in a block of Swiss cheese. Morty had many pleasant

00:08:05

Speaker 1: dreams as a child where he walked on the moon

00:08:09

Speaker 1: and ate cheese all day every day. As far as

00:08:13

Speaker 1: Morty was aware, nobody had ever been to the moon

00:08:17

Speaker 1: to prove that this theory was correct, but maybe it

00:08:21

Speaker 1: was time somebody did. Morty, Martha, and their nine children

00:08:27

Speaker 1: woke up early every morning to make as much cheese

00:08:31

Speaker 1: as they could for the day in the shop. But

00:08:34

Speaker 1: wouldn't it be nice if the hard work was already

00:08:38

Speaker 1: done for them? Morty thought, if they could get to

00:08:42

Speaker 1: the moon and pack up as much cheese as possible,

00:08:46

Speaker 1: then they would have enough cheese to keep the shop

00:08:49

Speaker 1: running and the family fed for years to come. It's

00:08:54

Speaker 1: time for a little adventure, Morty decided to himself. In

00:09:01

Speaker 1: his limited spare time, Morty started to plan his ambitious mission.

00:09:08

Speaker 1: His plan was to build a tiny rocket ship with

00:09:11

Speaker 1: the help of his big family and fly up to

00:09:14

Speaker 1: the Moon to see if it was in fact made

00:09:18

Speaker 1: of cheese. Then, if the stories were true, they would

00:09:22

Speaker 1: pack up as much cheese as possible into their rocket

00:09:25

Speaker 1: ship and fly it back down to Earth to sell

00:09:29

Speaker 1: it was a simple plan in theory, but nothing is

00:09:33

Speaker 1: ever as easy as it first seems. To begin with,

00:09:37

Speaker 1: Morty had to convince his wife Martha that it was

00:09:40

Speaker 1: a good plan. At first, she was not impressed with

00:09:45

Speaker 1: his idea, and she thought that Morty had gone mad.

00:09:50

Speaker 1: You can't be serious, she cried, taken aback by Morty's suggestion.

00:09:57

Speaker 1: Mice don't go to the moon, Morty, and even if

00:10:01

Speaker 1: they did, they'd be sorely disappointed by the lack of

00:10:04

Speaker 1: cheese when they landed. You are bonkers. Despite his wife's protests,

00:10:12

Speaker 1: Morty still believed that it was worth a try. They

00:10:17

Speaker 1: would never know if the moon was truly made of

00:10:19

Speaker 1: cheese unless somebody went there to find out. The next

00:10:25

Speaker 1: problem was rather a big one. If Morty and his

00:10:29

Speaker 1: family were going to build a rocket ship big enough

00:10:33

Speaker 1: for all of them, then they would have a lot

00:10:36

Speaker 1: of work on their hands and a lot of studying

00:10:39

Speaker 1: to do. But in true Mouse fashion, they all worked

00:10:44

Speaker 1: together fantastically to put the plan into action. Maggie Mouse,

00:10:50

Speaker 1: their oldest daughter, started teaching the rest of the children

00:10:54

Speaker 1: lessons in space travel so they could learn what it

00:10:58

Speaker 1: took to send a rocket up into space. The second

00:11:03

Speaker 1: oldest child, Marley, started leading lessons in carpentry to teach

00:11:08

Speaker 1: them all the skills that they would need to fix

00:11:11

Speaker 1: up a rocket ship. Then the third oldest child, Murray,

00:11:17

Speaker 1: led art and design lessons in which they all had

00:11:21

Speaker 1: a go at designing the perfect rocket ship to send

00:11:25

Speaker 1: them up into space. After some time of learning and planning,

00:11:32

Speaker 1: the mouse family felt ready to embark upon the next

00:11:36

Speaker 1: important step. In order to build their rocket, they needed

00:11:42

Speaker 1: lots of large, strong materials to form the walls of

00:11:46

Speaker 1: their ship. By working together, they managed to find scraps

00:11:53

Speaker 1: of metal to create the outside walls, and little chairs

00:11:56

Speaker 1: from children's dolls houses to be their flight seat. Inside

00:12:00

Speaker 1: the ship, they discovered an old piece of a milk

00:12:04

Speaker 1: bottle that would act as their window to see outside

00:12:07

Speaker 1: into space, and they compiled lots of matches to fire

00:12:12

Speaker 1: up the rocket with. Once they had all of the

00:12:16

Speaker 1: pieces they needed, the family worked together every night when

00:12:21

Speaker 1: their shop was closed to build the rocket. They hammered

00:12:26

Speaker 1: in nails, superglued walls, and expertly pieced the scrap together

00:12:32

Speaker 1: to make a rather impressive ship large enough for the

00:12:36

Speaker 1: mouse family all to travel into space together. To complete

00:12:42

Speaker 1: their masterpiece, they painted the outside of the rocket bright purple,

00:12:47

Speaker 1: with three yellow stripes around the fins at the back.

00:12:52

Speaker 1: For a bit of fun, they painted the pointed nose

00:12:56

Speaker 1: at the front of the ship with a white nose

00:12:58

Speaker 1: and some yellow whiskeys. They named their rocket ship Apollo

00:13:04

Speaker 1: Fromage and painted the name on the side in big

00:13:07

Speaker 1: white letters. Their rocket ship was finally finished. Are we

00:13:14

Speaker 1: going to the moon now, Daddy, their youngest mouse, Maddie,

00:13:18

Speaker 1: asked with delight as they all stood back to admire

00:13:22

Speaker 1: their finished masterpiece. Mortie smiled with wide excited eyes and replied, yes,

00:13:31

Speaker 1: yes we are, But first we need to close up

00:13:35

Speaker 1: our shop here on Earth before we begin the journey.

00:13:41

Speaker 1: So the big family of mice closed up their beloved

00:13:45

Speaker 1: shop and donated the remaining cheese to their friends. Then

00:13:51

Speaker 1: they piled through the door of their rocket ship and

00:13:55

Speaker 1: sat down in their seats. There were eleven of them

00:13:59

Speaker 1: traveling in total, and they all had their own individual

00:14:03

Speaker 1: seat belts attached to each of their tiny chairs. The

00:14:09

Speaker 1: children all buckled into the back, and Morty and Martha

00:14:13

Speaker 1: sat up front in the driver's seats. Martha plotted their

00:14:19

Speaker 1: course to the moon and prepared the engines for liftoff.

00:14:24

Speaker 1: Are you sure about this? She whispered to Morty, still

00:14:30

Speaker 1: a little on shore, as to whether he was crazy

00:14:33

Speaker 1: or simply adventurous. He placed his little mouse hand on

00:14:38

Speaker 1: top of hers and whispered back, I've never been more sure.

00:14:45

Speaker 1: She smiled and grew with confidence at her husband's reassurance.

00:14:52

Speaker 1: She looked over her shoulder and into the back of

00:14:55

Speaker 1: the rocket ship, where her nine children all sat patiently waiting,

00:15:02

Speaker 1: and shouted, are you ready? They all began whooping and

00:15:09

Speaker 1: cheering with joy, begging for her to set off. As

00:15:14

Speaker 1: Martha reved up the engines, Mortie looked out at the

00:15:18

Speaker 1: window and down at the ground, where their other mouse

00:15:22

Speaker 1: friends all watched on with intrigue. He waved down to them,

00:15:27

Speaker 1: and they waved back. Two of his good friends held

00:15:31

Speaker 1: up a banner which said bon voyage in big red letters,

00:15:37

Speaker 1: and Martha's best friend waved her off with a waft

00:15:41

Speaker 1: of her lace handkerchief. Everybody was so impressed by the

00:15:47

Speaker 1: family's efforts, and they were all inspired by their brave mission.

00:15:53

Speaker 1: Who knew maybe one day the other mice would join

00:15:58

Speaker 1: them on the moon too. The rocket ship suddenly began

00:16:03

Speaker 1: to rumble and shake as the engines switched on, and

00:16:09

Speaker 1: everybody sat back in their seats. Martha flicked a switch

00:16:15

Speaker 1: and pressed a button, and the countdown began ten nine, eight, seven, six,

00:16:28

Speaker 1: five four three two one. Blast off. The rocket began

00:16:40

Speaker 1: to shoot up into the air, and the mice left

00:16:44

Speaker 1: behind on the Earth began to cheer. Morty, Martha and

00:16:49

Speaker 1: their children all squealed with enjoyment as the rocket raced

00:16:55

Speaker 1: through the sky, pushed past the clouds, beyond the earth atmosphere,

00:17:01

Speaker 1: and into the dark expanse of space. As the rocket

00:17:06

Speaker 1: ship left the Earth's field of gravity, it felt like

00:17:10

Speaker 1: the vehicle had slowed down and they were now floating

00:17:14

Speaker 1: in slow motion. Can we take off our seat belts yet? Maggie,

00:17:21

Speaker 1: the oldest child, asked eagerly, Yes, you can. Martha agreed,

00:17:27

Speaker 1: but be careful you don't all bump into each other.

00:17:31

Speaker 1: The children didn't need to be told twice, and they

00:17:35

Speaker 1: all unbuckled their seat belts at the same time. As

00:17:39

Speaker 1: they did, their little fluffy bodies began to lift and

00:17:44

Speaker 1: bob around the rocket ship. They couldn't keep their feet

00:17:48

Speaker 1: on the ground, and they all swam through the air

00:17:52

Speaker 1: as if they were swimming through water. Wow. This is incredible, Murray,

00:18:00

Speaker 1: their arty child, exclaimed, as he spun around in mid air.

00:18:06

Speaker 1: Are we flying? Little Maddie questioned, confused but exhilarated by

00:18:13

Speaker 1: what was happening, sort of replied Maggie, ever the intelligent one.

00:18:21

Speaker 1: There is no gravity in space, so there is no

00:18:25

Speaker 1: gravity pulling us down to the floor like there is

00:18:28

Speaker 1: on Earth, which means we can float around in space

00:18:32

Speaker 1: and feel like we are flying. The children all delighted

00:18:39

Speaker 1: by their new ability, and despite their mother's instructions, they

00:18:45

Speaker 1: all moved around the space, bumping into one another and

00:18:50

Speaker 1: causing quite a cacophony of chaos. On board the ship,

00:18:56

Speaker 1: Mortie and Martha kept their eyes firmly on what was

00:19:00

Speaker 1: outside of their window as they directed the rocket through

00:19:04

Speaker 1: space and towards the Moon. It was unbelievable that they

00:19:11

Speaker 1: were all in outer space. Everything that they could see

00:19:16

Speaker 1: now was almost close enough to touch, And yet they

00:19:22

Speaker 1: had spent all of their life on Earth gazing up

00:19:26

Speaker 1: at the stars and the planets, knowing that they were

00:19:29

Speaker 1: far out of reach. They had never thought in their

00:19:34

Speaker 1: wildest dreams that they would be the first mice to

00:19:39

Speaker 1: go to space. They could see the big ball of

00:19:45

Speaker 1: light that is, the Sun shining so brightly that they

00:19:49

Speaker 1: couldn't look at it for too long. The Sun was

00:19:54

Speaker 1: so enormous that it dwarfed every other planet and star

00:20:00

Speaker 1: in its Solar system. They could see Venus and Mercury

00:20:05

Speaker 1: on the way to the Sun, and Mars wasn't too

00:20:08

Speaker 1: far behind them, But the planets were not what they

00:20:13

Speaker 1: had come all this way for. In fact, their journey

00:20:17

Speaker 1: was going to be a lot shorter, as the Moon

00:20:20

Speaker 1: was quite close to the Earth. Their journey only took

00:20:24

Speaker 1: a small amount of time in the grand scheme of things,

00:20:28

Speaker 1: as they hurtled through space with great grace and ease,

00:20:33

Speaker 1: eventually landing their rocket ship on the surface of the Moon.

00:20:41

Speaker 1: As soon as they touched down on the Moon, the

00:20:44

Speaker 1: children all floated gently back down to the ground and

00:20:50

Speaker 1: dashed over to the window to look outside. There was

00:20:56

Speaker 1: nothing to be seen except for lots and lots of

00:21:00

Speaker 1: deserted land and the dark sky above them. Far away,

00:21:07

Speaker 1: they could see the Earth spinning on its axis, going

00:21:12

Speaker 1: about its day just like normal. Are we getting out now, daddy,

00:21:20

Speaker 1: little Marcel asked, prodding at his father's shoulder. Morty took

00:21:26

Speaker 1: a deep breath and gulped now was the moment of truth.

00:21:34

Speaker 1: They were about to find out if the moon was

00:21:38

Speaker 1: actually made of cheese, and whether this whole mission had

00:21:44

Speaker 1: been worth it. The family of eleven all piled out

00:21:50

Speaker 1: of the rocket ship and set foot on the moon.

00:21:54

Speaker 1: The ground felt slightly squidgy beneath their feet. Each footstep

00:22:01

Speaker 1: they bounced and boined a little as they moved. Morty

00:22:07

Speaker 1: sniffed the air and noted that there was a slight,

00:22:11

Speaker 1: sweet pungency that permeated their surroundings. But it was like

00:22:17

Speaker 1: nothing he had smelt before. It didn't smell like cheese,

00:22:22

Speaker 1: that was for sure. As Morty took in the sight

00:22:28

Speaker 1: of the barren moon, he started to think that his

00:22:32

Speaker 1: plan had been all for nothing. This didn't look like

00:22:36

Speaker 1: the cheese that he knew. Perhaps it was just a myth,

00:22:40

Speaker 1: after all, the moon wasn't really made of cheese. Martha

00:22:47

Speaker 1: noticed that Morty seemed disappointed, so she attempted to lift

00:22:52

Speaker 1: his spirits. Should we try a bit of the moon, then,

00:22:58

Speaker 1: she asked, teasingly, I know you've been wanting to find

00:23:02

Speaker 1: out for a while what moon cheese tastes like. Their

00:23:07

Speaker 1: nine children all gathered around eagerly waiting for their father

00:23:13

Speaker 1: to take the first bite out of the moon. Mortie

00:23:19

Speaker 1: pulled his cheese knife from his pocket and sliced a

00:23:23

Speaker 1: bit off the corner of a hole in the moon's surface.

00:23:29

Speaker 1: He held the slice out in front of him and

00:23:32

Speaker 1: inspected it. It was a gray color, not yellow or orange,

00:23:38

Speaker 1: like the cheeses he knew back on Earth. It also

00:23:42

Speaker 1: smelt of the same sweet tangy aroama he had noticed earlier,

00:23:47

Speaker 1: but it did feel soft in his hand. Mortie took

00:23:53

Speaker 1: a deep breath, placed the slice of the moon into

00:23:57

Speaker 1: his mouth, and began to chew. To his delight, his

00:24:03

Speaker 1: taste buds lit up with the taste of a familiar flavor.

00:24:09

Speaker 1: The surface of the moon was indeed made of cheese.

00:24:16

Speaker 1: It might have been a gray color, and it might

00:24:19

Speaker 1: have smelt unusual, but it was undeniable. As soon as

00:24:25

Speaker 1: the slice of the moon had hit his tongue, he

00:24:29

Speaker 1: had recognized it as delicious cheese. In fact, this cheese

00:24:36

Speaker 1: tasted better than any he had had before. It's cheese,

00:24:43

Speaker 1: Morty declared, and the family all began to cheer. They

00:24:49

Speaker 1: all began to pick chunks out of the ground and

00:24:53

Speaker 1: ate up lots and lots of moon cheese. They all

00:24:58

Speaker 1: agreed that it was the best tasting cheese they had

00:25:03

Speaker 1: ever tasted. Morty couldn't wait to share it with everyone

00:25:08

Speaker 1: on Earth back in their shop. The mouse families spent

00:25:14

Speaker 1: the next few days enjoying their time on the Moon.

00:25:19

Speaker 1: They slept under the stars and played joyously across the

00:25:24

Speaker 1: face of the Moon, hopping from place to place, aided

00:25:28

Speaker 1: by the Moon's weak gravity. In fact, I bet if

00:25:34

Speaker 1: you got a telescope focused on the Moon and zoomed in,

00:25:39

Speaker 1: you would probably have been able to spot eleven tiny

00:25:42

Speaker 1: mice running across the Moon's face as you prepared for

00:25:47

Speaker 1: bed at night. They all ate moon cheese until they

00:25:51

Speaker 1: were full, and then continued to sleep and play until

00:25:56

Speaker 1: they were ready to devour more. It was a perfect

00:26:00

Speaker 1: baked existence. After a few days of fun on the moon,

00:26:07

Speaker 1: Morty started to slice up big chunks of moon cheese

00:26:12

Speaker 1: and began loading them onto their rocket ship. What are

00:26:18

Speaker 1: you doing, his wife, Martha questioned, as she saw him

00:26:22

Speaker 1: working away. What do you think? He said, I'm packing

00:26:28

Speaker 1: up the ship with moon cheese to take back to

00:26:31

Speaker 1: Earth to sell in our shop. That was always the plan, remember,

00:26:38

Speaker 1: Martha nodded her head in realization she had forgotten all

00:26:44

Speaker 1: about their plan. She was having such a nice time

00:26:48

Speaker 1: on the moon with her family that she had forgotten

00:26:52

Speaker 1: that they were supposed to go home eventually. I don't

00:26:58

Speaker 1: want to go home, she confessed, sadly. I like it

00:27:03

Speaker 1: here on the moon. I want to stay. Morty gave

00:27:09

Speaker 1: her a hug and chuckled. We can't stay on the moon, Martha,

00:27:15

Speaker 1: he replied, who would we sell the cheese to. There's

00:27:20

Speaker 1: nobody here. Martha sulked and shrugged her shoulders before suggesting

00:27:28

Speaker 1: maybe we wouldn't need to sell the cheese to anyone.

00:27:32

Speaker 1: Look around, There's plenty of cheese for us to eat,

00:27:36

Speaker 1: and we'd never have to do any work again. It's

00:27:40

Speaker 1: all here ready for us. Morty looked around them at

00:27:46

Speaker 1: the moon that they had currently called home. It was

00:27:52

Speaker 1: totally idyllic. They had endless amounts of cheese at their disposal,

00:27:59

Speaker 1: and the children all loving playing all day whilst Martha

00:28:04

Speaker 1: and Morty relaxed. They hadn't relaxed like this in a very,

00:28:10

Speaker 1: very long time. Morty was starting to come around to

00:28:17

Speaker 1: the idea of staying on the moon, but then he

00:28:20

Speaker 1: caught himself. It could get very lonely up here, without

00:28:26

Speaker 1: any friends or anybody else to talk to. Eventually, they'd

00:28:31

Speaker 1: all get bored and wish that they had jobs to do. Besides,

00:28:37

Speaker 1: Morty missed his cheese shop. He missed all of the

00:28:41

Speaker 1: animals that he got to meet every day as he

00:28:44

Speaker 1: served them, and he loved sharing his passion and knowledge

00:28:48

Speaker 1: about cheese with his customers. Just then, they heard a

00:28:54

Speaker 1: jumble of voices calling out from behind one of the hills.

00:29:00

Speaker 1: They turned to follow the sound and saw their nine

00:29:05

Speaker 1: children running over the hilltop towards them, chatting animatedly. Mummy Daddy,

00:29:14

Speaker 1: Little Maddie called out, you'll never guess what. We've found

00:29:20

Speaker 1: other creatures on the moon. Then her brother Marcel added,

00:29:26

Speaker 1: and they're really nice. Mortie and Martha were shocked. They

00:29:33

Speaker 1: didn't think that anybody else lived on the Moon. They

00:29:37

Speaker 1: hadn't seen any one else since they arrived. This was

00:29:42

Speaker 1: wonderful news. The children had been exploring and ventured into

00:29:48

Speaker 1: one of the caves on the surface of the Moon.

00:29:52

Speaker 1: When they delved deep into the cave, they came to

00:29:56

Speaker 1: the entrance to an underground city where lots of other

00:30:00

Speaker 1: moon creatures lived. The children eagerly led the way back

00:30:05

Speaker 1: to the place where they made this remarkable discovery and

00:30:10

Speaker 1: guided their parents underground. Just like they had said, there

00:30:16

Speaker 1: was a thriving city underneath the surface of the Moon,

00:30:21

Speaker 1: and even more amazingly, the moon creatures looked very familiar.

00:30:28

Speaker 1: The moon creatures were small, fluffy mice. Many years ago,

00:30:35

Speaker 1: a family of mice must have migrated just like them

00:30:39

Speaker 1: to the Moon but decided to stay. They all had

00:30:45

Speaker 1: pointy whiskers and twitchy noses with big round ears. Although

00:30:53

Speaker 1: there were two main differences between the moon mice and

00:30:57

Speaker 1: Morty and his family of earth Mine, One was that

00:31:02

Speaker 1: the moon mice had bright orange fur from lots of

00:31:07

Speaker 1: time basking close to the Sun in outer space, and two,

00:31:13

Speaker 1: they had big, wide feet with hooked toes that could

00:31:17

Speaker 1: cling on to the Moon's surface with ease. This way,

00:31:22

Speaker 1: they didn't bounce around and float through space too much.

00:31:27

Speaker 1: The moon mice was so welcoming to Morty and his family,

00:31:32

Speaker 1: and with this friendly community now on the Moon, Morty

00:31:37

Speaker 1: felt inclined to stay, much to the delight of his family.

00:31:44

Speaker 1: Morty and Martha set up their new cheese shop on

00:31:48

Speaker 1: the Moon and used their amazing skills to create lots

00:31:53

Speaker 1: of new recipes that the moon mice had never tried before.

00:31:59

Speaker 1: They used the moon cheese to whip up new recipes

00:32:04

Speaker 1: such as gooey moon fondu, moon cheese, soufles, and mac

00:32:10

Speaker 1: and moon cheese. The moon mice absolutely loved their crazy

00:32:17

Speaker 1: concoctions and their shop became a hit. They even created

00:32:24

Speaker 1: a delivery service all the way back to Earth, with

00:32:29

Speaker 1: their daughter Maggie as the main delivery driver. They loaded

00:32:33

Speaker 1: up their rocket with chunks of moon cheese and she

00:32:37

Speaker 1: delivered them to their loyal customers back on Earth. Their

00:32:42

Speaker 1: moon cheese was a hit, and everybody agreed that the

00:32:47

Speaker 1: taste was out of this world. Every day Mortie and

00:32:54

Speaker 1: Martha served their regular happy customers with a smile. Sometimes

00:33:02

Speaker 1: they even had visitors come from other planets too. Their

00:33:06

Speaker 1: good reputation had spread so far that people and animals

00:33:13

Speaker 1: all over the universe were flying by spaceship to come

00:33:18

Speaker 1: and sample their special moon cheese. One day, they even

00:33:25

Speaker 1: had a visit from a polite young koala named Cocoa

00:33:29

Speaker 1: and his friendly auntie Shirley. He played them a sweet

00:33:34

Speaker 1: song on his ukulele in exchange for a big chunk

00:33:38

Speaker 1: of moon cheese. It was the highlight of their week. Mortie, Martha,

00:33:47

Speaker 1: and their nine children had never been happier. Their life

00:33:53

Speaker 1: on the moon was perfect in every way. They had

00:33:58

Speaker 1: everything that they could ever need, food, friends, relaxation, and

00:34:07

Speaker 1: Morty found his sense of purpose. Their new life on

00:34:12

Speaker 1: the moon was truly out of this world
