00:00:10

Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome back to Koala Moon, a podcast of

00:00:14

Speaker 1: original children's bedtime stories and meditations designed to make bedtime

00:00:20

Speaker 1: a dream. Before we start Tonight's story, I'm going to

00:00:24

Speaker 1: do the usual big warm hello to all of our

00:00:27

Speaker 1: newest Cocoa Club members across the world. So tonight, that's you,

00:00:31

Speaker 1: James Gilbertson in London, Eden, Jude and Alfie in Sydney, Australia,

00:00:37

Speaker 1: and Cosette and Josephine. Thank you, thank you, thank you

00:00:42

Speaker 1: for subscribing and joining our club, and I hope you

00:00:45

Speaker 1: enjoy all your extra stories now. Then, Oh, Tonight's story.

00:00:52

Speaker 1: It reminds me that I just hate losing things, especially

00:00:56

Speaker 1: precious things. I once lost a pendant worn every day

00:01:00

Speaker 1: for ten years, and I felt so distressed I couldn't

00:01:03

Speaker 1: eat for a whole day, and when I eventually found it,

00:01:07

Speaker 1: I cried with happiness. It may have just been some

00:01:11

Speaker 1: precious metals and gemstones, but to me, it symbolized so

00:01:15

Speaker 1: much more than that, and it's really only me that

00:01:18

Speaker 1: it mattered to. So Tonight's story brings back some of

00:01:23

Speaker 1: those memories. Have you ever lost or misplaced anything precious? Tonight,

00:01:28

Speaker 1: we're following our octopus friend Ozzie as he chases a

00:01:31

Speaker 1: diamond ring down the plug hole of his sink in

00:01:34

Speaker 1: the kitchen of Potato and Beans, his diner. Lucky for him,

00:01:38

Speaker 1: he ends up on an adventure through pipes and shoots

00:01:41

Speaker 1: all the way to the ocean, where he teams up

00:01:44

Speaker 1: with a squid named Pearl to achieve his mission of

00:01:48

Speaker 1: returning the lost ring to its rightful owner. What a

00:01:51

Speaker 1: superstar octopus he is for trying so hard. Now, relax

00:01:56

Speaker 1: and steady your breath as you get comfy in your bed.

00:02:00

Speaker 1: Maybe wriggle and shake and jiggle and pat your body

00:02:03

Speaker 1: to get rid of any extra energy still in there

00:02:06

Speaker 1: from the day. That's it all over? Okay, Now give

00:02:12

Speaker 1: me a lovely long sigh and we'll begin Ossie's Adventures

00:02:22

Speaker 1: down the plug Hole by Susannah McLaughlin. It was a

00:02:33

Speaker 1: beautiful day in the middle of nowhere, where the sun

00:02:37

Speaker 1: hung low in the sky, glinting on the roof of

00:02:40

Speaker 1: the only building in sight, a roller skate diner owned

00:02:43

Speaker 1: by two cats by the names of Potato and Beans.

00:02:47

Speaker 1: The long road that ran through the desert valley was

00:02:50

Speaker 1: mostly empty, save for a few passers by on long

00:02:53

Speaker 1: road trips across the country, traveling in full cars with

00:02:57

Speaker 1: the roofs down, letting the warm breeze ruffle through their

00:03:01

Speaker 1: fur and flapping the ears of those with ears floppy

00:03:05

Speaker 1: enough to flap. In the kitchen of the diner, Missus

00:03:09

Speaker 1: Pig was baking bread, and Ozzy the Octopus was finishing

00:03:13

Speaker 1: off a stack of plates left over from the lunchtime rush.

00:03:16

Speaker 1: As usual, he was soaking in the bubbly water as

00:03:19

Speaker 1: he washed with a sponge in each tentacle. His favorite

00:03:24

Speaker 1: rock music was blaring from the radio, and he was

00:03:27

Speaker 1: bopping his head in time to the music. As he

00:03:31

Speaker 1: polished a particularly shiny glass, he saw something glint in

00:03:36

Speaker 1: the water beneath him. He put down his sponges and

00:03:40

Speaker 1: the crockery he was holding and looked closer. In between

00:03:44

Speaker 1: the fluffy clouds of bubbles, there was something shiny bobbing

00:03:49

Speaker 1: on the bottom of the sink. Ozzie tried to pick

00:03:52

Speaker 1: it up, but every time he nearly had it, it

00:03:55

Speaker 1: would bob away to hide in another corner. His tentacles

00:04:00

Speaker 1: were too soapy and slippery. Ozzie scratched his head. He

00:04:05

Speaker 1: thought maybe it was best to empty the sink to

00:04:08

Speaker 1: recover whatever this shiny trinket was and reached into the

00:04:12

Speaker 1: depths of the water to yank out the rubber plug

00:04:15

Speaker 1: from the drain. As the bubbles began to swirl and

00:04:19

Speaker 1: whirl down the drain, he caught a glimpse of the object.

00:04:23

Speaker 1: It was a shiny diamond ring. As soon as he

00:04:28

Speaker 1: saw it, he was gone, swept away into the whirlpool

00:04:31

Speaker 1: leading down the drain. Ozzie gulped and yelped and tried

00:04:35

Speaker 1: to catch it, but it was no good. The ring

00:04:38

Speaker 1: was gone. He sighed and rolled his eyes. There was

00:04:44

Speaker 1: no option for him. He had to follow it. Did

00:04:48

Speaker 1: you know octopuses can squeeze into the tiniest of places.

00:04:53

Speaker 1: They can contort their tentacles, breathe in, and disappear into

00:04:59

Speaker 1: the tiniest of on the ocean floor. This came in

00:05:03

Speaker 1: handy in times like this. Ozzie took a breath in,

00:05:07

Speaker 1: lined up his tentacles, and wriggled and squeezed into the

00:05:12

Speaker 1: plug hole. Along with all the water. He slipped and

00:05:16

Speaker 1: slid down the mazer pipes, giggling and whooping as he went.

00:05:21

Speaker 1: It was like a water park down there, drops and

00:05:25

Speaker 1: twists and loop the loops bends and shoots and curly wirlies.

00:05:31

Speaker 1: He went down, down, down, until eventually he flew out

00:05:38

Speaker 1: of the last pipe to splash into the bobbing river below.

00:05:43

Speaker 1: Ozzie looked all around him. He seemed to be in

00:05:47

Speaker 1: some kind of underground tunnel, swimming on a lazy river.

00:05:52

Speaker 1: Ahead and behind, the river split into different passageways heading

00:05:56

Speaker 1: goodness knows where. Ozzie scratched his head with one of

00:06:01

Speaker 1: his tentacles. How would he possibly know which way the

00:06:05

Speaker 1: ring went? A small voice called from one of the

00:06:09

Speaker 1: concrete river banks. Are you looking for something? The voice asked,

00:06:16

Speaker 1: I haven't seen you down here before. Ozzie spun in

00:06:21

Speaker 1: a whirlpool and turned to find the source of the voice.

00:06:25

Speaker 1: Her little mouse, with a dainty pink nose and soft

00:06:29

Speaker 1: white fur, was peering down at him from the dry bank.

00:06:33

Speaker 1: Ozzie smiled at her with his most dazzling smile. Yeah,

00:06:39

Speaker 1: he said, I'm looking for something that slipped down my

00:06:42

Speaker 1: plug hole. It's a ring, a real shiny one. The

00:06:48

Speaker 1: mouse smiled and blushed as Ozzie kept grinning at her.

00:06:53

Speaker 1: I think I know where it went, she said. A

00:06:57

Speaker 1: shiny object came shooting out of that shoot not long

00:07:01

Speaker 1: before you did. It landed with a splash, right next

00:07:05

Speaker 1: to a bathing otter. The otter dove after it and

00:07:09

Speaker 1: found it on the riverbed before bursting back up. He

00:07:14

Speaker 1: was thrilled, He said, his wife would absolutely love the ring.

00:07:19

Speaker 1: I think he must have gone to give it to her.

00:07:22

Speaker 1: Ozzie frowned, crinkling his smooth, coral colored forehead. He was

00:07:28

Speaker 1: a sucker for romance, but he couldn't let the otters

00:07:32

Speaker 1: keep a ring that wasn't theirs. The ring probably already

00:07:36

Speaker 1: had its own love story, and someone would be missing it.

00:07:41

Speaker 1: He asked the little mouse if she knew where the

00:07:44

Speaker 1: otter was headed, and she twitched her nose and nodded.

00:07:48

Speaker 1: He's a sea otter, she said, and there's only one

00:07:52

Speaker 1: tunnel that leads to the sea. That one. She pointed

00:07:56

Speaker 1: a poor at the largest branch of the river, where

00:07:59

Speaker 1: a paint wooden sign pointed towards the ocean. Other arrows

00:08:04

Speaker 1: on the sign pointed to various other tunnels, each labeled

00:08:08

Speaker 1: with their own destination, the Niagara Falls, Lake Michigan, and

00:08:14

Speaker 1: the Mississippi. One glowing tunnel was even labeled the Lost

00:08:20

Speaker 1: Kingdom of Atlantis. Ozzie raised his eyebrows. He had no

00:08:26

Speaker 1: idea how many places you could reach through the plug hole.

00:08:30

Speaker 1: He had spent many hours perusing where his dishwater went

00:08:34

Speaker 1: after he let its stream out of his sink, but

00:08:37

Speaker 1: he'd never imagined it might have streamed its way to

00:08:40

Speaker 1: the Mississippi, let alone an underwater kingdom. Ozzie bid a

00:08:46

Speaker 1: farewell to the little mouse and swam towards the sea.

00:08:51

Speaker 1: The tunnel led downwards until the whole thing was submerged

00:08:56

Speaker 1: in clear, twinkling, sparkling so water. Ozzy swam down, down, down,

00:09:06

Speaker 1: until the tunnel ended, and he emerged into the sea.

00:09:12

Speaker 1: Beneath him, a sandy plain stretched as far as the

00:09:16

Speaker 1: eye could see, dotted with swaying seaweed and twisted multi

00:09:20

Speaker 1: colored coral. Wriggly and enemies of green, orange, and purple

00:09:26

Speaker 1: grew between the coral and tropical fish darted here, there,

00:09:31

Speaker 1: and everywhere. Above him was the ocean. It was quite

00:09:37

Speaker 1: shallow here, so Ozzie suspected he wasn't too far from

00:09:40

Speaker 1: the shore. He saw bigger fish ahead, with lazily swimming

00:09:46

Speaker 1: sea turtles, a snoozing whale, and one slinky, acrobatic seal.

00:09:53

Speaker 1: Ozzy was here to see the otters, and he knew

00:09:57

Speaker 1: he mustn't forget his mission, but he saw no harm

00:10:01

Speaker 1: in enjoying the ocean for a little while whilst he

00:10:03

Speaker 1: found himself deep within it. He stretched out his tentacles.

00:10:09

Speaker 1: He had been above land for a while now, and

00:10:12

Speaker 1: he loved nothing more than zooming around on his roller skates,

00:10:17

Speaker 1: but it was nice to float weightlessly in the sea

00:10:21

Speaker 1: once in a while while. He stretched his eight legs

00:10:27

Speaker 1: and squeezed them together, sending him shooting through the water

00:10:32

Speaker 1: like a balloon through the sky, inflating and deflating with

00:10:36

Speaker 1: every movement. He popped the air bubbles that floated past

00:10:41

Speaker 1: him with a lazy flick of the tentacle, and watched

00:10:45

Speaker 1: the sun streaming through the water above him, warming his

00:10:50

Speaker 1: skin as it trickled down to the seabed. He wished,

00:10:55

Speaker 1: how do you do to slowly flapping stingrays, and raced

00:10:59

Speaker 1: alongside hurried seahorses as Ozzie caught his breath. Lazing on

00:11:05

Speaker 1: a rock and using some vacant seashells as castanets, he

00:11:10

Speaker 1: saw something in the distance towards the surface, heading in

00:11:15

Speaker 1: his direction. It looked like a kite or a balloon,

00:11:21

Speaker 1: but instead of drifting here and there, he was swimming

00:11:25

Speaker 1: purposefully in his direction. It swam so quickly that Ozzie

00:11:31

Speaker 1: barely had time to make out what it was before

00:11:34

Speaker 1: it landed on his rock, nearly knocking him off with

00:11:37

Speaker 1: its sudden landing. Ozzie steadied himself and took in the

00:11:42

Speaker 1: creature that had come his way. Here was a squid,

00:11:46

Speaker 1: but not an ordinary squid, a giant one, almost twice

00:11:53

Speaker 1: the size of Ozzie. She had huge sparkling eyes and

00:11:58

Speaker 1: her ballet slipper pink skin shone with a purlscent gleam.

00:12:05

Speaker 1: The squid smiled pleasantly at Ozzy and bid him aer hi.

00:12:11

Speaker 1: Ozzie said hello, and the two of them sat quietly

00:12:14

Speaker 1: on the rock for a while as a shimmering school

00:12:17

Speaker 1: of sardines swam by. I'm Ozzy, Ozzie said, I'm a

00:12:24

Speaker 1: roller scathing dishwasher from Potato and Beans diner. The squid smiled.

00:12:32

Speaker 1: I'm Pearl, she said, a swimming, scuelching squid from the

00:12:38

Speaker 1: Big Blue Sea. What on earth are you doing here, Ozzy?

00:12:45

Speaker 1: Ozzie told Pearl about the missing ring, and she nodded

00:12:49

Speaker 1: at him wide eyed. I've seen it, she said. Old

00:12:56

Speaker 1: fury Tad swam through here not long ago, clutching a

00:13:01

Speaker 1: shiny ring in his pow. He said he was going

00:13:05

Speaker 1: to give it to his wife Edy. I was thrilled,

00:13:09

Speaker 1: as Edy's such a lovely sea otter. She deserves a tree.

00:13:15

Speaker 1: In fact, jes last week she helped me out when

00:13:18

Speaker 1: I got all tangled up in seaweed, and she didn't

00:13:22

Speaker 1: laugh at me once, even though I must have looked

00:13:25

Speaker 1: pretty funny. Ozzy asked whether she knew where Edy and

00:13:29

Speaker 1: Ted lived, and Pearl nodded her head. She crossed her

00:13:34

Speaker 1: front two tentacles and put a stern look on her face.

00:13:38

Speaker 1: She wasn't used to being stern, and she had no

00:13:41

Speaker 1: eyebrows to furrow, but Ozzie understood her intent. Hmm, you

00:13:47

Speaker 1: can't take the ring from Edy and leave her with nothing,

00:13:51

Speaker 1: though Pearl said, it's not polite. It's not her fault.

00:13:57

Speaker 1: The ring was floating towards the ocean. Was He thought

00:14:01

Speaker 1: this was reasonable. Ted found the ring and deserved some

00:14:06

Speaker 1: kind of reward anyway, What do you think I could

00:14:10

Speaker 1: give them an exchange? Pearl? As he spoke the giant

00:14:15

Speaker 1: Squid's name. The answer to his question appeared in his mind.

00:14:20

Speaker 1: A new ring, of course, and what better ring for

00:14:24

Speaker 1: a sea otter than one studded with a bright, shiny pearl, Ah, Pearl,

00:14:32

Speaker 1: Where do pearls come from, Ozzie asked. Pearl laughed, well, Izzy,

00:14:41

Speaker 1: you'd have to ask my friend Shelley about there. She's

00:14:47

Speaker 1: an oyster. Pearls are made by oysters. They often keepin

00:14:54

Speaker 1: tucked away in their shells for safe keeping. Without another word,

00:15:00

Speaker 1: Pearl rocketed off into the ocean, and Ozzy sprang off

00:15:04

Speaker 1: after her, wishing he had his rollerskates to speed him up.

00:15:07

Speaker 1: This squid could swim fast. The squid and the octopus

00:15:13

Speaker 1: swam side by side for a mile or two, ducking

00:15:17

Speaker 1: through caves and slinking through seaweed, dodging their way through

00:15:22

Speaker 1: a gaggle of jellyfish, and giggling endlessly. Pearl came to

00:15:28

Speaker 1: a sudden and abrupt stop next to a particularly vibrant

00:15:32

Speaker 1: orange coral, and Ozzy barreled on into the current for

00:15:36

Speaker 1: another ten meters before he himself could slow down. She

00:15:41

Speaker 1: chuckled as he swam back to join her. This is Shelly,

00:15:46

Speaker 1: she said, pointing at a knobbly gray stone the size

00:15:50

Speaker 1: of her hand. As Ozzie looked closer, the stone sprang open,

00:15:56

Speaker 1: revealing itself as an oyster shell with a shiny sod

00:16:00

Speaker 1: over inside and a blobby pink oyster calling hello. Shelley

00:16:06

Speaker 1: greeted the two Kefalopods and made some polite small talk

00:16:10

Speaker 1: about what a beautiful day it was out here in

00:16:13

Speaker 1: the big Blue Ozzie and Pearl agreed with her and

00:16:17

Speaker 1: complimented how the sunlight danced on the metallic sheen of

00:16:21

Speaker 1: the inside of her shell. Pearl told Shelley about the

00:16:26

Speaker 1: missing ring and explain that they would like to replace

00:16:30

Speaker 1: Edie's newfound accessory with a pearl ring instead, which wouldn't

00:16:35

Speaker 1: be missed by its owner. Shelley laughed and said, of course,

00:16:40

Speaker 1: flipping a shiny, milky colored pearl their way. She had

00:16:44

Speaker 1: an abundance of them. Shelley asked how they were going

00:16:48

Speaker 1: to turn the pearl into a ring pretty enough to

00:16:51

Speaker 1: rival the one that had come from the diner, and

00:16:54

Speaker 1: Ozzy scratched his head. He hadn't thought that far yet, Shelley.

00:17:00

Speaker 1: He told Pearl and Ozzy that there was a creature

00:17:03

Speaker 1: that could help them. Had they ever heard of a manateee.

00:17:08

Speaker 1: Ozzie nodded his head. Recently, a friendly gaiter had stopped

00:17:12

Speaker 1: off at the diner whist on a long road trip

00:17:15

Speaker 1: to hear there and everywhere. The gator had come from

00:17:19

Speaker 1: Louisiana and had recounted lazy evenings on the marina watching

00:17:24

Speaker 1: the round, gray blobs of manatees float happily in the water.

00:17:29

Speaker 1: They were often called sea cows, the gator said, since

00:17:33

Speaker 1: they spend their days munching on sea grass and lazing

00:17:37

Speaker 1: around in the water. They looked kind of like cows too,

00:17:41

Speaker 1: with rounded snouts and rotund bellies. Shelley told them that

00:17:47

Speaker 1: manatees are very skilled at making jewelry, so good, in fact,

00:17:53

Speaker 1: that when they sunbathed on the rocks above the water,

00:17:56

Speaker 1: wearing their shiny necklaces, they looked so beautiful that sea

00:18:01

Speaker 1: exploring humans thought they were mermaids when peering through their

00:18:05

Speaker 1: binoculars at them from their ships. So the octopus and

00:18:10

Speaker 1: the squid thanked the oyster and took off through the

00:18:14

Speaker 1: ocean in search of a manateee. With the pearl safely

00:18:17

Speaker 1: suctioned to one of Ossie's suckers, they headed towards the

00:18:22

Speaker 1: shore up near the surface where there could have been

00:18:26

Speaker 1: some manatees snoozing in the sunshine. Before long, they were

00:18:31

Speaker 1: nearing the coastline, and they floated upwards to poke their

00:18:35

Speaker 1: heads above the surface. Immediately on one of the rocks

00:18:41

Speaker 1: in the distance, Pearls spotted a large gray splodge and

00:18:45

Speaker 1: cooed out a cooy to catch the creature's attention. Are

00:18:52

Speaker 1: you a man a tea? She called? The splodge looked

00:18:56

Speaker 1: up to reveal the big brown eyes and cute stub

00:19:00

Speaker 1: nose of a seal. He slowly shook his head and

00:19:05

Speaker 1: pointed a fin out to his right. Following the point

00:19:09

Speaker 1: of his fin, Ozzie and Pearl spun slowly to see

00:19:13

Speaker 1: another splodge on another rock, and this one had the

00:19:17

Speaker 1: snuffling snout and little beady eyes of a manateee. Pearl

00:19:22

Speaker 1: whooped and dived back into the water to rock it

00:19:26

Speaker 1: her way over to the manatees sunbathing spot. Ozzie rolled

00:19:31

Speaker 1: his eyes, giggled, and followed her at the closest pace

00:19:35

Speaker 1: he could to her rocketing swim Looking up from the water,

00:19:40

Speaker 1: the manateee seemed huge, but she had the kindest little

00:19:45

Speaker 1: smile of perhaps any animal Ozzie had ever seen. She

00:19:50

Speaker 1: was wearing little round glasses, which she pushed down her

00:19:54

Speaker 1: snout to better see her two visitors. She had a

00:19:58

Speaker 1: little tool box balanced on the rock to her left,

00:20:01

Speaker 1: and in her flippers with some beautiful tangle of wire

00:20:06

Speaker 1: threaded with glistening glass beads. Hello, my DearS, the manatee said,

00:20:14

Speaker 1: What can I do for you? Ozzie used his suckers

00:20:20

Speaker 1: to hoist himself up on the rock and shook hands

00:20:24

Speaker 1: with the lady. Pearl remained in the water, but reached

00:20:28

Speaker 1: up a long pink tentacle and waggled the manatees hand

00:20:32

Speaker 1: in greeting. We've heard that manatees are skilled jewelers, Pearl said,

00:20:40

Speaker 1: and we're seeking a skilled jeweler. Ozzie explained their conundrum

00:20:47

Speaker 1: with the lost ring, presenting their shiny pearl, and asking

00:20:51

Speaker 1: the manatee if she could pretty please possibly consider making

00:20:55

Speaker 1: them a ring. Edy will really appreciate it, Pearl added,

00:21:01

Speaker 1: as she's really nice. The manateee chuckled and said, of

00:21:07

Speaker 1: course she would help them. It would be her pleasure

00:21:10

Speaker 1: and it would be ready in a jiffy. The manateee

00:21:15

Speaker 1: pushed up her glasses and pulled out a new roll

00:21:18

Speaker 1: of wire, winding it around the pearl and bending it

00:21:23

Speaker 1: into beautiful weaving patterns before cutting it from the spool

00:21:27

Speaker 1: with a decisive snip. She handed it to Pearl and Ozzy,

00:21:32

Speaker 1: who marveled at it, complimenting the man Tee on her talent.

00:21:37

Speaker 1: The Manateee dismissed their praise with a flip of the

00:21:40

Speaker 1: flipper and wished them well on their mission. With final

00:21:45

Speaker 1: thank yous, Pearl and Ossie slipped back down into the ocean.

00:21:51

Speaker 1: It was time to head to Ted and Edy's place

00:21:54

Speaker 1: to retrieve the ring. Pearl took the lead and Ozzie

00:21:59

Speaker 1: swam along in her wake, humming to himself as he went.

00:22:04

Speaker 1: Now well accustomed to swimming competitively against the sea's current,

00:22:10

Speaker 1: Pearl led them along the rocky coastline to an isolated

00:22:14

Speaker 1: craggy cove bordered by rock pools and palm trees. Here

00:22:21

Speaker 1: in the shallows, Ted and Edy, the two loved up

00:22:24

Speaker 1: sea utters, were floating on their backs, poor and poor,

00:22:29

Speaker 1: as the sun glinted off the ring on Edy's finger.

00:22:34

Speaker 1: Ozzy sidled up next to them and called out a

00:22:38

Speaker 1: sheepish hello, trying not to startle the bathing otters. Ted

00:22:43

Speaker 1: and Edy opened one eye each and bathe the octopus Hello,

00:22:48

Speaker 1: flipping lazily over on to their stomachs to better see him.

00:22:54

Speaker 1: Ozzie introduced himself and apologized for disturbing their sunny snooze.

00:23:01

Speaker 1: I've spent the day sliding down chutes, bobbing in the rivers,

00:23:07

Speaker 1: rocketing through the ocean, and bobbing along the shoreline in

00:23:11

Speaker 1: pursuit of that ring on your finger, Edie, I hope

00:23:15

Speaker 1: you don't mind, but I think it belongs to a

00:23:19

Speaker 1: customer of mine, all the way back at Potato and

00:23:22

Speaker 1: Beans's diner on a long desert road in the beginning

00:23:26

Speaker 1: of nowhere. Ted and Edy blushed and handed the ring

00:23:31

Speaker 1: immediately to Ozzy. Why things in the ocean are barely

00:23:37

Speaker 1: ever found? Ted said, I thought there was no way

00:23:43

Speaker 1: we could find its owner. We didn't count on an

00:23:47

Speaker 1: adventurous octopus like you to follow it all this way.

00:23:52

Speaker 1: Ozzie smiled and thanked them for returning the ring. He

00:23:57

Speaker 1: said he'd brought them a reward in its place, and

00:24:00

Speaker 1: placed the pearl ring in Edy's open palm. Edy gasped

00:24:07

Speaker 1: and her eyes welled up with happy tears. It's beautiful,

00:24:14

Speaker 1: she said, an ocean made ring especially for me. Thank you, Oozsi.

00:24:24

Speaker 1: Pearl bobbed up behind Ozzy with a grin. Edy giggled,

00:24:30

Speaker 1: I should have known you'd be involved in this somehow, Pearl,

00:24:36

Speaker 1: thank you. Ted beamed at the two of them and

00:24:41

Speaker 1: wrapped them in a hug. He said it was even

00:24:45

Speaker 1: better than the ring he had found, and now Ozzy

00:24:49

Speaker 1: was going to return it to its rightful owner. Everybody

00:24:53

Speaker 1: could be happy. The animals hugged and Ozzie wished them

00:24:58

Speaker 1: a farewell. It's time I get back to the diner,

00:25:03

Speaker 1: he said. It's almost time for the dinner rush. Pearl

00:25:08

Speaker 1: swam Ozzie back to the pipe and gave him a hug.

00:25:12

Speaker 1: Ozzie told her to please visit the diner any time.

00:25:17

Speaker 1: He said he'd love for her to meet his friends

00:25:20

Speaker 1: Potato Beans and Missus Pig and promised they'd make her

00:25:24

Speaker 1: the best lunch she had ever tasted. Pearl nodded and

00:25:29

Speaker 1: promised she would visit. With one last wave, Ozzy swam

00:25:35

Speaker 1: back into the pipe and up to the underground river.

00:25:39

Speaker 1: He climbed up shoot after shoot and squeezed once more

00:25:44

Speaker 1: through the plug hole to emerge in the warm glow

00:25:48

Speaker 1: of the kitchen of potato and beans diner. Missus Pig

00:25:54

Speaker 1: was no longer at her station stirring pots and flipping pancakes.

00:25:59

Speaker 1: Ozzie dried himself off with a warm, fuzzy tea towel,

00:26:04

Speaker 1: tied one of his eight skates onto each of his

00:26:06

Speaker 1: eight tentacles, and glided through the door to the diner. There,

00:26:12

Speaker 1: two kind cats and one cuddly pig were comforting a

00:26:16

Speaker 1: weepy customer. The customer had a poofy bonnet on her

00:26:21

Speaker 1: head and diamonte studdied glasses on her snout. She was

00:26:26

Speaker 1: wrapped up in a light, multi colored shawl and had

00:26:30

Speaker 1: little high heels on her feet. Ozzie recognized her immediately.

00:26:36

Speaker 1: It was Agnes, the road tripping gaiter Beans looked up

00:26:42

Speaker 1: and smiled a little smile at Ozzy. Few there you are,

00:26:48

Speaker 1: she said. We were beginning to worry poor Agnes here

00:26:54

Speaker 1: has lost her ring. She can't find it anywhere, and

00:26:58

Speaker 1: she's leaving town tomorrow. Ozzie said nothing, but opened his

00:27:05

Speaker 1: tentacle to reveal the sparkling diamond ring. Agnes squealed and

00:27:12

Speaker 1: threw her arms around Ozzie, thanking him for returning her ring.

00:27:18

Speaker 1: He wasn't just me, Ozzie said. It was a mouse,

00:27:23

Speaker 1: an oyster, a man tee, a giant squid, and two

00:27:28

Speaker 1: friendly otters too. The cats and Missus pigg looked at

00:27:34

Speaker 1: him with befuddlement, but didn't want to interrupt Agnes's happiness

00:27:38

Speaker 1: with too many questions. Well, I know just how to celebrate, Potato, said,

00:27:46

Speaker 1: Hot chocolates all round with cream and sprinkles. Ozzie spent

00:27:53

Speaker 1: the rest of the afternoon sipping on yummy hot chocolate

00:27:58

Speaker 1: with his best friends and resting his tired tentacles before

00:28:04

Speaker 1: climbing back into his bubbly sink ready for the evening rush.

00:28:10

Speaker 1: At night, he slept better than he had ever slept before,

00:28:17

Speaker 1: dreaming of the endless ocean, sparkling rings, and a giant

00:28:23

Speaker 1: squid named Pearl to the win.
