Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome back to Kuala Moon, a podcast of
00:00:14
Speaker 1: original children's bedtime stories and meditations designed to make bedtime
00:00:20
Speaker 1: a dream. Tonight's story is all about making your dreams
00:00:25
Speaker 1: come true. Do you have a dream that some people
00:00:29
Speaker 1: think is impossible or silly? Well, we all have dreams
00:00:33
Speaker 1: that other people might not think are achievable. Sometimes I'll
00:00:37
Speaker 1: let you into a little secret. I always loved reading
00:00:41
Speaker 1: aloud as a child, and I would dream of reading
00:00:44
Speaker 1: brilliant stories to lots of avid listeners, usually all my
00:00:48
Speaker 1: teddy bears and dolls. But my friends and teachers thought
00:00:51
Speaker 1: that was a silly dream, so I began to think
00:00:54
Speaker 1: so too. But now I know I was right, and
00:00:58
Speaker 1: it really is my dream job. So let me tell
00:01:02
Speaker 1: you anything and everything is possible if you really want it,
00:01:08
Speaker 1: and if you allow yourself to believe that you can
00:01:10
Speaker 1: achieve it. Now, hop into bed and relax. Perhaps take
00:01:16
Speaker 1: some time to get really comfy and take some calming
00:01:20
Speaker 1: breaths as you move around and sort yourself out. Get
00:01:25
Speaker 1: ready to meet little Amelia, who will achieve the most
00:01:29
Speaker 1: incredible feat as she takes to the sky with her
00:01:32
Speaker 1: own set of wings. This is the girl who learnt
00:01:37
Speaker 1: to fly by Alicia Ainslie. Little Amelia Starling was a
00:01:50
Speaker 1: determined child. She had a vivid imagination and a positive
00:01:55
Speaker 1: attitude towards everything. Amelia believed that if she put her
00:02:00
Speaker 1: mind to it, then she could do anything, which is
00:02:05
Speaker 1: a very good way to think. There was one thing
00:02:08
Speaker 1: that everybody knew about Emilia Starling. Little Amelia was always
00:02:13
Speaker 1: telling everybody that one day she would be able to fly.
00:02:20
Speaker 1: It all began one afternoon in the summer holidays when
00:02:23
Speaker 1: Emilia was playing at her grandmother's house. Amelia was just
00:02:27
Speaker 1: five years old at the time, and while her mother
00:02:30
Speaker 1: and father were at work, she was spending the day
00:02:33
Speaker 1: with her grandparents. Emilia was playing away in the living room,
00:02:38
Speaker 1: minding her own business whilst her grandmother cleaned up after
00:02:42
Speaker 1: lunch in the kitchen. When her grandmother had finished during
00:02:47
Speaker 1: the washing up, she went through to check on Emilia
00:02:50
Speaker 1: and found her sitting on the floor, whooshing a toy
00:02:53
Speaker 1: airplane above her head. Whoosh, whosh. Amelia hushed and playful trance.
00:03:02
Speaker 1: Her grandmother watched her play wistfully for a few seconds
00:03:06
Speaker 1: before Amelia caught her eye. Without hesitation, Amilia proudly proclaimed
00:03:13
Speaker 1: to her grandmother I'm going to be able to fly
00:03:17
Speaker 1: one day. Her grandmother's eyebrows shot up and she smiled
00:03:23
Speaker 1: with pleasure. Oh how lovely, she commented encouragingly. Will you
00:03:30
Speaker 1: be a pilot and fly planes across the world when
00:03:33
Speaker 1: you're older. Amelia nodded her head in agreement and kept
00:03:39
Speaker 1: her eyes fixed on the toy plane as she got
00:03:42
Speaker 1: to her feet and began to zoom around the living room.
00:03:47
Speaker 1: Then Amelia added, yes, I'm going to be able to
00:03:52
Speaker 1: fly when i'm older. Maybe when I'm seven. That sounds
00:03:57
Speaker 1: like a good age. Amelia's grandmother chuckled at her granddaughter's
00:04:04
Speaker 1: big plans. You can't fly when you're seven. That's much
00:04:09
Speaker 1: too young, she laughed endearingly. Maybe you can fly when
00:04:15
Speaker 1: you're around twenty. But Amelia shook her head defiantly and
00:04:21
Speaker 1: continued to race around the living room. I will be
00:04:25
Speaker 1: able to fly when I am seven, she replied firmly.
00:04:32
Speaker 1: Her grandmother turned around and started to head back to
00:04:36
Speaker 1: the kitchen, muttering, I'm afraid little girls don't fly. But
00:04:42
Speaker 1: there was no arguing with Amelia. When she had an
00:04:45
Speaker 1: idea in her head, it firmly stayed put there, and
00:04:50
Speaker 1: from then on Amelia would tell every one about her
00:04:53
Speaker 1: big plans to learn to fly. One day at school,
00:04:58
Speaker 1: Emilia's teacher was reading a famous story to the class
00:05:02
Speaker 1: about a boy in a magical land beyond the stars.
00:05:06
Speaker 1: The boy never grew up and flew with the help
00:05:10
Speaker 1: of happy thoughts and a sprinkling of pixie dust. He
00:05:14
Speaker 1: inspired Amelia. As Amelia sat on the carpet and listened
00:05:19
Speaker 1: to the tale, she suddenly had an idea. Emilia shot
00:05:25
Speaker 1: her hand up into the air to ask a question. Yes, Amelia,
00:05:32
Speaker 1: do you have a question? Her teacher, missus Myers, asked, yes,
00:05:38
Speaker 1: I do. Amelia replied, if we just think about happy things,
00:05:45
Speaker 1: does that mean that we can fly? Or do we
00:05:48
Speaker 1: need the pixie dust too. Missus Myers was baffled by
00:05:53
Speaker 1: her question. She supposed she had never thought about it before.
00:05:58
Speaker 1: Missus Myers thought carefully about how to answer Amilia's precocious question.
00:06:06
Speaker 1: I think that in the story they need the pixie
00:06:10
Speaker 1: dost to be able to fly. Missus Myers eventually answered,
00:06:16
Speaker 1: but remember, Amelia, this is just a story and children
00:06:20
Speaker 1: can't really fly. Nevertheless, Amilia smugly replied, I'm going to
00:06:29
Speaker 1: be able to fly one day. Her classmates began to
00:06:34
Speaker 1: chat amongst themselves excitedly, whilst missus Myers insisted little girls
00:06:41
Speaker 1: don't fly. Still, there was no convincing her otherwise. Emilia
00:06:49
Speaker 1: was certain that one day she would be able to fly,
00:06:55
Speaker 1: just like the boy in the story. It wasn't just
00:07:00
Speaker 1: her grandmother and her teachers that she had told about
00:07:03
Speaker 1: her big plans. Her parents were well aware of Amilia's
00:07:07
Speaker 1: special dream too. Once Amelia and her parents were enjoying
00:07:13
Speaker 1: a picnic by the lake when a bird swooped down
00:07:17
Speaker 1: from a nearby tree and snashed a crumb of food
00:07:21
Speaker 1: from their picnic blanket. Almost as quickly as it had appeared,
00:07:27
Speaker 1: the bird flew away and back to its nest on
00:07:30
Speaker 1: the treetop. Whilst her parents giggled at the bird's mischievous nature,
00:07:37
Speaker 1: Emilia studied it intently. How do birds fly, she asked
00:07:44
Speaker 1: her mother and father. They fly by flapping their wings, darling,
00:07:50
Speaker 1: her mother replied, popping a grape into her mouth. What
00:07:55
Speaker 1: are wings made out of? Amelia pressed, continuing to observe
00:08:01
Speaker 1: the bird in the tree. Her father picked up a
00:08:05
Speaker 1: loose black feather off the nearby ground and held it
00:08:09
Speaker 1: out to her. They fly using these. They are called feathers,
00:08:15
Speaker 1: he informed her, happy to pass on some wisdom to
00:08:19
Speaker 1: his daughter. Her parents continued to munch away on their
00:08:24
Speaker 1: picnic food. However, Amilia was focused on the bird. After
00:08:31
Speaker 1: a few minutes, her eyes lit up with wonderment, and
00:08:35
Speaker 1: she turned to her parents and declared, so if I
00:08:41
Speaker 1: make myself some wings out of feathers, I will be
00:08:45
Speaker 1: able to fly. Her parents froze, glanced at each other,
00:08:51
Speaker 1: and then started to laugh. Emilia didn't understand what was
00:08:57
Speaker 1: so funny. Father explained in theory, yes, you could fly
00:09:05
Speaker 1: if you had wings big enough to hold you up.
00:09:08
Speaker 1: But little girls don't fly, Amelia, Only the birds do.
00:09:16
Speaker 1: Amelia frowned with discouragement and folded her arms stubbornly. Why
00:09:23
Speaker 1: do the birds get to fly and I don't, she sulked.
00:09:29
Speaker 1: Her mother laughed and brushed Amelia's cheek affectionately with her hand.
00:09:36
Speaker 1: That's a good question, darling, she comforted her. But it's
00:09:42
Speaker 1: just the way it is. Birds fly in the sky
00:09:46
Speaker 1: and we walk on the ground. It's as simple as that.
00:09:51
Speaker 1: Little girls don't fly. But Emilia refused to accept that answer. Well,
00:10:00
Speaker 1: I'm going to fly one day, she stated, stubbornly. Her
00:10:06
Speaker 1: parents smiled and appeased her, but Amelia could tell that
00:10:10
Speaker 1: they didn't believe her. Despite everybody telling little Amelia that
00:10:16
Speaker 1: she wouldn't ever be able to fly, Amelia was adamant
00:10:21
Speaker 1: in her belief. She knew deep down in her little
00:10:26
Speaker 1: heart as she was born to fly and one day
00:10:31
Speaker 1: soon would soar through the sky with the birds and planes.
00:10:39
Speaker 1: When Amelia was seven years old, she went on holiday
00:10:43
Speaker 1: abroad for the first time. She was so excited to
00:10:48
Speaker 1: set foot on an aeroplane and see how it worked.
00:10:52
Speaker 1: It was all she could talk about for months before
00:10:55
Speaker 1: they were due to travel. When the day finer came,
00:11:01
Speaker 1: Amelia and her parents drove to the airport and checked
00:11:05
Speaker 1: in their suitcases. Then they went through security and waited
00:11:10
Speaker 1: in the airport lounge for their call toboard the plane.
00:11:14
Speaker 1: While her parents read their books and magazines, Amelia stayed
00:11:20
Speaker 1: fixed to the large window with her hands and nose
00:11:24
Speaker 1: pressed against it. She watched the other aeroplanes jet off
00:11:30
Speaker 1: into the sky and soar with ease at super fast speeds.
00:11:36
Speaker 1: She was mesmerized. All of a sudden, her focus was
00:11:43
Speaker 1: broken by her father calling her name, Emilia, come over here.
00:11:49
Speaker 1: For a moment. Her father ushered her back. As Emelia
00:11:55
Speaker 1: walked over to her father, she noticed that he was
00:11:59
Speaker 1: standing next to a tall woman in a navy blue suit.
00:12:04
Speaker 1: She poured a small suit case behind her, and her
00:12:08
Speaker 1: hair was tied back in a slick pony tail. She
00:12:13
Speaker 1: looked very smart and important, Amelia, I have somebody i'd
00:12:20
Speaker 1: like you to meet. Her father beamed excitedly, gesturing to
00:12:25
Speaker 1: the woman by his side. This is Jennifer, and she
00:12:30
Speaker 1: is the pilot of our aeroplane. To day, she will
00:12:33
Speaker 1: be flying us all to Cypress. Amelia gazed at the
00:12:38
Speaker 1: tall woman with intrigue. Hello, Amelia, Jennifer, the pilot greeted
00:12:45
Speaker 1: her warmly. Your father has been telling me that you
00:12:49
Speaker 1: would like to be a pilot and fly planes too
00:12:53
Speaker 1: when you're older. I think it's brilliant that you're so
00:12:57
Speaker 1: interested in flying. Amelia tilted her head to the side
00:13:03
Speaker 1: and inspected the pilot. She wanted to know how this
00:13:08
Speaker 1: woman had achieved her dream and managed to make the
00:13:13
Speaker 1: plane fly. This was a perfect opportunity to pick her brain,
00:13:21
Speaker 1: miss pilot. How do you make your plane fly? Amelia
00:13:26
Speaker 1: questioned her. The pilot was delighted to impart some of
00:13:30
Speaker 1: her wisdom to such a young mind, so she gladly replied, well,
00:13:37
Speaker 1: it's quite complicated, but to put it simply, I sit
00:13:43
Speaker 1: in the front of the plane and drive it using
00:13:45
Speaker 1: a lot of levers, buttons and controls. This was not
00:13:51
Speaker 1: the kind of answer Amelia was looking for. She wanted
00:13:55
Speaker 1: to know exactly how the pilot made the plane lifted
00:14:00
Speaker 1: up above the ground. There must be something more to
00:14:04
Speaker 1: it than pressing a button. No, I don't mean that,
00:14:10
Speaker 1: Amelia tried to reiterate, I mean how does the aeroplane
00:14:16
Speaker 1: float off the ground? What makes it fly? The pilot
00:14:22
Speaker 1: scratched her head and thought about how best to answer.
00:14:27
Speaker 1: She racked her brain for a few moments and then
00:14:31
Speaker 1: eventually answered, well, technically a plane flies by utilizing aerodynamic forces.
00:14:40
Speaker 1: But I'll keep it simple for you. The engines create
00:14:45
Speaker 1: a lot of force that pushes the plane up into
00:14:48
Speaker 1: the sky, and there are the wings, of course, which
00:14:53
Speaker 1: are very important to keep us up in the air.
00:14:57
Speaker 1: But really it all comes down to the magic of science.
00:15:04
Speaker 1: Emilia couldn't quite wrap her seven year old brain around
00:15:08
Speaker 1: the concept of aerodynamics and forces, so she sighed and replied,
00:15:16
Speaker 1: that sounds a little bit complicated. I think I will
00:15:20
Speaker 1: find another way. And with that, Emilia walked away and
00:15:27
Speaker 1: back over to the window to watch the aeroplanes outside,
00:15:31
Speaker 1: leaving a perplexed pilot and sheepish father in her wake.
00:15:38
Speaker 1: Weeks later, Emilia was enjoying a sunny Saturday in the garden.
00:15:44
Speaker 1: It was a beautiful day. The sky was bright blue
00:15:49
Speaker 1: and there wasn't a cloud in sight. Bees were buzzing
00:15:54
Speaker 1: around the flowers in the garden, and birds and squirrels
00:15:58
Speaker 1: happily cheap away in the trees. Emilia lay down on
00:16:04
Speaker 1: the grass and sighed, it would be a perfect day
00:16:08
Speaker 1: to fly. Amelia began daydreaming about soaring through the sky
00:16:16
Speaker 1: on her own. She imagined the way that the wind
00:16:21
Speaker 1: would feel against her face and the way her hair
00:16:24
Speaker 1: would blow out behind her as she moved. She envisioned
00:16:29
Speaker 1: the birds flapping alongside her. She would wave to the
00:16:34
Speaker 1: birds and they would chirt back in greeting. Everybody on
00:16:40
Speaker 1: the ground below would be amazed by Amelia's incredible flying abilities,
00:16:46
Speaker 1: and they would all be extremely jealous. That's when Amelia decided,
00:16:54
Speaker 1: no more waiting around. Now was the time to prove
00:17:00
Speaker 1: everybody wrong. To day would be the day that she
00:17:07
Speaker 1: finally flew. Emilia sat upright and looked around her for inspiration.
00:17:16
Speaker 1: So what had she learned so far that could help
00:17:19
Speaker 1: her learn to fly well? The birds flew using their
00:17:25
Speaker 1: feathery wings, the boy from the story flew thanks to
00:17:29
Speaker 1: a combination of happy thoughts and pixie dust, and pilots
00:17:35
Speaker 1: flew planes using powerful engines and controlled them with buttons
00:17:40
Speaker 1: and levers. If Amilia put all of these things together,
00:17:47
Speaker 1: perhaps she would have a great chance of being able
00:17:51
Speaker 1: to fly too. So Amelia set to work. She needed
00:17:57
Speaker 1: to start with a base. She needed something to attach
00:18:02
Speaker 1: the wings to. She couldn't stick feathers onto her arms
00:18:06
Speaker 1: they would just fall off, so she would need something
00:18:11
Speaker 1: that she could easily glue feathers onto. She rummaged around
00:18:17
Speaker 1: in the garden shed and found an old plastic card
00:18:21
Speaker 1: with wheels that her father used to pull her around
00:18:24
Speaker 1: on when she was smaller. That would be perfect for
00:18:28
Speaker 1: the base. Next, she needed to put together the wings.
00:18:36
Speaker 1: Up in the tree in the corner of the garden
00:18:39
Speaker 1: a nest of birds lived, so surely there would be
00:18:43
Speaker 1: plenty of feathers floating around there. Emilia inspected the ground
00:18:48
Speaker 1: around the base of the tree and managed to collect
00:18:52
Speaker 1: together several feathers, but there were nowhere near enough feathers
00:18:57
Speaker 1: to create wings big enough for herself. Amelia gazed up
00:19:03
Speaker 1: into the tree and looked at the family of birds
00:19:07
Speaker 1: perched around their nest, staring down at her. But if
00:19:14
Speaker 1: you have any extra feathers lying around, I would really
00:19:19
Speaker 1: appreciate them right now, Amelia begged the feathered beings. Then,
00:19:26
Speaker 1: as if they had understood her every word, the birds
00:19:31
Speaker 1: flew off in all directions, and within a couple of
00:19:35
Speaker 1: minutes they returned to Emilia's side with hundreds of feathers
00:19:40
Speaker 1: in their beaks. Amelia gasped with delight and thanked the
00:19:47
Speaker 1: birds for their help and generosity. Now she had to
00:19:52
Speaker 1: put together the wings for herself. Amelia found two planks
00:19:58
Speaker 1: of wood left by the side of the garden shed
00:20:02
Speaker 1: and superglued them to the sides of the plastic cart
00:20:06
Speaker 1: that formed the base. Then, one by one she superglued
00:20:12
Speaker 1: the light, fluffy feathers to the wooden planks. It took
00:20:17
Speaker 1: a long time and a lot of patience, but by
00:20:21
Speaker 1: the time Amelia had glued on the last feather, she
00:20:25
Speaker 1: had a full pair of multicolored wings. Amilia stood back
00:20:32
Speaker 1: to admire her handiwork, and she was pleasantly impressed with herself.
00:20:39
Speaker 1: It looked just like a mini aeroplane, albeit a rather
00:20:44
Speaker 1: bird like one. There were just a few things left
00:20:49
Speaker 1: to do. Amelia could use the handlebar of the cart
00:20:54
Speaker 1: as the lever and controls, so that was no problem,
00:20:59
Speaker 1: But she she had the small problem of where to
00:21:02
Speaker 1: acquire pixie dust from. Amelia had no idea where pixies live,
00:21:10
Speaker 1: and even if she did, they might not give their
00:21:13
Speaker 1: magical dust to her. But luckily for Emilia, she had
00:21:20
Speaker 1: the next best thing. Emilia dashed into the house, rifled
00:21:26
Speaker 1: through her arts and crafts box, and then raced back
00:21:30
Speaker 1: out to the garden with a pot of gold glitter
00:21:33
Speaker 1: in her hand. Emilia stood next to the mini aeroplane
00:21:39
Speaker 1: and sprinkled the gold dust all over it. By the
00:21:44
Speaker 1: time she had emptied out the last smidge of glitter,
00:21:48
Speaker 1: her aeroplane was sparkling majestically. Emilia's heart fluttered with excitement.
00:21:57
Speaker 1: She was sure this was going to work. Now there
00:22:02
Speaker 1: was just one thing left to do. She fastened her
00:22:06
Speaker 1: red bicycle helmet onto her head and placed a pair
00:22:10
Speaker 1: of blue swimming goggles over her eyes. Before climbing into
00:22:15
Speaker 1: the feathery, glittery airplane, Amelia closed her eyes and took
00:22:22
Speaker 1: a deep breath. The final thing she needed to do
00:22:28
Speaker 1: was think of happy thoughts. Emilia thought of all the
00:22:34
Speaker 1: things that made her happy. Her parents, her grandparents, her
00:22:41
Speaker 1: cousins that she played with every weekend, her funny classmates,
00:22:47
Speaker 1: and her kind teacher. She loved playing football and learning
00:22:52
Speaker 1: the recorder. Her favorite book was Winnie the Pooh, and
00:22:57
Speaker 1: she adored being read a story before bed every night.
00:23:02
Speaker 1: She also thought about her favorite dinner of sausages and chips,
00:23:07
Speaker 1: and her favorite ice cream flavor, which was mint chock chip.
00:23:12
Speaker 1: Not to mention, she thought about how happy her pet
00:23:16
Speaker 1: guinea pig Toddles made her when she fed him and
00:23:19
Speaker 1: watched him run around his hutch in the garden. Amelia
00:23:25
Speaker 1: thought about all of the things that made her happy,
00:23:29
Speaker 1: and she automatically began to smile. As she thought about
00:23:35
Speaker 1: all of the happy and wonderful things in her life,
00:23:40
Speaker 1: she started to feel lighter and lighter. She felt the
00:23:46
Speaker 1: gentle breeze brush against her face, and she felt fresh
00:23:51
Speaker 1: and joyful. After a few moments, Amelia started to notice
00:23:58
Speaker 1: that something felt different. She slowly opened her eyes and
00:24:05
Speaker 1: couldn't believe what she saw. Her feathery, glittery airplane was
00:24:12
Speaker 1: no longer on the ground, but it was floating high
00:24:17
Speaker 1: up in the air. The wings were flapping gently, rising
00:24:24
Speaker 1: her up higher and higher with every beat. In fact,
00:24:30
Speaker 1: she had risen so high up into the sky that
00:24:35
Speaker 1: when she looked down, her house now looked like a
00:24:38
Speaker 1: little doll's house in comparison. I did it, Amelia declared,
00:24:46
Speaker 1: with exultation. I'm flying. Amelia tugged on the handlebar and
00:24:54
Speaker 1: her magical plane shot off ahead at full speed. She
00:24:59
Speaker 1: flew over the tops of houses and gardens, and the
00:25:04
Speaker 1: birds from the tree followed behind. She was flying, just
00:25:09
Speaker 1: like she had always imagined she would. Amelia remembered all
00:25:16
Speaker 1: of the people who had told her that little girls
00:25:19
Speaker 1: don't fly over the years, but she hadn't listened. She
00:25:26
Speaker 1: had believed so strongly that she could achieve her dream
00:25:31
Speaker 1: that she hadn't let anybody put her off her goal.
00:25:35
Speaker 1: And now here she was flying through the air. Emilia
00:25:42
Speaker 1: was the little girl who had learnt to fly. As
00:25:48
Speaker 1: Amelia soared through the sky, she listened to the people
00:25:53
Speaker 1: down below cry out in awe at the flying girl
00:25:58
Speaker 1: in the sky. She looked down at the earth, and
00:26:02
Speaker 1: everyone looked as tiny as mice. From up here, the
00:26:07
Speaker 1: roofs of the houses were far below, and she could
00:26:12
Speaker 1: see the land ahead spreading for miles and miles. Amelia
00:26:20
Speaker 1: flew around for hours. She swept across fields and darted
00:26:26
Speaker 1: in and out of the trees of forests. She glided
00:26:31
Speaker 1: above oceans, and she floated above cities and villages alike.
00:26:38
Speaker 1: Ameilia could fly anywhere she wanted for as long as
00:26:43
Speaker 1: she wanted, and she wanted to fly forever. She never
00:26:49
Speaker 1: wanted to come back down Alas. As night drew close,
00:26:56
Speaker 1: Amelia started to grow tired. As the sun started to
00:27:01
Speaker 1: shrink on the horizon and the clouds started to grow
00:27:06
Speaker 1: across the sleepy sky. The birds were retreating to their beds,
00:27:13
Speaker 1: and the air was growing cold. Amilia was ready to
00:27:18
Speaker 1: return home and returned to the warmth of her house
00:27:23
Speaker 1: in time for bed. Amelia began to navigate her way
00:27:29
Speaker 1: home once her back garden was in sight once more.
00:27:34
Speaker 1: She brought the wings in closer to the body of
00:27:37
Speaker 1: her magical plane and pointed the front of the plane
00:27:41
Speaker 1: downwards towards the ground. Gracefully, she landed her magical plane
00:27:48
Speaker 1: down on the grass in the middle of the garden
00:27:52
Speaker 1: and climbed out. Amelia's mother and father came rushing out
00:27:58
Speaker 1: at the back door of the house and up to Amelia.
00:28:02
Speaker 1: Her mother pulled her into a tight hug, and her
00:28:06
Speaker 1: father inspected the plane. Where on earth have you been,
00:28:12
Speaker 1: her mother demanded, holding her close. I have been flying
00:28:18
Speaker 1: all over the world in my plane, Amelia announced proudly.
00:28:25
Speaker 1: I told you I would learn to fly. Her mother
00:28:30
Speaker 1: and father looked at the makeshift Minnie aeroplane sitting on
00:28:35
Speaker 1: the grass in the garden. They took in its large
00:28:40
Speaker 1: tattered wings made out of bird feathers, and the way
00:28:44
Speaker 1: that it glistened with the remnants of a pot of glitter. Amelia,
00:28:51
Speaker 1: how many times must we tell you little girls don't fly?
00:28:57
Speaker 1: Her mother sighed, only grateful to find her daughter back
00:29:02
Speaker 1: home safe and sound. Yes, they do, Amelia cried. Her
00:29:09
Speaker 1: mother and father must have missed her skyward adventures. Her
00:29:14
Speaker 1: mother started to head back inside the house, but Amilia's
00:29:20
Speaker 1: father lingered a little longer, gazing at the feathery, glittery plane.
00:29:27
Speaker 1: Do you believe me? Daddy, Amelia whispered, I flew, I
00:29:33
Speaker 1: really did. Amelia's father knelt down beside her and placed
00:29:40
Speaker 1: his arm around her shoulders. I always knew you could
00:29:46
Speaker 1: do it, he whispered to her, squeezing her arm gently.
00:29:53
Speaker 1: Amelia's eyes grew wide and a large smile spread across
00:29:58
Speaker 1: her face. Her father did believe her. You may have
00:30:04
Speaker 1: even seen her. Ameilia threw her arms around him and
00:30:10
Speaker 1: gave him a big hug. I told you, I told you,
00:30:17
Speaker 1: she squeaked quietly. Ameilia and her father parked the plain
00:30:25
Speaker 1: under the tree in the corner of the garden and
00:30:29
Speaker 1: headed inside the house. Amilia was hungry after a day
00:30:34
Speaker 1: of learning to fly for the first time, and she
00:30:39
Speaker 1: knew that she would need to gather her strength so
00:30:44
Speaker 1: that she was ready for another busy day of flying
00:30:49
Speaker 1: around the world to morrow.
